Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Rode Quantum during my recent visit and regret doing so as it was much slower, shorter and less intense than I remember it being when I rode it 9 years ago. Apparently it's on that slow cycle to prolong its lifespan, like Samurai. I do regret not riding the latter on the other hand though. Could we see one or both being replaced in the near future?

Also, Shaun mentioned in his recent vlog that he thinks an Intamin Gyroswing (perhaps with lap bars like Loke at Liseberg) would be a good replacement for Saw Alive on its respective site. I actually think that is a really good idea. Would enable them to retire Vortex (essentially what Liseberg did, ironically)and add something new on that site too.
I would love a Loke in the UK. The one at liseberg is really good. Would be great at towers but it’s massive so not sure it would work there, but Thorpe could definitely get away with it.

I think one near to Swarm with near misses of the ride would be good.

Maelstrom at Drayton Manor?

Anyone else feel like Thorpe would have more commercial and attendence success with B&M coaster that was on the cards, I feel like it would have gone down very well considering how little air time based coasters we have and how successful they are elsewhere.

I feel like exodus is going to look very intimidating and some of the general public will be put off simply just how high the inversions are.

Not saying I think it's going to flop, I think it'll go down well and I'm glad we got the mack design, I think a lot of the inversions look insane, I do think they should have added some air time into the end even if it was just 2 or 3 hills somewhere I really think it would of made a hell of a difference.

Ultimately though it doesn't matter what the enthusiasts think or say especially before the ride is even open, the most important part is it gets the guests flocking through those turnstiles.

I’m not sure it would really make a lot of difference, to be honest. Both share the same basic USP (UK’s tallest coaster), so whether it has inversions or solely focuses on airtime is probably a bit immaterial to the average visitor.

I do think a B&M Hyper Coaster would have filled more of a void at Thorpe, as they currently lack a non-inverting, rerideable thrill coaster of that vein, whereas Exodus will be a sit-down looping coaster like most of their other rides.

However, I’m not sure that the average visitor will care about that too much, as Exodus is ultimately still a big tall ride.

Was at Thorpe park today, we don't come here very frequently as we all love towers and it's much easier to get to but what the hell is up with the operations?!

Towers has military operations where they seem to get the trains out as quickly as possible whereas at Thorpe Swarm was around a train every 3-6 minutes, vortex was 5+ minutes after the end of every cycle.

Inferno had very good operations however there was quite a lot of travelers on park today and they were scrapping and kept trying to pull eachother off the ride and were refusing to leave and kept trying to get back on the ride, obviously this wasn't Thorpes fault and the staff dealt with it well.

Going back tomorrow really hoping for some better ops.

Interesting... I've always found Thorpe to have fairly decent operations myself! At least 2 trains on everything, and dispatch times that aren't half bad!

Sounds to me like you are largely answering your own question there. Guest behaviours will often be the defining factor in how fast things can go, so seeing a lot of guests misbehaving will have a huge impact. You'll probably also find by the end of the day the staff had pretty much lost the will to live, let alone dispatch. Only human!

I was at Thorpe yesterday too, I agree it was slow dispatch on Vortex and noticed the large number of travellers and had some disruptive guests on Vortex and Quantum but thought everything else was running pretty well and queues weren't too bad, especially considering the great weather yesterday, I expected it to be busier then it was. Maybe you were just unlucky with Swarm that the disruptive guests were there at the time you were but I agree I don't think you can really blame the park or staff, I did think they were trying their best and also called out some queue jumpers on Rush and refused to let them ride which I always like to see.

They did that announcement on Rush while I was waiting for it a few weeks back. Great that they are actively enforcing the rule! 🙂

Nope can't blame the park I got there for a few hours in the evening when I got off the train I went back today for a full day and the staff were all amazing and very lenient with letting me stay on rides and all very efficient and friendly.

I think it was because yesterday there was a lot of very disruptive guest so by the evening the staff were very worn out I mean I saw 3 groups of people being escorted by security in the first 5 minutes.

Our Uber driver also got surrounded by these disruptive guests when we got dropped off and we told security.

Today operations were good which was my main worry and I got more rides than I could have imagined I just went round and round on inferno and swarm.

Had an amazing day though fair play hats off to Thorpe and fair play for sending the last train of the day on inferno around twice when the kids on it were chanting one more time.

Was back on park today, 5500 guests today when they said typically would be around 2000, lots of school trips that left fairly early so last 2 hours weren't so bad.

Staff still handled everything very well and saw didn't open until about 2pm.
I've never ridden stealth before because I find Rita so uncomfortable but rode it twice today and blimey it's so much incredibly better than Rita.

It was pretty smooth, still uncomfortable restraints and head goes over the headrest but still an incredible experience, both rides were on the front and every aspect of the ride is brilliant.

I think people can over exaggerate how rough saw is, yes it's not smooth but the ride just feels so out of control and demented, it's pretty awesome I wasn't expecting my face to get drenched either.

Had an amazing couple days and I'll definitely miss Thorpe park I do think it's up there with towers and can make for a class day out.

Thorpe park are doing something new where throughout June every Thursday all passholders get unlimited fast track for the last hour of the day.
Usually swarm and inferno are past the merge point at this point of the day on midweek days outside of holiday but probably help get a few cheeky rides on saw, stealth and colossus.

This is the stupidest thing I've heard today. Well done Thorpe. 👏 👏👏

And another one when they finally get on the ride.
I've never understood why they don't just scrap colossus if they can't be bothered to change to functioning trains and restraints that don't give people concussions, take 10 minutes to dispatch and let anyone over 5'11 fit in, doesn't make sense why they never updated it to lapbars.
