Ah gotcha, fair enough my mistake :) .

Have we confirmed that the rules are generally confusing and open to interpretation? Like what constitutes an official community event? Permission from the local parish/ward/council?

From https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51506729

Some gatherings of more than six people will be allowed, for example:

  • If your household or support bubble is larger than six
  • Where gatherings are for work or education purposes
  • Weddings and funerals
  • Team sports organised in a way limiting the spread of coronavirus

Community events that aren't work or education don't seem to be mentioned in the news. You will likely have to wait for the goverment documents to come out next week, but you may not be allowed to hold anything that isn't education/work or team sport.

Sorry I haven’t followed the news much since I been back to work since mid May so didn’t know that the 6 people rule was in place. Just goes to show many ain’t following it. I’m surprised they haven’t told businesses that they have to provide masks for workers who can’t keep a distance at work. I have to help the trainees at my work so I’m standing next to them at times.

Theoretically businesses already have to provide masks if they are needed due to existing health and safety at work requirements which basically amount to "make it safe"

What rule did you think was in place for social gatherings?

At work it is up to the workplace to carry out a risk assessment and determine what is required. If you cannot work at least 2m apart then I would expect the risk assessment should state the other control methods required (face covering, face shield, Perspex screen are all options). The government wants businesses to do the right thing for their circumstances, rather than mandate masks that might not be correct in all situations.

If we had conditions imposed on us like we did in the wars, this country would disintegrate.

People struggle to wear a mask for a quick shop without throwing arms up in the air. Jesus, what have we come to.

I have bad asthma, a mask could potentially suffocate me, put me into deadly asthma attack, yet I still wear a mask for short times because I realise the importance.

So I'm sorry, I don't buy all these excuses of 'they hurt me' or 'I have this or that'.

Mind over matter. Most people who claim 'exempt' conditions, in reality have conditions that are not going to potentially seriously harm them if they were to wear a mask. Whereas athsma carrys a very real risk, yet myself and many others crack on just fine.

Simple, if you don't want to wear a mask for whatever reason, you shouldn't be allowed in shops, end of.

The sooner this is over the better for everyone, and by not wearing masks you are potentially prolonging this.

Back in the war, people were forced to leave their homes and family to go fight in dangerous and deadly conditions of which the odds were they would not return. Fast forward to 2020 and people won't wear a simple mask for short period. My God.

As the government bans social gatherings of more than 6 people due to Covid measures, the Lib Dems remain the only political party that can still all meet up for events and campaigns :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

UKIP will probably be fine too, so long as they stick to meetings in pubs.

Above @RoyJess said about staff in hospital wearing this gear for 8 to 12 hours. Yes, i have done that.(for an hour)

Good news; AstraZeneca’s vaccine trial has been given permission to resume following an independent investigation into the participant who fell ill: https://apple.news/AKPsUbh8gTJK9agXpclCKpA

I can only presume that the illness was non-vaccine related if the trial has resumed.

AstraZeneca’s CEO is still confident that they could have the vaccine ready for use by the end of 2020 if all goes well.

That's wonderful. In a few months time we'll all have been vaccinated, life will be completely back to normal and we can pretend we're not an extra half a trillion pounds in debt. Good times.

I think it’ll likely take a good few months to vaccinate everyone (or at least, a sufficient amount to either bring about herd immunity or ease the burden on healthcare), but by the middle of next year, I’d say (or at least hope) that we should be back to some kind of normality. If we’re not back to normal by mid-2021, I’d at least guess that we’ll have a better idea of when normality will return and the restrictions will be lighter than they are now.

I certainly hope so for the first two points. The Conservatives will either pretend we are not in debt or we will have another four years of austerity.
Really we need 95% vaccination for coronavirus to completely die out. The 5% are those who are too ill to be vaccinated. Annoyingly there are already quite a few campaigns out there trying to persuade people to not take the vaccine.

Nope...economic disaster knows no political boundaries, and £500,000,000,000 is probably an underestimate of the true cost of dealing with the virus.

More like 40 years, if we're lucky. Looking forward to having a poorer quality of life in general in this country for all or most of the rest of our lives to pay for it all. Something to look forward to.

45 minutes ago you were so positive, what's changed?
