Too be quite honest... i wouldn't really be bothered if the Flume got demolished or sold. It doesn't do anything for me, too be honest the duck hardly works. So whats the point it being there if it isn't any good. Im not trying too say its completely rubbish because its not. Maybe if they get rid of it, towers could put a junior boomerang there or something. Something that won't be a problem for height limits.

They wouldn't miss the opportunity to use the existing lake for some kind of element on a new coaster if one were to be built there. At least, I would hope they wouldn't...

Does anyone know why Alton haven't given much attention to the flume over the passed few years? It is pretty obvious that it is in need of a refurbishment or a new water ride entirely.

I guess they dont really want to spend money on it just yet as it is still popular, but i dont see why they just cant make it a tad bit more eye catching, or a nice refurbishment to make sure it doesnt get out of date.

Towers give a lot of attention to the flume, there are future development plans for the ride, but it's in the most awkward place it could be, the ride is also actually over tree top height. The ride has many technical problems and we try our best to resolve them, it's a very old ride and we want to replace it, but we just can't at the moment and it's so popular why do we need to?

My idea would be to add tunnels so it's all a dark ride, and if enough room then it could go into rooms, and in the front, where the lake is, the ride could drop outside and have a front facade to hide all the tunnels behind it, just like Valhalla's facade does. It could be a frontage that looks like abandoned buildings stuck together like Splash Landings, and have water squirting out of the holes in the buildings as if a lot of water is pressing on the buildings, and the drop could leave through a hole in the building with a lot of water flowing down it, also it could be themed around pirates and the boats could be themed as pirate ships like Battle Galleons, but without the mast and a five/four in a row boat

Whilst, evidently, it manages to pull in a crowd, it isn't a ride that I feel passionate about, in the slightest.

I would be much happier with a completely new ride, water based, that doesn't follow the same, old Flume course. However, using the existing tunnels as part of the new ride would, of course, be standard.

Likely story? No. The Flume is popular now, and therefor, in Merlins mind, doesn't need changing, fixing, painting, sprucing up, & most certainly not replacing!

If the ride was in an easier position with no trees around and no rules implanted around everything, then it'd be very likely the ride would be replaced with something bigger, because all that ride does is cause problems for the park, every day that ride breaks down! On some occasions an evacuation is needed

It surely cant have much longest left in it, the whole ride just looks horrible and old now. But I cant see when they will do anything, 2013 is SW7 and 2014 is rumoured to be storybook land/adventure land, so maybe 2015? Who knows, but the longer they leave it the worse it will look and more it will cost to refurbish.

Not that I want to see The Flume leave the park, but I really can't see another make over/refurb happening.

If Merlin had any sense they would invest in a more up to date water ride to replace it.

The area the log flume covers is huge, and really has the potential for something large and groundbreaking.

I know something on the scale of Journey To Atlantis, Splash Mountain or Tutuki Splash is out of the question/budget, but I think within the next 5-8 years we should see something happen to that area?

Stick with the pirate theme, Mutiny Bay has a lot of potential, and with the success of the POTC films they may as well make some money out of it.

I'm sure this has all been heard before but it's been on my mind.

See now this is something I really don't agree with.

Since when did Alton Towers follow the crowd? The last thing we need is yet another pirate log flume, not to mention the park already has a water ride with that theme.

With a replacement water ride they need to be more creative with both the theme and the hardware itself.

It's got quite a large footprint hasn't it? Maybe the park are waiting until it's pretty much finished and then they may be able to look at a couple of rides in its place (flat ride included probably). Who knows?

I'm not sure how big the flume site is, but I could see a smaller, yet good, and modern flume ride in its place, as well as a good family flat ride to suit a similar theme. But I can't see it any time soon, sadly.

The park will run the Flume into the ground if you ask me. It'll keep going until the day something major goes wrong on it and can't be easily repaired

It still pulls a good queue on very hot days, and is reasonably popular with the guests. While it's still doing both of those and is operational I doubt it'll go anywhere. The nature of the site means that a replacement ride in its place will probably be an expensive project, and a design challenge, as environmental impact will need to be a bare minimum.

While it's doing its job I see no harm in leaving it. Even if it is looking a little worse for wear

I completely agree! The flume is a good ride and is no doubt popular so my bet is it will be left until something breaks and cannot be fixed. However I would rather like to see a big ,modern flume take its place. For now all the flume needs is some TLC. Just make it look better!

Still think scrap it, mack mega coaster following the winding layout in the forest (obviously with hills and inversions) so no more tree felling is required. Plus a section over the lake and bare area that the station and queue stands now.

Decently long ride. Decent ride type, theme it to pirates and voila a nice decent large family thrill ride that's also popular with teen thrill riders.

Personally i dont think they will get rid .. they have enough 'Thrill Rides' in the park and since it was made ducks and baths it automatically became a kids ride. Its still decent for what it is. Maybe a little re-paint and a decent clean down but other than that it does what it says on the tin. It would be nice too have a MASSIVE drop with a 16 seater boat perhaps but iv gotta say, i love hearing my 2 and 5 year olds scream down that final drop. I think they'd be mortified if they saw a huge drop. You should see there faces when they walk past oblivion.

Maybe incorporate another coaster that weaves around the flume track (if theres room) or build more around it. I love the idea of mingling it in with the whole Galleon theme. Change it too pirate boats or something.

All in all i say keep it going till it physically cannot run any longer. Its great for the kids.

A new system would be nice to be honest. Keep the original ride layout, maybe add a few changes here and there or something but it's dated. The ride drags in my opinion.

I agree with a few people on here, Alton will probably run The Flume until something major comes up which would be costly or hard to fix maybe. I really like The Flume, I find the music peaceful, the ride peaceful, and generally a nice ride to go on if you want a break from the likes of Nemesis, Air & the other bigger attractions. I like it more than the rapids, and personally The Flume is still my favourite log flume out of all i've had chance to ride in Europe. Maybe after The Flume retires, a new Mack or Intamin water ride will replace it? I'd hate it if they replaced it with a coaster, because then were down to 2 water rides, which quite frankly to me aren't fantastic (Congo River Rapids & Battle G).

I do hope they maybe repaint the ride in a few years time, or maybe change some things on it and give the boats & edges of the run a bit of a clean, but if there running it to the ground or waiting for the ride to have sort of failure before they remove it, why would they bother trying to spruce it up? Who knows what the'll do with it, fingers crossed they keep it a bit longer and give it a spruce up! Only time will tell I suppose.
