The Alton Towers Dungeon

I'm guessing that Merlin are classing anything that is an upcharge as a second gate. So Extraordinary Golf, The Waterpark, Treetops (whe it was open) and now the Dungeons.

How long before they charge us extra to even join the main queue for the new ride in a SW year? It won't be long. They'd charge you for the Staffordshire air if they could.

Sadly the ''sheeple' will still pay it and validate their greed.

Wonder how much it will cost? Costs about £16 minimum for an adult to get in most dungeons. Surely people won't fork out that on top of entrance prices? Then again I didn't think people would pay £50+ for fastrack and they do and in their droves. Must be some magic money tree I'm not aware of.

Not much different to people paying £28 each for scare mazes.

I'm sure The Dungeons being a second-gate attraction won't be a problem, for its first season at least...
 
Merlin have took the contents of people's pockets for years, masters of their art in fact. Now, quite clearly someone has finally hit a new level of crackers within Merlin Land, especially when judging it by the logic behind this installation.

I wonder if this means the scare maze part of the attraction (if any) will actually take people's pockets outright, rather than just the contents like we all know too well. As they can conveniently use the excuse that removing people's pockets from their clothing was part of the 'experience'.

Expect the majority of the attractions budget to be spent on an ill thought out machine that quickly, quietly and efficiently removes pockets from clothing. Like the tills, it will never break down.

A "second gate" Dungeons attraction using the Charlie infrastructure... Jesus...

They're so damn lucky that people who give a shit have refurbed most of the best remaining rides and added a great new one, or this place would be on the fast track (no pun intended) to becoming the next Chessington
 
Interested to see if annual pass holders are entitled to a free visit (a la Warwick Castle)... certainly won't be bothering with this if not.
 
If it's about £6 per person they'd only need about 20 people per hour to break even? When you think of it like that then it sort of makes sense, even if it makes the park even more of a sell out.

MAP holders will get in to it for free, however I do not know if this is unlimted, once per visit or once per season.

The difference with mazes for me is that they are pop-up, and when they are available you get an extra 5 hours in park, meaning the 2 hours it takes to do the mazes doesn't seem like a significant chunk out of your day.

By being pop-up demand is concentrated into the 2 weeks availability, meaning they are fairly busy.

A dungeon will take precious time out of a busy day, and the only way I'll consider 'second gate' is if I have enough time to do all the rides I want to do first. So the only way I'll be entering this dungeon is if the longest queue all day is 20 minutes. If this season is anything to go by that is unlikely.
 
I reckon it will do well for a couple of years until the next big CAPEX project comes along, Not, perhaps, with AMP holders who have done dungeons before - but all of those more occassional visitors, like the ones who came back to try Wickerman this year.
 
I personally think that this will pan out similar to how The Walking Dead: The Ride at Thorpe Park has panned out in that it will be a stunning attraction that will really surprise people when it opens next year!

As for the ride's longevity, The Castle Dungeon is still going strong at Warwick Castle, so I don't personally see why the Alton Towers Dungeon won't have a long and prosperous lifespan at Alton Towers! I personally reckon the park will also add new scenes every couple of years to keep the ride fresh in people's minds, as Warwick have done with theirs.

This attraction may not be my type of thing, but I personally think that those who do like scare attractions will really enjoy this attraction!
