Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Yep it was 2020. It was also the year we lost 10pm closes too

To be honest they probably wanted to introduce the paid mazes similar to the Towers structure for a long time, and I guess covid was the perfect opportunity for them to do it.

All maze tickets sold out yesterday, we tried to get one early evening but there was nothing left and they had long waits most of the day. The issue is simply low capacity coupled with high demand

Looks like it’s been a bad day with the weather here, Hyperia hasn’t opened so far and everything else has been on long queues again.

Weather is clearing now though so can imagine a VERY long queue is about to emerge.

After seeing the ads and hearing horror stories I said we wouldn’t do it, but after a successful Scarefest, @Chimpy and I braved Fright Nights yesterday.

Neither of us have much experience in these Halloween things, and having seen the adverts I was prepared for a very busy park and lots of rowdy teens/actors etc.

However, although it was busy, we got on a fair few rides, saw no real incidents, and even Wimpy Chimpy had a great time. The shows were ok - Hells Angels (fire eater and knife thrower) were the most interesting, the high school dance off thing by Stealth was fine but not scary. The scarecrows walk through was tamer than burial grounds, we didn’t brave any mazes as I’m not sure Chimp is ready for that, but we had a great time.

Foodwise we had doughnut time (of course!!) and burritos from Tacotaria which were tasty.

Night rides on Stealth and Swarm were great - we’d definitely do Fright Nights again next year and would say it’s certainly possible to do a mild version if you’re not a fan of jump scares. We didn’t even need the no scare lanyard.

1 train on Hyperia on a sold out day is far from ideal. At least they've actually stopped selling fasttracks this time...

Sure but it was half term yesterday, a Sunday, Fright Night and glorious weather.
Ah, but as you pointed out yesterday, it was also a MAP exclusion weekend (except for Platinum holders).

Sundays are always much quieter at the parks. There are anecdotal reasons for it. Amateur and children's sports teams tend to meet on Sundays, other club activities too. The whole traditional seeing the grandparents and going for a roast. Etc.

It's the same in the other holidays too. Saturdays and Mondays rammed, Sundays not. In fact, on some bank holidays Merlin don't even block out the Sunday for non-platinum passholders, when the Saturday and the Monday will be.
