Towers Merch

That is stupid. Some people are definitely desperate, although I am not sure what they are desperate for.

I think it's older than 80's. Looks it in the flesh anyway. I've always been intrigued as to why it's actually there? It was clearly used in situ as it's on flat ground and has a flat entrance so the cabin wasn't just dumped there randomly to be discarded. It may be also plumbed in but it's been a few years since I've been up there and I didn't check.

Yet it's inside a wooded area, high up on the side of the valley on a steep slope away from the pathway. It's close to the Swiss cottage, but not close enough to be used as toilets for that venue. I can only guess that they pre-date the theme park and were used by guests traversing the gardens.

I can hear Air's theme in the back ground of the video posted above. I know many of us have already walked that path but it is quite odd to be in that part of the park, quite clearly hearing Galactica, Dark Forest's music and Rita launching all from the same place.

Strictly speaking, not Towers merch, but thought it may be of interest. Recently bought these used Pugin/Minton gothic revival floor tiles dating from the mid 19th century, so they are exactly the kinds of tiles that would have been going into the Towers around that period after Pugin arrived (same designer and same manufacturer at around the same time). These were salvaged from a now demolished church. Always admired the tiles remaining in the house conservatory and see loads of nice examples like this in houses of the same period when visiting other places. Very pleased with them and should be a decent little investment and something nice to look at and handle occasionally. Merlin pass for scale 👍

Upon first glance I'd worried that you'd gone insane and purchased the "VERY RARE ALTON TOWERS TOILET TILES" from eBay.

Having said that, they aren't listed anymore... please tell me you didn't?

Why do the bottom ones look like the crackers you'd have with cheese? 😂

My girlfriend was trying to purchase this duffle bag on ebay from the air ride (obviously now galactica), but she ended up getting out-bidded by someone since it was an auction. She really wanted it so I’ve been looking ALL over online for another one but I can’t find anything. Is there any way that any of you would know where i could find one?? I’d really appreciate literally any info on how I could get one!!!

This can’t be real? 🤣.

Is this a ‘trend’ that I am blissfully unaware of that Towers have jumped on?

I have an idea for a new piece of merchandise:-

A jumper with the letter Q printed on it (the "queue jumper" - geddit ?)

Maybe it could double as a Fast-track ticket of sorts, and so anybody wearing one would literally be allowed to jump the queue once per visit, or something

(The jumper would need to be prohibitively expensive for this to work, though, and preferably one that's not easy to replicate at home!)

The only danger is that it could legitimise actual queue jumping

I doubt that Drayton Manor would sell many of the jumpers, as their guests simply jump the queues anyway!

Nothing quite screams "premium family day out" like inadvertently dressing your guests in the uniform of an alt-right, deep state conspiracy cult, purely to facilitate a terrible dad joke.

Another missed opportunity for merchandise and/or a character in costume and/or a potential scare maze when Alton Towers was owned by Madame Tussauds:-

Madame Two-Swords (I'll see myself out...)

Incidentally: if they had created this character, then I wonder if they would have stuck with it after the sale to Merlin (or perhaps Merlin himself might have become a character instead and replaced her)

P.S. This is probably slightly old news now, but there have apparently been multiple examples in recent years of Alton Towers mistakenly using the loop from Nemesis Inferno on their Nemesis Reborn merchandise (*facepalm*) - see link below (I knew that it had happened on a T-shirt, but I wasn't aware of the VIP badge and other merchandise until yesterday):-

I thought the use of Nemesis Inferno's loop in silhouette on Reborn merchandise was widely known? It is pretty obvious anyway just from a glance. I remember spotting it as i walked around the shop (when i finally got in without waiting 4 hours) a few days after opening day.

I've got an old Air jumper that has Nemesis on it.

Also got an old postcard that features Batman as Nemesis wasn't built yet. Could be that the merch and construction timelines didn't align, and they could get the perfect angle at Thorpe instead.

That's interesting stuff!

This isn't exactly the same thing, but I know that various video games have used photographs from beta or prototype versions of the game - presumably because they begun printing the artwork before the game itself was ready? (one example that springs to mind is the old Undertaker costume being shown on early versions of the SmackDown 2 game box, even though it was changed in the final game)

I think that Drayton Manor may have used footage of a different stand-up rollercoaster from America during their promotional videos (either because their ride wasn't ready yet and/or they didn't want to pay to create new footage), although I am not 100% certain

Regarding Nemesis specifically:-

Given that the image of the loop was simply a silhouette (not a photograph), and Nemesis Reborn was a direct clone of the original Nemesis, I am surprised that they didn't at least use an image of the original Nemesis ride from Alton Towers, instead of the ride from Thorpe Park?

The only thing I can think of is that - as you mentioned above - perhaps they couldn't get a good image of the loop from Alton Towers because it was partially underground, whereas the loop at Thorpe Park could be easily imaged from underneath?

If not for the support beam being included in the image, then it may not have even been clear that it was taken from a different ride, as I think the two loops are more or less identical
