If other rides get this system including low throughput rides such as sonic, rita and mumbo jumbo at flamingo land the queues would be around 1.5 hours on quiet days as I have queued an hour for sonic on off peak before. It just wouldn't work on rides wither cattle pens like the smiler. It would become so crowded they would be deaths from being squashed and trampled. Knowing merlin they'll probably apply it at alton, chessington and thorpe and I wouldn't be surprised to see serious injuries knowing thorpes audience because the queue jumpers would be out of control and people with claustrophobia would suffer as I have seen people panic in the lift of sub terra. Some people need personal space. It's just stupid. If they are going to have them wait until they are seated then make a short announcement about keeping arms and legs inside the car like the one in thirteens station!
 
In regards to the above post - I highly doubt anyone else will employ this technique on any other ride in the world.

Your hypothetical situations will almost certainly never happen :)

Oh Intamin, why can't you just build things that work like I don't know; B&M, Mack, Vekoma, Premier etc?

The 18-year-old is thought to have been flung from the ride at the Terra Mitica theme park after his harness failed.

National newspaper El Mundo quoted local councillor Jose Marcet saying the dead man was British. However, other reports suggest he could be from Iceland.

The roller coaster where the accident happened is called Inferno - Catalan for 'Hell'.

It does 360 degree turns and produces 3g forces at speeds of more than 40mph.

A judicial source confirmed a court in Benidorm had opened an investigation.

The source said: "Benidorm court number two has opened an investigation following the death of a person involved in an accident at a ride in Terra Mitica theme park.

"The judge is awaiting a police report after which he will decide what action to take.

"We don't have any more information at this stage

Benidorm's National Police said: "We are still investigating and can't give out any information about the victim or his age or nationality at this stage."

The incident happened around 4.30pm this afternoon.

The teenager is understood to have been with his dad, his brother and a friend when it happened.

He was alive when paramedics arrived but died inside the ambulance after suffering heart arrest around 5.30pm

Terra Mitica, which translates literally as 'Mythical Land' in English, was opened in 2000 and the roller-coaster at the centre of the tragedy was opened in July 2007.

It is in the Egypt zone, one of the five-themed zones of the theme park, which is influenced by ancient Egyptian culture.

No-one from the theme park, which has operating independently since emerging from temporary receivership in 2006, has yet made any public comment.

Tragic. Thoughts with the family and friends of the victim. Intamin have far too many issues like this; they need to step back and take a long hard look at themselves and what they do as it is not acceptable. More and more parks will stop buying their products, we've already seen some big parks/chains fall out with them.

I wonder how the restraint failed on this, as the type of restraint has two independent hydraulic cylinders used as fail safe in case one fails, plus has over shoulder straps attached to lap bar which is like Rita's, plus a seat belt from the seat to the restraint.

At this point i think its important to wait until more info/investigation is completed before coming to any conclusions on what caused the incident.

I suspect there's more to this than meets the eye. After the drop tower death in 2012 you'd have thought they'd have gone over the restraint mechanisms with a toothcomb to prevent it happening again.
 
Wow :/ two major incidents in a day, although one admittedly not necessarily the ride. Looking at some of the pictures which seem to be popping up, it looks as though there's a fair bit of damage to the front of the train. I doubt we'll be seeing it opening for a while now looking at it, but more importantly I hope everyone on there is ok and isn't too badly injured.

Looks like the incident at Magic Mountain could have been a lot worse than it is, there could easily have been very serious injuries. Thank god there weren't. Seems horribly bad luck as well.

How bad were the injuries, I could imagine whiplash and broken bones, it looks nasty and this could stop people riding because some people just see the words derail and rollercoaster accident and keep away from them without knowing it was no ones fault. At least no very serious injuries though. Very unfortunate, does anyone know whether the tree fell onto the track while the ride was going along the track or was it in the station or lift hill.
 
According to Screamscape, Gronalund has closed Insane in response to the Zacspin incident. I was there recently but did not ride as it looks a very unpleasant experience to start with... I'm sure some people were speculating about Oakwood of all places getting one, I'm sure we can rule that out now...?
 
@Bear went through last night and found that Intamin have had 10 ride ejections. 10! 10 people have put their trust in this company and had it violated in the most horrific way possible.

You have to wonder how much longer they have near the top of the pile of manufacturers. If you can't trust the restraints to stay closed, why would you trust the wheels to stay on? (An exaggeration ;) )
 
It sounds like all Intamin ZacSpin's have been closed as a precaution and are being inspected. I'd imagine Intamin have instructed this whilst the incident in investigated.

I have been on the Zac spin at Magic Mountain and you do put alot of force on the restraint. Some of the previous intamin ejections were down to rider and operator error so i will wait to see results of the investigation before laying all at Intamins Door.

One of the spanish papers reports that the restraint bar broke along with the seat belt, i would imagine if the lapbar broke away the force would easily snap the seat belt. I am no engineer so dont know if possible but could their have been a fracture in the metal restraint bar and that gave way during the ride causing the lap belt to snap into two.
 
Surely anything forcefull enough to snap the metal lap bar would also break the riders legs? O.O
