Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Icon - 2018 Mack Double Launch Coaster

Hang on a minute... WORLD'S FIRST?! :tearsofjoy:

And people thought "world's first roller coaster fusing wood and fire was bad" (it was) - this is a complete and utter lie, have they never heard of Helix (the ride Icon literally took inspiration from), Manta, Full Throttle etc?

Their complacency and/or incompetence is shocking.

Makes me thing of Bernard Manning's "World Famous Embassy Club".

It was world famous in Manchester.

Every amusement or theme park these days is obsessed with branding everything a world's first. I'm not convinced it makes a huge difference to gate numbers as the concept is so jaded.

I'm not even convinced that it ever did, when the World Firsts were genuine.

I suppose advertising as a world’s first can’t harm the number of visitors drawn in. If you know it’s not a world’s first, you’re probably already planning a visit. If not, it could attract you.

It just feels a bit shady to adopt such a strategy though. Especially when this ride should be sold on its quality, rather than pushing any gimmick. I thought the industry had started to move on from that.

Looks more like a mistake than a strategy to me.

They should say "UK's first magnetically launched roller coaster", that would sound cool. Or just emphasise how much longer it is than Velocity, Rita etc. I think long roller coasters are underappreciated.

On reflection, I like the TV advert but feel that the second half is quite weak. The industrial first half is really clever, but I feel that it should have been more "human" in the second half focusing on people riding the ride, with a few POV shots showing some of the elements it does etc.

It's a very well produced advert, but I don't think it screams "new roller coaster, ride it now" enough.

Advert mostly reminds me of the opening credits of How It's Made.

It's a darn sight better than that laughabbly amateur non-icon TV ad they were showing earlier in the year.

Oh deary me Blackpool. World's first double launch coaster? Someone either just doesn't care about making facts up, doesn't have a clue about what they are doing or both! Blatant fasle advertsing.

As for the TV advert, I quite like it.

:)

Amanda said that wasn't her advert so I dunno what happened there ...

Anyway! ... Not long now till it's open :D
