Can't catch Covid at the seaside then?

Who knows? We’ve had packed beaches for months in Margate, with people saying it will bring on the second wave.

We’ve just gone 14 days without a single positive test.

It’s all a mystery!

Second surge.... I dont think think the people of the UK would do another national lockdown. I dont think the UK economy could cope with it nor could peoples wages especially with Brexit about to hit hard in December. Models I have seen of the impact of the NHS in December depend on what sort of flu season we get. If everyone is washing hands and wearing masks, then as seen in Oz, there wont be much of a flu season.

Also, many doctors think despite no credible published evidence, but from their own experiences, the virus is not putting as many people in hospital or ICU. This may be because its younger people now getting it, or perhaps the virus has mutated, or that more of us have had it than we think - who knows.

Is the UK prepared for a second surge......... no.

Because I dont trust them and I dont trust the Russians. The virus came from China, both countries apparently have started vaccinating their people (as far back as July in China it now emerges), and both countries are flexing their military might against the West..... so excuse me if I don't trust them at all.

And we do have a choice whether we agree to have a chemical injected in to our bodies or not.

So you wouldn't take a WHO approved Chinese/Russian vaccine but would you take a WHO approved UK/USA vaccine?

USA has a pretty sketchy when it comes to big Pharma in the last 20 years (Martin Shrikeli is a living bond villain) and pinning your hopes on UK vaccine from a public company that has nothing to lose and everything to gain isn't the best either. Not forgetting AstraZeneca had negotiated a deal where you cannot sue them for any after effects of said vaccine. WHO have already cautioned against the Russian vaccine, so its not as if they are just bunging any old thing through.

It's very true you can choose not to take the vaccine but the government will make it very hard for you to lead a comfortable life if you don't have it. Want to go abroad, your kids to go to school, or to get a job/benefits? They could make it mandatory that you need a vaccine before any of that could happen. Given that the UK lost its measle free status from the WHO this year, a major change in the UK health policy and vaccination policy is likely anyway.

For balance I'm also skeptical about the Chinese vaccine but if it meets the international standard, I don't see the issue. I would prefer to see the Oxford trial work more than others purely for the selfish reason that reason that it will be distributed in the UK pretty quickly. Ideally we'd all want NZ to make it as seems to be the only country that anyone likes these days :D

Good luck boycotting anything Chinese but it's practically impossible. The active ingredients in Paracetamol and many common medicines are manufactured in China and sold to UK pharmaceutical companies. That's before you move onto the food and drinks company.

I have the Buycott app to avoid buying Nestlé products and to avoid products that actively use palm oil. I'm not sure if it has a product page for avoiding Chinese manufacturers but might be worth you looking into it?

Oh god can you imagine if nestle did vaccines!

So the weekend just gone saw me having to wear a face covering for the first time, and being honest, I didn't like it. I got used to wearing it fairly quickly, though the disposable ones kept on slipping down my face - or at least it felt like they wouldn't stay still over my nose. The issue for me wasn't the fact I was wearing one. It more lay with the period after wearing it. Feeling like I still had something over my nose and mouth for at least ten minutes after removing it wasn't pleasant, and I thought I was going to end up having a panic attack. Not fun. Maybe I'm still going through the process of getting used to it - I dunno. I'm sort of OK with wearing them now, but I still think I'm probably better off trying to avoid situations where I have to wear them as much as I can. It's gonna take a lot of work to get over this psychological barrier.

I've gotten past the point where it causes a panicky reaction but still haven't got to the point where I can reliably speak with one on, I would probably get there eventually if verbal speech was a priority for me (it's not)
It's a lot of effort but just remember your contributing towards this situation not escalating out of control again.

Given my job requires talking to people all the time, I simply can't afford the issues associated with going non-verbal. Whilst my managers are very understanding of my issues, customers may not be quite as understanding, and there could be a number of problems regardless of any measures put in place. Thankfully, I still haven't encountered any problems with not wearing a face covering at work, but I'm still prepared in the unlikely event that someone does take issue with it and doesn't accept my perfectly legitimate explanation.

Would be interested in seeing this app please. I have been trying to source goods made in countries except China way before this covid pandemic as I am fed up pumping money into a country which is basically going to be an adversary to us and the West, Most of the money they get goes to the military and their aggressive stance towards the west at the moment shows how "friendly" they are. Not to mention I disprove giving money to a country with a human rights record such as theirs.

Plus with Brexit now, I would much rather pay a bit more and get as many goods made in the UK that I can to support local businesses and jobs. Even EU goods I would rather purchase right now. I think if anything this pandemic has shown we need to move away from our dependence on Chinese goods. Granted at the moment a lot of stuff is made there, but the more people who try to source stuff made elsewhere the more companies will adapt. Look at call centres, people stopped doing business with companies with foreign call centres and companies started bringing their centres back in to the UK and EU.

Realistically all you can do is explain and if they get argumentative follow normal procedures for customers getting argumentative isn't it.

Pretty much, yeah. We've got colleague-worn cameras available at petrol now just in case anything happens, but nothing has for a while when I've been on. We've also started selling alcohol within the past couple of weeks, so there's another potential source of conflict, but nothing's happened yet. I don't think I've ever ended up going non-verbal over anything, but this is the one thing that's making me more worried about it than anything else, so I'm just trying to do what I can to prevent that from happening, as unlikely as it probably is.

According to BBC News, there should be little delay between a COVID vaccine being found and one being administered to the general population, as the government is reportedly devising a plan to vaccinate a lot of people in very little time, as well as trying to find a way of bypassing some of the red tape surrounding vaccine approval: https://apple.news/AplpN2xd-R-WzUHkPZA-CAw

Interesting stuff! Hopefully one of the candidates currently in phase 3 trials will be found to be effective, so that we can get back to normality before too long!

https://www.buycott.com

If you go to the website on your device it should allow you to download the Android or iOS version. You can use your phones camera to scan the barcode or lookup items and it will tell you if it contravenes your selected campaigns. (Anti Nestlé, don't buy trump products or end animal bursting, etc...)

If you believe anything that Boris say's, we should be back to normal for Christmas. Going by what the scientist are saying, the best case scenario could be a vaccine by the end of next year and anything between 2 to 4 years before we are back to normal. Vaccine candidates usually have around 7% success rate. We still might not get a workable vaccine.

In addition, the consultation - which seeks to amend the Human Medicine Regulations 2012 - will look into ways to protect companies that manufacture and distribute the vaccine, should it cause any harm.

This is to prevent them from bearing the risk caused by decisions made by government to roll out unlicensed vaccines, in order to protect the health of the public.

Looks like we are vaccinated at our own risk

I don’t think they meant that to be a best case scenario. Chris Whitty even admitted that his guess of “reasonable chance of a vaccine by winter 2021-22, but very small chance of vaccine by winter 2020-21” may end up being a pessimistic statement due to the technology and money being thrown at it; as he said, “many are working to make that a pessimistic statement, and I hope they succeed”.

Ah yeah the Protest that had David Ike and Chico as the headline speakers. Jaysus really scraping the barrel now but unfortunately the gullible have been sucked into the hoax theory’s via fear mongering by the like of David Ike. They say the media is fear mongering us to believe in the pandemic but surely the likes of David Ike are doing the same but by saying it’s a hoax.

I would love a hoax saying David Ike uses subliminal messages in his YouTube videos, to brain wash the poor so they die and the savings in UC payment can be used for under table deals.
