Would they even need to obtain permission? I though they already have permission for a 850m (length) one on the second Swarm Island - although my mind could be playing tricks on me and it might have been one of those master plan things they have.
 
Its more for the height, they had to get special permission for Stealth, which is 62m tall, hence the white top hat "to blend with overcast weather/the sky" it's highly unlikely they will get permission for anything taller tbh, local NIMBY's would throw a fit or bring up Heathrow and the new runway or some other silly excuse.
Edit: Also an 850m long hyper coaster? 3 hills 2 helices and a brake run and its done. Boring!

If you're going to build a hyper then you need to compete with some great hypers that are already out there. There's little point setting yourself up to fail.

I'd still take a hyper over another dive coaster though...

It was the master plan which does not count as planning permission, more an indication from park and council of what park wants and what council is likely to accept, but planning would still be required.

I'd be surprised to see permission granted for anything that height at Thorpe.
 
I am under the impression that visitation to TP this season isn't where it should be (yet again).

I really don't think the park has much of a future in terms of growth. Nothing they do ever seems to increase visitor numbers.

Maybe it's the park's reputation?
 
Or maybe they should just be realistic and understand that despite the popular opinion of the markets, unfettered growth year on year just doesn't happen to long established businesses of their type.

Plus go back to basics and stop introducing shit like Derren Brown's Fail Train and Angry Birds.
 
I visited yesterday and I was as unimpressed with the operations as on my previous visit, which was a quiet day where I didn't get on all the coasters. Thankfully it got a lot better late on when most of the families were gone but we arrived at 2pm and only managed one ride before doing zombie hunt at 5. In the end it was a good day just about worth the 7+hours of driving, but only because somebody gave me free tickets.
I was impressed by how good Swarm still looks and operates. They were chucking trains out relentlessly as I watched in envy from the inferno queue.
The IPs seem to work for their target market. My son hates spooky stuff but he told me more about Saw (from YouTube videos ) than I ever knew and he lived TWD even if he would have preferred the disco theme.
Not bad but not AT.

Thorpe are still considering permanent accommodation. I did a survey last Sunday when I visited and it was asking about my interest in new on-site accomodation. There were also a lot of questions regarding cleanliness. The surveys in themselves are worthwhile doing as you get a glimpse into what management are currently concerned about.
 
Haha no, but Thorpe is the only Merlin theme park which doesn't have permanent accommodation. I believe Thorpe Shark is only a temporary arrangement and will eventually have to be dismantled.

Don't quote me on this, but I think they can keep Thorpe Shark there till 2024.
 
Containment should be available soon ;). I believe that's not returning for Fright Nights. Along with Big Top as it increasingly looks like the tent is not going to be built in time. RIP Big Top :( Apparently the team responsible for 2016/17 Fright Nights have left Thorpe this year, so proceed with caution if you are planning to go. It looks like Thorpe are going all out on the Walking Dead this year. Their teaser so far on social media refers to the Safe Zone.
 
Is it known whether Thorpe will be offering any new TWD experiences this year, or is it the same as last year's event? It's been rumoured that they're adding a Blair Witch maze, but I'm not sure whether anything else is coming or not.

However, I'll happily admit that I don't follow scare season developments at theme parks too closely because of my dislike/fear of scare actors and actor-based attractions that I have mentioned in other threads. In all honesty, the only things that really appeal to me about Halloween events at theme parks are the décor that the parks put up and the prospect of night rides. The scare side of it doesn't appeal to me at all, but I'm sure Thorpe will put on an excellent event for those that do like this kind of thing!
