Flat Rides: What would you like to see come to the park?

The only way Dark Forest will be fixed is with the removal of Rita.

A steam punk theme of some sort would probably work and be a bit more interesting along with with the addition of those roboarms from the early concepts it would feel like a more coherent area.

Whether Merlin are willing to invest much in the parks at this point is to be seen however...

CAPEX investments in the theme parks were already earmarked to be heavily cut before the pandemic, who knows what their plans are now.

I think Dark forest could fit a flat in still easily, a loosely themed KMG move it 32 would be cool by where UG swinger used to sit.
That seems to tick all the boxes and it looks like an ideal ride for Alton Towers! It seems to have quite a good capacity for a flat ride.
How would you theme it? I think some sort of cursed/possessed tree would work but then we already have one.

To be honest just some branches vines maybe the odd wraith statue I think would do.

What flat rides are major theme parks even installing these days? In the 90's and early 00's it seem to vary a lot however these days most new installations seem to be pendulum style rides mainly. There's obviously the odd exception here and there but you don't see too much variety anymore.

Are major parks just stocked for flat rides (with one obvious exception) or are they all in agreement that a lot of these rides can be more trouble than they're worth? I suspect it's a bit of both.

Not a great lover of flat rides myself but I do really enjoy the giant Pendulum rides though. And sadly that seems impossible for Towers to build due to the height of them. Ripsaw should have been replaced with a brand new model. There was nothing wrong with the type of attraction. It had just aged.

Not really sure where to post this rambling so thought the general thread would be best .

Somehow in true nerd fashion (I wasn’t the one to bring it up mind) ended up talking to another couple about Alton Towers whilst on holiday and they mentioned they prefer Thorpe park as there isn’t any “small rides” at Alton Towers. Using my GP to enthusiast translator I managed to
work out what they meant, it’s all rollercoasters and no flats.

So it seems even the normal paying public know it’s a problem, Alton really need to address it.

I dont know why alton towers seems to be ignoring the problem, and only temporarily fixing it with funfair attractions. At least it was marketed really damn well.

You could try the Retrosquad forum if you want to talk about flat rides and Alton Towers.

I can't name any small ride at thorpe apart from Flying fish. They have absolutely nothing to offer for younger people and families.
Looking at the post, I think they meant flat rides in general.

In fairness, Thorpe does have a lot more filler rides than Towers; on average, a day at Thorpe feels more varied than a day at Towers to me.

You missed the part in my part in the post where I said they meant flats!

After asking more questions to work out what they meant, they said that the whole day was spent queuing for rollercoasters and there wasn’t anything to break it up. Im still a mid 20s “youngster”, and so were they, so can assure you there’s no interest in going on high striker or flying fish.

Give us another HUSS Topspin!!! We need ripsaw again, not Funk 'n Flyer!

I don’t usually post GIFs but…

I wouldn’t say no to a Huss Top Spin and a permanent themed Paratrooper ride.

Been thinking about what the GPs reaction would be if they bought back new versions of old flats and I think the main reaction would be, “Oh look! Ripsaw’s back!”

It would certainly be a positive move. Get a Huss topspin, an Enterprise, a Mondial Supernova for the DF (if they still make them?) and for Spinjam’s site, I’m not really sure.

I'd love to see Boneshaker come back! Looks like a really unique flat ride!

Mondial...kinda... still makes them, but they're more intense and altered a bit more, here's what I'm talking about.

Im sure Merlin would have the money for them to make a replica of the old model for a good price.

But for a flat in X-Sector in spinjams place, it's gotta either be this

Or this
