Towers Loving Care

Perhaps the budget for TLC is from the fact they arent investing in a new ride next year and the closing of a whole host of rides and attractions for next season?

Have you seen what is going on? The track has literally been scaled right back to the bare metal! It is going to look great - it's a pretty major re-paint!
I might be in the minority (for a change...) but I don't want Nemesis to be looking prim and proper, I want it to look dirty and forgotten. That's sort of the point. It looks much more authentic now than when it was new.

If by next year you mean 2016... Did you forget about Galactica and Rollercoaster Restaurant?

I was refering to SW being delayed/cancelled for the foreseeable future
Okay that may well be true but it doesn't mean that 2017 will see no new rides nor does it mean 2017 will see rides and attractions shuttered.

While I know what you mean (a gleaming white nemesis just wouldn't look right), it's good to see its having some upkeep.

And like this or not, I really wouldn't want to discourage towers if they are keeping to this TLC thing ;)

My view is that nothing at a theme park should ever genuinely be scruffy. If something is meant to look rough or neglected it should be carefully themed and decorated to give that impression while actually being well looked after. After all, a theme park should take you away from reality for a while, and real symptoms of poor maintenance like rust for example can detract from that escapism.

You'll probably think that sounds ridiculous, as nothing can represent rust as realistically as genuine rust of course, but if something is going to be allowed to actually corrode for effect it needs to be maintained well enough for it to not become too far gone and look awful. Ideally the look should be achieved through another method that still manages to be convincing to the casual observer and set the atmosphere for the area, like skilful paint application. In a weird way I find that more realistic within a park environment, and it's probably easier to look after, not to mention much safer if put within reach of guests.

I think it's great Nemesis is getting this repaint, but I do see where people are coming from that the track looks good (if not better) neglected and rusted. However, I think the priority should have been maintaining the station instead. But whatever, I'm not gonna reject a repaint of the track.

A repaint is great news for Nemesis.

I get that Nemesis does look pretty good scruffy compared to other coasters, but if that scruffy-ness is created by allowing rusting and poor condition track, then I'd much rather take a shiny new track repaint. I think it might actually look pretty good given the picture we have seen so far, and the detailing they are adding.

I agree with Cheese that a "high quality" and glossy artists impression of what "run down" is meant to look like is superior to actual poor maintenance.

I genuinely mistook Nemesis for what should be the state of Air prior to the relaunch. By all means it looks lovely and how coasters should look at a leading theme park. That is except, unless they're supposed to look rusty and menacing.

Tell me that's an undercoat and it is going to be weathered a little bit. It's going to look very odd if it's all gleaming white.

I'd certainly hope so. I'm expecting rust effects on supports and a coat of off-white/beige on the track, followed by grime and maybe the odd red mark as before. Remember that the supports are meant to be metal, but the track is organic and part of the monster.

^yeah, they're probably painting the base-layer at the moment, then they'll probably paint the rust effects on top.

The track itself was never "rusty", only the supports. The track was just textured.

In John Wardley's initial memo about the theme that was sent around Tussauds, it's said that Nemesis (at that time unnamed) has tentacles that go into the ground seeking out sustenance. They spread by means of some kind of goo coming from the ends and solidifying into a bony substance over a few hours. External organs (which some scientists had apparently been brave enough to ride!) then go around the tentacles harvesting nutrients and bringing them back to its body. Sure enough, the ride's track merges into the body at both ends, and the other tentacles go down into the ground, where at a guess they'd spread in various directions like tree roots if it really was a terrifying alien instead of a pile of decaying steel, fibreglass and plywood. :p

The part of the backstory that everyone knows of course is that it was discovered during 'routine maintenance' in the world's only park where that term includes excavation, went nuts, started thrashing around with its tentacles and formed its pit, then got pinned down to stop it moving (with the supports). Going totally overboard with the story, you can imagine that the track layout is either how tentacles could have ended up before or during the pinning operation, or just the way they had grown in search of nutrition when there was still ground around them prior to discovery. I'd go with the first idea personally.

I've wanted to write a post like this for ages, because sometimes I really am this much of a sad act.

Bloody heck!

Hope they do something to the station as well if they're doing the repaint job!

I really didn't mind Nemesis' track like that, the filthy old gal ;)

The station IMO needed more TLC.

Is nice to see care being taken though, it's just, HOW BRIGHT?!

VR goggles for air.

Sunglasses for Nemmy.

Looking at that photo again, does it look like they're going for a 'whiter' look, with more red on top of it this time? I'm not complaining at all because I think it looks good but I can't see the usual beige colour on this piece of track(unless it's the light)
