I can definetely tell a huge change between this season and the 2017 season in terms of visitor numbers. I visited several times between march to September and the park was never that busy and you could easily get on all the big coasters. The only busy period was scarefest which was expected. However this season the queues seem long most weekends.

Can’t decide if I like it or not. Of course it’s lovely to see the park busy again and full of life. But the operational issues put me of visiting, especially when I could go to Drayton manor or Blackpool and experience shorter queue times and a wider variety of attractions.

I managed 34 in a day at Towers once, but that was when there was a somewhat healthier ride offering and a good selection (and full hour) for ERT. For comparison, I managed 46 in a day once at EP, on a 6-9 day. I did rush around though trying to get on as much as possible, but even so.

Sorry for comparing to EP but I feel it's needed here. I've worked out that regardless of when you visit EP, if you're there to do rides but don't hurry around (take time for lunch, enjoy the atmosphere, have drinks etc), then it's easy to average 25-30 rides a day, and even more when it's quiet. All because EP have a huge amount of different rides, attractions and experiences, without having to walk ages from one thing to the next, like you do at Towers, as well as their fantastic approach to opening later than advertised if it's busy.

How many of those "steps" were actually from being jolted around on rides though? ;)
Until I did a test on my Apple Watch on swarm I always thought coasters would add steps on but it didn’t add any on on 2 separate tests, maybe I didn’t give it enough time to update before I checked it.

It will depend if it's a cheap device or not, some will just look out for any vibration where as others do fancy maths to reduce false readings.

Spinba11, I think what he's trying to say is that you're an inferior product buying cheapskate! :D:D

I'm visiting Alton Towers on Friday in September and slightly disappointed to see it's a 4pm close, although it's not totally unexpected. I checked Blackpool Pleasure Beach for the same day and it's 11:00 to 5:00, so they're actually open for the same number of hours. The big difference is the weekend though when Pleasure Beach is two hours more than Towers.

The question though is how much you can get done in 6 hours at Towers compared to 6 hours at BPB. The time you spend walking at Towers reduces your ride count even without thinking about the much longer queue times. Term time weekdays at BPB are walk on for every ride.

I've just booked a wristband at BPB and I have been offered a free return day in September . Now that's how to impress customers . On a separate note I was thinking if legoland visitor numbers were to decrease ( and I know thats if) would merlin impose cuts and SBNO rides? I bet they wouldn't dare near London etc.
