@RoyJess, Fair enough, I'll admit that for most people in a healthy relationship, the love of their life is the last person they will genuinely start hating in a lockdown situation.

But at the same time, most healthy relationships can still flare into arguments quite quickly when external stress is a factor.
It starts with passive agressive sniping...
"Will you PLEASE stop leaving washing up in the sink? Put it on the side!"
...
"I will when you change the toilet roll rather than leave an empty one on the holder!"
....
"Well you should at LEAST give the the shower and bath off a cursory hosing down after you've shaved in there!"
.....
"YOU KEPT MAKING EYES AT THAT WAITRESS!"
.......
"What? When‽"
.........
"Our fourth aniversary!"
............
"What? THAT WAS FIFTEEN YEARS AGO, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!"
................
"I'VE BEEN FAKING IT ALL THESE YEARS AND GOT OFF WITH YOUR DAD AT YOUR SISTERS WEDDING!"
...
...
...
Boy, that escilated quickly.
[Please note, these are fictional examples and are not based on my personal life or that of anyone I know]

Serisously. I would suggest anyone staying home with friends and/or family bring this up sooner rather than later, get it out in the open, and be ready for all the tetchyness that will inevitably come to us all sooner or later. ;)

Otherwise, it ends with a red and white checked gingham dress.... and army boots....

I think the only reason people are stockpiling is because they're panicked, which to be fair, is perfectly understandable.

Blame 4chan, it was them that started rumours that toilet roll production lines had been shut down to make face masks and people should stockpile them, it then snowballed from there as others describe.

@DiogoJ42 sounds like a regular day in this household.

I do wonder if there will be a different kind of NHS emergency around Xmas though, I.e. overwhelmed maternity wards as a result of this lockdown.

I am so glad that 1) my sister-in-law didn't somehow get trapped here, and 2) my dad lives far enough away that the phone is used first lol.

Wait when did Diogo get a heart?!

Kidding, this is very sound advice, remember your loved ones are loved, even if you want to stab them 37 times in the chest and eat there hands.

Sorry if this comes out as a double post, this was written while I was typing my last waffle. I'm hoping something else gets posted while I'm writing this one as I CBA to edit the last one. ;)

I'm still a heartless bastard, don't worry. I'm just following the logical argument, as famously put forth by Spock:
Mister Spock said:
The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one".
Right now, for the greater good of society... no, for the survival of our species, anything that can help boost the moral of the masses, or at the very least help my friends and internet aquaintances stay a little bit saner gets my support. I'm still going to snark and scoff where people are acting dumb enough to bring about their own well-deserved demise. But I'm willing to suspend my full "miserable old moaner on the interweb" persona for the greater good of our collective moral, on this here fine Geekdom community!

Remember folks, and for the benefit of any new members (hi BTW!) this forum was quite litterally FOUNDED on friends sticking together to support each other in hard times! In one evening several hundred people, only a few of which had ever met in real life, rallied together to support our team for all their hard work, and we all went and started our own new forum! With blackjack! And hookers!

There aren't many things in the current world that I "believe in", but the friendly and supportive atmosphere amongst this here FINE group of random assorted weirdos... all diverse... from all groups and walks of life.... some even in other countries.... all of us have come together for one shared interest....
And out of that, friendships have formed. Couples have met. Babies have been concieved and born! Sure, not all of us have got on over the years. There have been arguments, both online, and in real life. There have been Awkward meets when couples have split up. There have been losses along the way. Some members have drifted away in to obscurity.
But there have been great times as well. How many of us are lucky enough to say that at least one of the top five wildest / craziest / funniest / best (or other wise just memorable and positive) occasions in our social lives have been a direct result of THIS HERE FORUM?

So if there's one thing I'm not going to joke about, ever, it's how much faith I have in... This. In US. In you. We're going to get through this together guys, because thats what Towers Street members have always done: be good friends to each other.
;)

[EDIT TO ADD: @Craig and the rest of the team, feel free to quote this rare moment of me being soppy in any future forum promotional whatevers. ;) And keep up the good work, all of you. Cheers guys!]

Holy **** man, you made me almost catch the feelings for a minute there. I’ve lurked for a long time, only recently at the start of the year made an account and this year was to be my first with meets. I can already say that everyone I’ve spoken to and met, have been absolutely incredible. Funny. Caring. And all in all damn fine people.

Once all is said and done, I can’t wait to be more involved in everything, to be at the meets, and to build life long friendships.

No matter what community your in, who your friendship group is. Whatever. Arguements happen, people come and go, but the ones you know you can rely on. There few and far between, but there the ones you know you can argue with all day, get in the car wanting to strangle them, and still text them when ya get home and be like nothing ever happened. Those are the people that you need in life.

Honestly man, you should go full rant more often it’s a bl**dy masterpiece.

Here here Diogo, here here. Let us have a beer, and wait for all of this to blow over!

What can I say?
/blushes

Don't worry folks, I'm still me. I'll find something to rant about over in my favourite Pet Hates topic soon enough. ;)

... Though at the same time, should anyone, for whatever reason, be desperate enough to need to "talk" to me... presumably as a very last resort... My PM inbox is open. Though I warn you now, I the chances of be being any actual help are on the sub-atomic scale. ;)

Right, now where's that blummin Bricklink order I made three and a half weeks ago? Surely it cannot take THIS long for a small package to get here from the Netherlands‽ I know things are a bit up in the air right now, but come on!.....

2 week quarantine at either end?

Interesting they're promoting online delivery services, hopefully there will be adequate sanitation in the packaging department to avoid accidental contamination
there won't be

Home schooling and home working is going to be fun - we have a fairly large house (5 bedrooms and study) help me keep distance to work but we do have four children

day one since the illness and they are already driving me mad

So damn loud - keeping mental strength is going to be hard during this outbreak

Still - imagine the night out when this is all over and pubs reopen .... keeps me going

I am one of the lucky ones that have the ability to completely isolate during these period, along with my partner who works in the leisure industry and our little girl.

We are also lucky to have a garden to sit in during this beautiful weather.

The upside for me is that it is so still and quiet. Every morning, I wake up and hear the birdsong more clear than I have done before and the world feels more like it should be in some way.

There is always light and dark and the experiences I have been able to have, having my partner at home and feeling the land begin to heal, is the light for me. I am just so grateful that others who have to keep moving are doing so. And all I’m being asked to do is stay at home with my family and make memories I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise (and people moan about isolation like it’s the worst thing in the world, perhaps these people would like to volunteer for the NHS or Tesco?) And when we come out the other side, what an appreciation we will have for all the things we took for granted. Although I hope people take the hint a little bit more and learn to be a bit more aware of how poorly we treat this world.

Apparently, (this was explained on the TV the other day) the virus only lives on surfaces for up to 2 hours in most cases. The 3 day's survival on hard surfaces was under lab conditions and a higher concentration of the virus was used in their testing than what you would normally expect. For a surface to be contaminated, someone would have to either cough or sneeze over it in the first place. In a majority of the test, the virus didn't survive more than 2 hours. Under normal conditions, the virus will not survive that long outside the body. So the recommendations are, to wash your hands before you handle anything that are deliver to you and then again after handling the items. As recommended by someone on here, I have a spry bottle with a disinfectant mix in and I spray it on anything that is delivered to me. If I can't spray the item, I will leave it in a box inside my garage and for a week before bringing it into the home. You can't be too careful.

should live near me, have three neighbours all with dogs that lock them out all day and all they do is bark.. constantly
2 big dog with big deep loud barks and a small yappy thing that needs a good kicking

o_O

I know the only reason they lock them out as they cant stand them in the house barking.. one of them I can hear locked in the house and this is across the road from me !

edit: a delivery van has drove past and set them off again :rage:

Jenny Nicholson, one of my favourite YouTubers, has tweeted a thread about her day-to-day symptoms over the last two weeks. I'm so glad she's (mostly) recovered.

I know exactly how that feels!

Next door only have one, luckily we are detached but it barks at anything that goes by and if they have people over they have to shut it outside and all it does is bark constantly.

They don’t see it as an issue

Our neighbour got ride of their dog, bit sad really as he was a good burglar alarm.

At the moment my 6am alarm call is the woodpecker in the copse opposite and the family of tits in my neighbours front hedge below our window.

You think it's bad now @Jb85, wait a few weeks until it's 30C outside and your not even allowed into your garden without permission (because that's the powers the Government just awarded themselves, along with other stuff that would embarrass 1984).

Genuine question here on this self isolation advice, self-isolate for 14 days if you have symptoms (patient x for 7, family for 14), what happens after 14 days if you still have the symptoms because you have something else other than COVID-19?

Also looks like DVSA have just announced a six month exemption on private car and van MOT requirements from 30th March 2020, garages to stay open for essential repairs but sounds like they're ramping up for garages to be closed to non-essential customers. I also saw something about the self employed getting a universal basic income based on 80% of their average earnings over the last three tax returns, or £2000, whichever is greater, to live on. Should help a lot of people and is better than the kick in the teeth we were getting.

In the grand scheme of things, unless someone directly sneezes over the box or you, its probably fine. Much more risk of getting sneezed/coughed over if you are in a shop.

Again, I know how fortunate we are. I really feel for people who have particularly noisy neighbours or surroundings or no garden. These are the people which will have to make the most of their daily walk, which is the main reason why people need to be careful overstepping the mark. I can do without needing to go out for a walk, but for those with no outdoor space, it would be awful for them if selfish people took away their opportunity to have some fresh air.

My neighbour is shoving it in our face again, and flouting the new rules, granny is over again (she lives in a town about four miles away) and boyfriend was around last night for their workout session, he lives in a town 11 miles away and is a delivery driver for Ocodo, they are the apithany of everything wrong with this country at the moment, a Boomer and a Gen Zr ignoring the rules because they know best.

I am sneezing like crazy, the looks we keep getting are priceless but if one of them gets Coronovirus and dies, they'll get no sympathy from me, I'm way past giving a toss over whether someone deserved to suffer or not when they're potentially putting everybody who lives in the blocks lives at risk cos they don't give a frak for their own health and "have too much life experience" to use common sense.

I may have it. I have had a cough the last couple of days alongside sneezing and runny nose. My family are now isolating. The fact I don't even know if I have it or not suggests the real figures are much higher than the official figures. However that in turn suggests the death rates are a lot lower than the official ones.

Sneezing and runny noses with a cough are not a common symptom, if they are then I've had it for a month and I must be Jesus Christ reincarnated, you probably just have a spring cold like I probably have (and get every year at this time).

Had to escape. Came to work for a few hours.
Comes to something when you want to go to work.
Eyam should be a safe place to work I think.

How the people in the city’s cope I don’t know.
