Wicker Man - General Discussion - Part Two

Their attitude on social media stinks too. Absolutely appalling.

I thought they would have a copy and paste reply. Something along the lines of.

'Unfortunately due to the cold temperature. Some rides are not operating at the moment. Our technical and operations departments are busy trying to warm the rides up with heaters and hot coco, so we can get them running happily. '

According to the resort app Wicker Man is now open, with only 15 minutes to spare before queues close.

EDIT: Aaand its back to being unavailable again the moment I posted that!

Ahhh okay that makes more sense, I thought it was a bit weird them opening it at the last minute.
Most I've seen is the chain moving very slowly for 5. Minutes round 11, nothing else, think they were planning on it opening as they gave me and 2 follow VIPs the timeout cards.

I feel for Alton Towers plenty of weather warnings again yet they get slated for ride closures

The weather we have had this year has been pretty exceptional to be fair and I understand the staff at Alton being pretty annoyed with some comments on social media. I guess with the likes of wicker man it's not like they could put anything on the track as it may damage the wood.

Maybe with future rides they could install 'heated rails' to stop snow and ice build up on the tracks :) :) :)

After a few very mild winters, the weather so far this year has been pretty typical.
A couple of weeks of snow in March is more common than snow in December.
Merlin's lack of planning and preparation for the poor weather has been the issue.

You could argue the opposite. They planned to get Wicker Man finished early so not to get caught out by any bad weather at the start of this year!

:)
And it's a good thing they did, because if Smiler had been built this year, then it would be in a seriously bad position with regards to construction. It probably wouldn't have opened until June or July had it been built in this sort of weather!

There is an element of just bad luck, Easter is on the early side this year and the weather has been bad for late March early April.

I think the Wickerman downtime has been worse than some SW’s but not as bad as others for opening week bearing in mind the technology is relatively simple. The bigger issue is the park doesn’t have an offering that compensates when wickerman is down.
