Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Samurai has had "parking issues" since it was first built at Chessington in the 90's! For some reason they wanted it reprogrammed so that the arms would always park in the same place. Every other Top Scan on Earth just stops wherever it stops.
I've never seen it as bad as it was yesterday. It was stopped about 30 ft in the air (apparently, I couldn't see anything, it was at about half height), with the gondola still rotating at a 45° angle. Very uncomfortable, especially as the seats kept slowly tilting further back until it was nearly completely upside down. It was stopped about 40 seconds - a minute, and it happened at the end of every cycle.

Stealth remains down today, with "the island is changing" signs around it. Doesn't look like there's anything visibly wrong with it (can share photos later, but thorpes internet is abysmal. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will spot something I didn't).

Also, there's keep out signs between x and slammer (which I got on today :), Not sure if I like it or not). Looks like somethings happening around there and loggers leap. Can find photos later if anyone wants, but right now I'm trying out bush barbecue.

Samurai is so nearly dead it's sad. Put the poor thing out of its misery.

This is one of the reasons I'm dubious about more flats at Towers - Merlin don't maintain them well. Thorpe may have a good line up, but Samurai, Slammer and Vortex are all shadows of their former selves.

Probably prep for Fright Nights

Loggers Leap is closed at the moment, but I'm not sure why. it has been removed from the "Rides" page on the website.

Couldn't see much from looking at stealth from the ground, but had a good view from on swarm. Looks like there were wooden barriers along the launch track. Heard on thorpe park mania that the catch car has detached from the launch cable.

Also, I'd like to say that thorpes complaint response is great. Was eating at Bush barbeque earlier, and found quite a bit of hair in my meal. They were great with us, offering us a new meal and drinks.

I don't think Loggers Leap will be returning if it's been removed from the site. Rumour says it's being removed and something will be in its place.

Eauuu! Hair ?! And you had another meal ?! o_O

I heard rumours last week when I was at Thorpe that it was catch car issues with Stealth, and I assume a part must be on order with it being down so long.

Stealth must be down for a long time, as there's a message in the banner at the top of Thorpe's website's home page that says "please note: Stealth is currently unavailable".

I was on park today and was told by a member of staff who said he worked on the inside of DBGT that it was unlikely that Stealth will be running for the rest of the season. Of course I am unsure of the validity of this information.

They can replace the whole launch cable in a day, so I highly doubt that is the issue. Sounds more like an excuse to close a ride if you ask me.

Those rides have a fair history of causing significant damage if there is a failure as part of the launch system.

A simple bolt failure on a Kingda Ka during a launch meant it closed for 2 months.

Launch cable area looked fine. Didn't look any think like rita when it snapped (didn't see any ground damage). Has there always had metal railings along the side of the launch track though? Wasn't any work going on either, so unless it was a train fault or they're ordering a new part, nothing was happening.

Always been railings along Stealths launch - after the Rita cable snap they blocked off the area so you couldnt walk under it and the following closed season additional railings were added and that area reopened.

Stealth was down most of last Saturday and reopened around 5pm - it opened again for the MOS event but was up and down throughout the event - It went down at 11pm - they fixed sent that train and hasnt opened since - on the Sunday there were small cranes above the launch track in the station.
