Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Re: Thorpe Park

Points out the issue we'll have with near misses.

Would be okay if it was a gimmicky coaster, not thorpes first proper go at immersion in a decade. Or if the back seats were the best on them.

Gah, thorpe you fail.

Re: Thorpe Park

As said I have no real issue with them turning the rows backwards, except the fact Thorpes crappy operations won't manage the queue. My issue is with Thorpe who just seem to fall to pieces with any interesting investment if it isn't a coaster.

Their total non-coaster investment recently has consisted of: bringing back an old kiddy coaster, adding a short-lived Scaremaze and a second hand dinghy ride....

Woopy

Here's a shot of them filming for a 2013 advert, from Facebook:

Re: Thorpe Park

Nice! It seems like this year they'll be trying a different stance for marketing the ride.

I loved the CG ones from last year, but I'm not sure they were so great at gaining attention. :-\

Re: Thorpe Park

That looks like an actual ride seat. Does the ride have a test seat out front, and if so, is it that?

It does have a test seat out front. Although I'm not to sure if that's it in the advert, could be could be not.

Thorpe Park

Green screen? That's going to look shockingly cheesy.

Re: Thorpe Park

A large portion of the original advert from last season was green screen/CGI, and people loved that, so I don't think this should be any worse!

Also, if you look at the image from the filming of the advert, the guy is wearing the exact same clothes as the kid in last years add! Sooo, at least Thorpe are being consistent :p Or depending on how you look at it, The Swarm may just have a thing for teenage boys in grey hoodie's, skinny jeans and black converse ;)

Anyway, my view on this, I don't have any objection to it, as it brings a new experience to both the ride and the park. However I do feel it is a bit of a cheap investment in a non major year, fingers crossed the wide rumored X re-work still goes ahead, then it's just about acceptable! :)

My only major niggle with it, is why the hell is a massive bloodthirsty alien, flying backwards?!

... Oh and the likely shocking throughput!! Max of about 320pph! That's going to be fun to wait in, after the already no doubt large main queue! ;)

Re: Thorpe Park

I could be wrong but I don't think the idea is that the alien is flying backwards, instead it's that you've been picked up by the Swarm and just happen to be facing backwards.

That's why I've put off modifying the RCT version just yet as I want to see if they've done a proper job of flipping the seats around or just got lazy and turned the whole thing, bodywork included.

Re: Thorpe Park

Not that I see a point in doing this, but if they are going to do it why not turn half the train backwards and keep the front half forward. How cool would that look coming down the first drop with half facing one way, and the other half face the other.

Personally the queue will get clogged up because of people wanting to go on the backwards facing seats which is why it would of been better to turn the train half and half. If people see half the train forward and half the train backwards there would be less emphasis on the backward seat and it would look better.

Although, I don't see why they have done this to a ride that is only a year old when there are other rides that are sorely lacking love. Also the back seats were the best! :(

Re: Thorpe Park

It will be interesting how they sort the queue line out for this. Last year the front row queue didnt work what so ever, and by mid season they kept the front row queue closed and when you got the to station you just queued up for it there, which didnt make much difference as that was the far end of the station, however if you did that for the back row you would end up blocking most of the station.

I think they will have to alter the queue somehow for the ride, which probably wouldnt be too hard to do as it does have a massive queue line which could be split somehow. The only issue is the ride station, as there simply isnt much room in it to alter compared to standard ride stations.

Re: Thorpe Park

I imagine they'll try and do what the front row queue system did. Queue there, get a token etc.

It'll probably work as unsuccessfully as front row, but it's the only thing they can try to do I think!

Re: Thorpe Park

I expect the station will look something like this for 2013:

The front row queue I've added might be a little too claustrophobic so I wouldn't complain if that doesn't happen but the back rows will need their own queue. Changing any of the rest of the queue seems pointless though, I'd far rather the split occur inside the station otherwise the queue would be horribly slow for any seat.

Re: Thorpe Park

What's the betting that if they do that, they trash the wonderful themed fencing in the station and replace it with scafolding?

Re: Thorpe Park

I bet they make the Front Row queue the Back Row queue. And those complaining about the throughput and wait, well, they are people that are now not queuing for the front which is my favourite place on Swarm ;D

As someone else said (apologies) - I do hope they only switched the seats around, and not the actual train section! It is meant as I believe, to represent something swooping picking you up and dragging you around a decimated town. That actually works well having seats multiple ways - it adds to the theme, not detracts from it.

Give it a chance guys, you may absolutely love it - if you hate it as a ride experience, fine, I just hope they only did this backwards business with one train though. To take both back sets of seats out would be bizarre - yes throughput will be affected, but if you want that unique back seat experiences, that's what you do. To reverse both though?

Mind you the more I consider that operationally? What a nightmare, and at THORPE of all places...

Re: Thorpe Park

As I said on Facebook the other day! I reckon the queue in the station will stay the same, with the same queue being used for the front row!

I then think a similar system with the little cards will be put into operation for the backwards seats, and you will queue for this, in the extension behind the station that is accessed via the stairs through the broken tower! I just don't feel there will be enough room for the demand within the current front row queue or using a new queue in the station.

Thorpe Park

The whole back, that would take ages.
Plus the way the queueline is designed is would be hard to have 4 entrances to the batching area.

Fastrack, front row, main queue and back row, bit too much for a batcher, plus it would cause quite a bit of hastle and there won't be enough main queue for the swarm for busy days.
