X-Sector Developments (Including Oblivion)

Oh look, they are almost finished repainting the Rehydrator. The yellow coat is the primer, the final colour will be orange:
I cannot comprehend why Alton Towers would choose to totally repaint the Rehydrator... in the same (wrong) colours as before?
This was theirsecond third chance to put the original colours back - instead they have just prolonged the problem. Can't anybody see how awful it looks? I suppose they think it "fits the theme" (''fitting'' is such a superficial way of thinking).
This was the original Rehydrator:
Smart white walls, jet black vents. Why was this changed in the first place?
I probably sound really petty. Sure, I mean, it's so trivial, why does this problem even exist?

I'm so happy the pale yellow colour wasn't the new colour, looked very bland - I like the orange, it's Oblivion's theme colour and it lightens up the area...nothing wrong with that?

Yes, that's just the attitude of whoever commissioned this pointless repaint.
While we're at it, let's paint The Marmaliser totally yellow because it's The Smiler's "theme colour", and half of Nemesis can be bright red to "lighten it up".
I'm not allergic to change at all. But it's like these people are too lost in "theming" and "colour schemes" to realise it looks awful, and not the sleek black appearance that was intended.

Well you should be.
As far as theme parks are concerned, and specifically Alton Towers, change means a straying from the original design concept.
This is especially bad when the people who are implementing the change are completely incompetent and have a very limited grasp of the theme they are messing with.
They must be primitive thinkers "Oblivion is all about orange innit, so we'll paint it orange".

Yes, well I just had to say that to sound less like an overreacting fanboy.CoasterCrazyChris said:Well you should be.
Really, the buildings looked so much better in white and black, 15 years ago. There's no point in fiddling, especially when you're spending money on fiddling.
It's like they can't remember what colours the pipes used to be before Fanta, despite all the other pipes in X-Sector being black.

Hex apparently improved dramatically when it changed

Hex was altered by the people who created it. They did a good job at revising the ride without leaving much trace of the original version, so it feels complete. The changes were all in the same vein as the creators' vision for the ride, judging from concept art and planning.Poison Tom 96 said:Hex apparently improved dramatically when it changed![]()
However, with Oblivion the core ride is still there, thrilling riders and looking great this year. But the details have been so endlessly tampered with that I doubt anybody understands what it is "supposed to be" anymore - therefore they don't enjoy the experience as much.
If I were a new rider to Oblivion in 2013, I would just assume it was 'generic'.
It's a shame XSector is such a misunderstood area. Space? Military facility? Government facility? FantaLand? RainbowWorld?

I personally don't think it makes much of a difference whether those pipes are painted orange or black.
In terms of liking change; if a change agrees with one's personal preference then the change will be seen as good. However if one does not agree with the change then change becomes bad.

Wow, never though I'd see so much support for the orange! That's sprung out of nowhere. I'm firmly in the black pipes camp, it was believable and stylish, yet exaggerated, like the rest of x-sector. The orange just doesn't look good to me and that's my bottom line on the matter, I understand that others won't agree

To be honest, the pipes are only the start of what is wrong with the Rehydrator.
It needs a bit of time and money spent on it.

I prefer the black pipes to orange, certainly, though I don't hate the orange. It could be much worse (Hot pink anyone?
), and it is in keeping with the area. It provides a nice bit of contrast against Oblivion and certainly does lighten up the area a bit more.
Either way though I'm glad to see it's getting done. They were in desperate need of a repaint

I think the main issue with the orange is that it clashes so badly with the grey, drabness of all the dirty concrete around the area.

Orange is used in Oblivion's colour scheme because it gives a striking, unexpected contrast to black, when used minimally. But when there is no black, there is no contrast. From a certain angle, when you look across X-Sector, The Marmaliser's bright yellow parts blend with the orange and together it looks so garish - the two least 'sinister' colours ever.
Or maybe they intend that effect. But, if they want X Sector to become 'Cloud Cuckoo Land For Adults' then do more than just paint a few pipes. [Actually, don't do anything.]
Poor pointless pipes, they have lost all purpose now that the Rehydrator has become a lollipop stall (?), and the park seems to think they can pick and choose whatever colour they like in the wake of that idiotic sponsorship.
Oh well, better luck fourth time round.
