I think what has happening, as with every one panic buying bog roll more people panic more people buy..
the same has happened with world governments.. one goes into lockdown and the rest panic and lock up their people.

Oh absolutely, it's like none of them want to be the one to say let's not panic just yet, see how things go, no need to lock down the country if you control the flow of people into it properly, i wonder if we had closed our borders when everybody was begging to be locked up (yes looking at you BBC) whether it would have made a difference, after all in the beginning, every case could be traced as being imported, and to those that say we can't close the borders, yes we can, the rest of the world has had no problem doing it - we are laughably one of the few that still has virtually no border control.

Boris started with this relaxed attitude, then something changed, I said previously he never gave the public shaming of what happened at the weekend chance to work and overreacted, now we've got to spend the next 12 weeks inside as a result, even before the announcement Monday this social embarrassment was working and there was a marked reduction in people out than had been on the Sunday because as evident by my neighbour, those that were not taking any notice of the "advice" are still ignoring the law now.

It's what day 3 of "lockdown uk"? and people are already starting to loose their shyte and grasp of reality, just had this woman screaming abuse at me and my wife becuase we stood too close to her, we were about 5 and a half foot from her outside the coop and couldn't get any further away becuase doing so meant standing in the (still busy) road, she took our photos and said she was reporting us to the Police, which is pointless becuase we were wearing face masks which concealed our identities lol.

I told this woman that I didn't think five inches was going to make much of a difference if I had it and coughed, and if she was that concerned just move away and I'm sure the boomer on the other side of her would accommodate her as I wasn't going to stand in the road so she could have her 2 meters of safe space, he laughed and told her to stop overreacting and that was like someone flicked s switch, bareage of abuse, screaming, crying, was told I was being irresponsible for being outside etc. which everybody found highly amusing, so I simply waved the prescription bag in front of her and said I didn't have a choice but to be out (we had to go to the chemist to collect becuase we are not in the high risk group to get a delivery) etc.

If this is what people are like after 3 days because someone dares stand FIVE INCHES too close I dread to think what the end of next week is going to be like, let alone in 3 months time.

To top it all off? When I eventually got in the co-op she was at here checkout standing next to the counter, she went to start again and I just pointed to the floor and said "social distancing" - she was completely ignoring the lines on the floor, but hey, it was her getting too close to someone else this time, so I guess it didn't count....

Stop the world, I want to get off.

@robb666 I'm not sure what you would consider a lockdown to be then, but I consider having my freedoms to do as I wish outside of my own home curtailed to be being in a lockdown, fact check: I am not allowed to go for a drive in my car for no other reason than driving the car, so I am therefore "in lockdown", saying I'm not, won't change the fact.

Anybody else finding it psychosomatic? I'm pretty sure I've just got a cold as I've had an occasional cough, fever and general aches and tiredness the last few days... it's certainly not been serious or debilitating. But it's hard to stop my mind from trying to convince me it's Covid.
I’ve had covid since January. I still have it !

Maybe.

But I’m sure I have.

Fact check.
There is no lockdown in this country.
This is not day three of lockdown.

Stay in. If you you out you get fined.

Sounds like a lockdown to me.

You may go out for exercise, to work, to shop, to assist others in case of urgent need, or to pass children on to another carer or parent.
No lies, and no fines.
Not a single fine has yet been issued for going out.
To anybody.
The lockdown may come, but it is not here yet.
Misuse of terms causes unneccesary panic.
This is not day three of any lockdown.
Misinformation on social media is a very big problem.

Fines aren't able to be issued till the police get the power, should be by the end of today

Yes exactly, nothing is law yet, but we're still having our movements severely restricted, and my point still stands, if people are loosing their shyte this easily over trivial things like that (same shop has had people fighting over milk this week) what the heck is going to happen in six weeks when we are actually in a situation that rob does consider to be lockdown?

At which point do we crack out our Mad Max cosplay gear?

If misinformation on social media is a big problem rob, then might I suggest the forum be closed until further notice, as there is no way to fact check any of the personal opinions expressed here?

You never have to read this topic for long to see that some people's mental health has been completely destroyed by this already.

Reading through it in a months time will be an interesting one.

Bring back the Air tunnel thread I say.

Are you trying to cause a social uprising, because the Air runner is how you cause a social uprising.

I think it always has been @DiogoJ42

Love the announcement just now, give with one hand, take with another, oh and you still have to survive until June before you'll get the help.

To summarise, 80% subsidy grant to self employed based on average monthly earning from last 3 years, 1) profit is below £50k (but you will only get a maximum amount which is nowhere near 80%, only someone earning £50 a week will really get the 80%), 2) you cannot apply for it, they will contact you about it, 3) you'll get a lump sum payment in June equivalent to three months earnings. I assume if your income is over £50k you have to apply for a business interruption loan, they basically said these were people earning millions, so they were not going to help them lol.

Knowing how this government do things, I wonder what other hidden clauses they'll be, will by applying for the grant will you be instantly kicked off WTC? He already hinted that class 2 and class 4 NI contributions will go up after this, so I think "read the small print" will apply (and likelyhood is, even if you don't get the grant, you'll still pay for it one way or another, so best apply anyway).

Yes it's better than a kick in the teeth, but it seems this government make everything so complicated, this 80% furlong for employed people is still not up and running (they have only just announced "further details" in this announcement today).

Interesting times. He's getting an absolute kicking by most of the media who are asking how the heck is someone supposed to last until then?

and LOL edit, the assistant chief medical officer just refered to our present situation as being "in lockdown". So I think that's as about as official as it gets? No?

LOCKDOWN
The new powers mean officers can:

  • ensure parents are doing all they can to stop their children breaking the rules
  • issue a £60 fixed penalty, lowered to £30 if paid within 14 days
  • issue a £120 fixed penalty for second-time offenders, doubling on each further repeat offence
Anyone who does not pay can be taken to court, with magistrates able to impose unlimited fines.

If they still refuse to comply, police can arrest them.

Yeah we just had an email from the BMFA to say the same as @pluk said the other day, cutting the club grass is not considered part of your daily exercise so don't do it, did you grass on me pluk? ;)

Did someone also mistake 1984 as an instruction manual too?

LOCKDOWN DAY 3 has indeed been entertaining.

I do find it odd though that in all other countries the police have been given face masks to protect them. Here in the UK, I don't see any police in the news stopping people wearing masks. Surely they need some protection?

Unsure if it's been mentioned here but there'll be an appreciation for the NHS staff tonight at 8pm by clapping by your windows, garden, doors, balcony etc

Does anybody else find the Russian figures suspiciously low? 840 cases and 13 deaths in the largest country in the world seems lower than you'd expect.
