Liseberg: General Discussion

A few thoughts on Liseberg...

The flat ride line up is incredible. Loke is obviously the hightlight, we need one of those over here. Aerospin is great, and the location up the hill makes it even better, same with Upswinget. Jukebox is hilarious.

The coasters are all quality. Couldn't believe how smooth Balder is, it rides like a brand new RMC. There's so many airtime moments, but mainly small, sharp pops - none of which are particularly sustained. It's more 'fun' airtime than aggressive.

Valkyria is one of the better dive coasters, it's a lot more forceful than Valravn. Still, these coasters aren't for me, I just find them a bit dull.

Lisebergbanen is an excellent family coaster, very fun and rerideable.

Helix is the obvious highlight, better than Blue Fire and Icon, obviously. Got on this around 10 times, all over the train and it's definitely a back row coaster for me because the airtime is noticeably stronger. I was surprised at how forceful this is in places too. It's not one of my top tier coasters, it's not really aggressive enough, but I completely get why people do rate it so highly.

The Halloween stuff was fun, lots of Pumpkins, but also Potatoes and Red Onions. The theming in the mazes was of a very good standard, but most of them were lacking in actors so the scares were few and far between. Skogen is probably the best one due to the location in the trees. The scene in Vinden with the 6ft creepy dolls with massive heads was very well done. The zombie scare zone around Valkyria was also very well done and attracted huge crowds.

Saturday was pretty packed, but Sunday was completely dead with all rides walk on. Helix's concrete queue line of doom is very annoying.

Other stuff:

Spent about 20 quid trying to win 2000g of Daim.

Fell down some stairs and have a bruised arse.

Rode there on an electric scooter from our hotel.

I would love a go in that swimming pool overlooking the park at Gothia Towers.

Swedish teenagers love to spit everywhere.

God bless escalators.

When I did a behind the scenes there we were told because it's a prefab they can easily reorder and retrack any rough areas which happens very often kepping that stupidly smooth ride

Fair play to them, it's clear they put a lot of care into the park.

I wasn't sure what to expect, as El Toro is very rough in comparison.

That’s a real shame to hear now as el tori is my world number one and was smooth as glass when I ride it, could have been opening year though! A truly insane coaster

Don't worry it's still insane, but it's clearly not been maintained as well as Balder. It's pretty uncomfortable.

El Toro is not as smooth as it used to be, but unless it has aged significantly in the past 12 months I would not say it is very rough.

Glad to hear you had a great time @RicketyCricket ! I loved my trip there during Halloween season last year and had similar highlights. Balder is my favourite woody, love it.

Just out of interest, how would you have got the Monster Daim bar back to the UK? Or would it have been devoured before then :D?

The 'giant bars' are a bit of a con because they open up to reveal 2kg worth of regular size bars, individually packed, not the single monster bar that you'd imagine... makes them easy to fit in your luggage though.

Agreed. I don't have a top 10 but if I did El Toro would be in there somewhere. It's an almost perfect ride.

It's fine up until the twisted section near the end, which was a bit much. Not bashing it though, I loved El Toro.

Stuffed in the cheeks like a Hamster.

And yes it's a fantastic park. There were several other Brits there too. Based on what we paid for flights, I could book 6 return trips there for the price of a MAP :p

Went on El Toro back in June and thought it was excellent. I preferred Baldur though, suppose getting about 12 laps in the dark after park close can help these things.

Haha that makes sense, cheers for the intel!

I loved liseberg when I visited in September the place is unique and beautiful at night. I’ll be going back next as I’ve bought a pleasure beach platinum pass!

I need to anyway after I bottled Loke.My friends weren’t too eager to ride either so I had no one to force me on.

For those who enjoy Halloween, you must put Liseberg Halloween on your list! It is amazing, and the horror mazes are outstanding. Vinden and Zombie are just incredible!

I took some photos if anyone is interested. https://www.flickr.com/photos/themeparkmania/albums/72157711453511038

Also construction is pretty well hidden for their new dark ride next year, I couldn't really get any pictures as it's covered in a large Marquee, but it looks huge!

Does anybody know when the 2020 opening times/dates are released? As I can't seem to find them yet but looking to plan in a first visit, many thanks.

I think some time towards end of January they usually update their website. We're looking at booking for next year too. It's becoming a must visit for me these days. Great selection of coasters, flat rides and new dark ride for 2020 too to try out.
