Towers Loving Care
Dear Alton Towers,
Please can we have a 7 foot fence put around the lake?
Be careful what you wish for...
...I wouldn't give then any ideas

Whilst it is absurd, I think Alton Towers seem to be in a litigation limitation place at the moment.
They literally fence everything off. Although I don't really see how it could be deemed ATRs fault if someone fell off those rocks? If ATR could be blamed, then it's the fault of our justice system.
It is regrettable but has become quite normal to see fences in front of fences or walls.
The bubble wrap culture at the theme park is worrying, and actually seems worse than in society at large.

Ah, but telling kids not to do something is going to make them want to do it. You'd be much better off with a sign that reads "Mandatory rock climbing area."Lightwater Valley has a sign in the "Pirates" bit by the Black Pearl...Keep Off The Rocks, cheaper and prettier than a fence.

This fence is certainly not "understandable", neither is it about "h&s culture these days gone mad". If all these things were true then we would see this kind of fence consistency all across the country. The fencing policy isnt even consist across the park, let alone the other Merlin parks.
This is likely due to a recorded accident or near miss on these rocks sometime last year and Towers going overboard with the preventative action. That's not indicative of "h&s gone made these days", but bad policy at Towers, probably to get lower insurance premiums after the crash.

More likely that it's something that COULD, POTENTIALLY happen, but has never happened in the past and is unlikely to happen in the future. This is likely due to a recorded accident or near miss on these rocks sometime last year and Towers going overboard with the preventative action. Let's not forget the Mirror's "30 incidents at Alton Towers since it opened" article in the aftermath of the crash, most of which were people basically falling over. Almost all of those weren't Towers fault, yet they were used in an article to vilify Towers' safety record. A lot of the general public still see Towers as a "death trap".
Basically, since the crash, Towers is terrified of anything that could happen, so they're covering their asses.

Is it bad that I noticed a white blob on the floor in front of the portal and my first urge was to drop a janitor there?
