Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Re: Thorpe Park

Well, erm, hmmmm! Angry Birds is hardly an inspiring IP for a theme park in my opinion. Surely they could have found a better family IP? I just can't see Angry Birds as an IP to change people's perceptions on the park. And is Angry Birds as popular as it once was? I rarely see people playing it these days. But then if they are bringing out an Angry Birds film in 2016 I guess it must still be popular (god knows how a film about it will actually work though).

And dodgems? Seriously, that is poor. Once again it's hardly inspiring. I love dodgems, they are great fun, but they are not a suitable addition for a major theme park. It's almost laughable.

Then I have no idea how they are going to do this "themed area" when there aren't really any areas at such at Thorpe. I can see there being clashes.

:)

Re: Thorpe Park

Slightly off topic, but I can't believe they're bringing out a film in 2016...The thing is about birds being thrown at pigs!

Re: Thorpe Park

Oh please don't say they are going to market the 4D cinema as a worlds first, that is just cringe worthy. I don't see EP marketing their new attraction as the worlds first Arthur themed suspended power coaster. Or Disney as worlds first Ratatouille trackless dark ride.

:)

"Wow I can't wait for this!" - no one.

While it isn't the most exciting news I think these attractions are great news for Thorpe. They are re-using the 4D theatre that has sat dark for years, providing a much needed indoor attraction. dodgems are always good fun for everyone, I don't know anyone that doesn't enjoy hitting into a friend in a bumper car. Also with Pirates 4D gone the Detonator theme doesn't really work at the moment anyway.

This re-theme may not bring in huge numbers of new guests but will be good for those that do and any announcement of new attractions helps the park to advertise alongside the 2for1 vouchers.

Re: Thorpe Park

These moves are truly desperate.

Thorpe Park is desperate.

The nail has been hit on the head. This reaks of desperation.

I would say the call for more family friendly rides is an idea for Thorpe since it has struggled with the thrill only market (cos no-one saw that coming)...

The IP attachment is the main issue... Especially as they still call themselves the "THRILL CAPITAL!"...

Re: Thorpe Park

To be fair Alton Towers are marketing CBeebies Land as a "world's first" - seems to be a Merlin thing. *cringe* :p

Re: Thorpe Park

I'd forgotten that everything that Merlin do has to be a worlds first and marketed as such rather than marketed based on its own merits.

:)

Uhh, well, uhh, umm, I can't say I was expecting it. Uhh, um why is this happening? Am I dreaming? Is Thorpe Park dreaming? I need to lay down.

Just corrected that for you! ;)

That's another utterly stupid thing. They were always going to start calling the place a resort, even thouugh it is a million miles from being a resort. But having Thorpe Park in capitals still then Resort in standard text, it just looks ridiculous.

:)

Sighs. Just when you thought it could not get any worse.

There is nothing wrong with having Thrope, CWOA, and Legoland all target different age ranges, with a small cross over, but this latest change of direction, seems to be a clear attempt to target guests who might of thought about visiting CWOA instead.

The worst thing is, if this is successful, and pulls in a big crowd, what incentive is there for Merlin to spend big on Coaster like the Swarm :(

Re: Thorpe Park

Does anyone want me to rename the topic title to "Thorpe Park resort" or just keep it as Thorpe Park? I suppose a lot of you want the latter.

I have to say I agree with this, bumpers aren't ideal admittedly for the Theme Park, but they do have a certain charm about them which I love, that adds some atmosphere somehow. Also yes getting an indoor attraction up and running again is also good.

I do agree with most though, that it is a bit unimaginative and certainly doesn't stand out. Why have a brand that other parks have got? I presume they knew ;D

Re: Thorpe Park

Drayton Manor and Blackpool Pleasure Beach are closer to being resorts than Thorpe Park. Both have proper hotels, both have mini golf and the Pleasure Beach has the other smaller attractions with it (Ripleys, Pasaje del Terror, arcades, the Casino building and the Globe Theatre).

Neither of those parks pretend they're resorts.

Now that, particularly of Blackpool, is a very salient point mate!

I had not even discussed the THORPE PARK Resort thing. I can't without laughing, literally. It genuinely actually makes me chuckle every time I read it.

Frankly embarrassing.
