Thorpe Park: General Discussion

That is ridiculous. £15 on the gate! Well i know I wont be going anymore! I think you can take your car into whipsnade zoo for close to that! What do you get for £15? Some crappy gravel carpark and an outdated set of 80s tile toilets that stink? And your all right about events, they used to be additions thst were fun and random. I remember the first few firework nights when Tussards took over... They were cool and fun, gosh how far the park has fallen. (Same for alton too). Ive not been back to chessington for over a decade but i dont think id want too. Its crazy to think how far parks like disney must have come in that period and how far back merlin parks have gone.

But you can get there on public transport, so it's no problem right...?

Looks like they are trying to drive people online to purchase parking, probably because there is a cost saving there.

They claim it's for traffic management reason's which I can see being an actual thing.

Traffic management? How is traffic managed differently because of this? The only thing I can think of is that a significant number of people drove to the barriers without having paid, causing delays at the barriers. The hope may be that more people will pre-book their parking so this is less of a problem!?

Apparently enough people don't book in advance that it can be a problem exiting sometimes

Honestly, £15 to park at Thorpe is honestly ridiculous. At this rate it will be more expensive to park here than Disney World by summer!

It’s crazy to think that 9 years ago it was actually free to park there and has essentially gone up at least a quid every year. Despite that, little to no expense appears to have been spent on improving the car park. Not to mention they probably still lack proper CCTV.

Whilst they do have the Thorpe buses, they always cram them upto bursting point 95% of the time.

Their parking and transport situation really needs to be sorted, but I am not holding my breath!

Thats very true but the cost is beyond a reasonable amount in my opinion. If parking the whole day at my nearest ncp is about £11. For the same amount of hours. It also has a park mark certificate, is looked after very well. Public transport options are more generous. And the shopping center it is locates within has excellent toilet facilities.

£15 is rather alot of a carpark in a gravel pothole field.

The idea behind the extortionate pay at barrier price is indeed because it causes delays (faff of paying takes a long time). Few car parks offer a pay-at-barrier service; theme parks tend to do it because it's more hassle having cars blocking a lane than in other car parks.

The higher the price, the less people who will do it, and instead buy a ticket at a kiosk (which is less than £15) or better, buy online.

I've no problem with £15 tbh. It either ultimately means a smoother exit from the park, or more money made for the park from idiots.

The problem I have is the cheapest price being £8. That should be the bigger problem - if you're savvy, it costs £8 to be poorly parked on some gravel. That's the rip off.

In the highly unlikely event that we visit TP this year, I shall take in the car £15 of one pence coins and gladly throw them on the ground for someone to collect and count before letting me out.
That would be called being an absolute are** to staff.

The attitude of the customer often is reflected in the staff member...

Amount of times guests would storm up whinging about something and wonder why they didn't get anywhere when all they needed was a polite tone of voice and treating the staff like humans...

Enthusiasts can be the absolute worst when visiting parks... Not the poor parking attendants fault the price is an utter rip off after all...

I'm sure some can, however I can assure you that I was very polite when I registered my complaint. I even request to speak to a member of management, however none were available (a bit like the rides on one particular visit)

Maybe if the staff on the barriers don't like my method of payment, the management might be a bit quicker to respond on them than they were to my request for them to attend.

Either way, doesn't excuse you going out of your way to be a jerk to staff.
I have no reason to be jerks to staff, neither do you.

It's nothing personal towards the member of staff, it's more against the principal.

That park was built to provide fun and entertainment, it's fallen well short on multiple occasions recently, and frankly, tipping a bucket of coins from a car window sounds like it would have been the highlight of the visit based on my last one at least.

Sounds like you just not visiting is best for you and staff then.

Unless this member of staff is a snowflake, I really can't see them having a melt down about it. They will probably call me a name or two and let me out, whilst muttering to the colleges. I am talking about paying a fee in a slightly inconvenience way, not launching a physical attack on them.
