Neither is watching a live concert through your phone, but it seems it's what a lot of people want! If you can rent a GoPro out for £20 a pop, that's free money very quickly. Especially if you can keep the GoPro on for an "extra £20" to ride FP front row with it on. Double ker-ching!Besides, watching a video of someone arse going up steps for 10-15 minutes isn't exactly exciting viewing.

I can think of a couple reasons a go pro may not be used:Don't quite understand why GoPros aren't allowed. If anything, AT should be providing suitable body/helmet mounts. Much safer than a phone as you can't "interact" with a GoPro if it's on your head!
Have used a GoPro for karting, and they provide helmets with secure mounts. They even provide a free GoPro if you buy their over-priced SDHC card. Seems like AT are leaving money on the table!
1. how do you get the footage from the go pro to the user, someone will have to organise and figure that out,
2. technical support would be difficult, you can't have loose items up there, so if a go pro's battery dies, you can't really do anything about it.
3. a more important reason is that these mounts will be new equipment, I am not sure on how AT do equipment safety tests and inspections, but it would be a new piece of equipment that none of the technicians would use, and would probably have to be tracked and all of that stuff, but phone bags can be used for many things, for a similar reason user owned go pro mounts may not be properly inspected
Hmm. Well 1 is easily solved - microSDHC card for £2 that the customer can keep. 2 is solved because you don't have that many people per VIP experience, so if they are charged at the start of the day. As for 3, if they are supplying the body or helmet mounts they can control the safety. Safer than phone pouches IMHO.

At work we had a hell of a time and ultimately failed to get Insta360s approved for use with vehicle mounts. Helmet mounts, yes. Vehicles, no. Usage of GoPro/Insta360s on an operating ride with anyone present except tech services sounds like a nightmare.

whilst it may seem less safe, the phone pouches would probably have been used by tech services (or objects like them) for years, and getting camera mounts approved can be difficult, depending on how the safety system is set up, but they will probably want some standards agency to have approved the camera mount is safe.Hmm. The app has been updated again and it looks like Th13teen has now been added to the map. It was probably touch and go with the maintenance being ready for the buy out days. Still no Hex or Go Set Go but at least all the coasters look to be open now excluding forbidden valley.
I wonder what the sky ride opening will look like. Will there be an announcement or will they just act like it hasn't been closed for 2 years and just open it for the start of the season. It doesn't look like it will be open on the buy out days but I'm not sure if we expected it to be.

I wasn't expecting it to be open (why go all the way over the FV if it is closed, probably also draw too many eyes / cameras to toxicator)I wonder what the sky ride opening will look like. we did get an announcement a few weeks before the pirates take over with a video and press briefing:
Towers just posted a video on their YouTube channel of the Skyride testing;
From: https://youtube.com/shorts/0WbwEuGKEMo?si=Aav0xb8sF76ju2eX
Press release:
The iconic Skyride is soaring through testing as part of a multi-million-pound investment!
As Alton Towers Resort embarks on a multi-million pound investment into the iconic Skyride attraction, we are excited to see the gondolas moving again.
Specialist teams have been carrying out extensive work behind the scenes to preserve the charm of the Skyride, ensuring it remains a beloved feature of the park for generations to come.
A true piece of Alton Towers Resort history, the Skyride has whisked millions of visitors across the park since 1987, offering breathtaking views and unforgettable experiences.
Still quite surreal to think the rides will be operating again this week. May be different for some of you guys but me personally this closed season has gone really quick. Makes you realise how much you miss it when the park opens again. Will be interesting to see what these buy out days will be like operations wise. Will Rita Th13teen and Wicker all be on 1 train, will they be on 2. Who knows at this point

They might be operating, they might be closed for hours. It’s anyones guess

Not so great news is Hex doesn’t open for the start of the season, it barely operated a month last year. So surely it shouldn’t have needed much winter maintenance.

Do we know for a fact it’s not opening for the start of the season? Hex, that is

No, just that it’s not showing on the app when the other rides have all been added.Do we know for a fact it’s not opening for the start of the season? Hex, that is

Maybe it’s just the buyout days it won’t be open for. CRR and FV likely to be added on in the week leading up to the season, wonder if they decided to tweak the lighting and don’t want it ruined/spoiled until the season starts. Just guesswork of courseNo, just that it’s not showing on the app when the other rides have all been added.

Skyride will be because due to its closure length no one on park will be signed off to operate it anymore so they need Poma to come in and do the training.
Hex who knows, I got the feeling it’s opening last year was bodged, hence why it was so late in the season as they didn’t think it would survive more than a month. God knows if they have gone back and done more work to it this closed season or not.

The maintenance work they did definitely wasn't bodged, it was on the previous occasions when it had to keep closing. It was a full repair with Vekoma. It just might not be open on the buyout days, there might be nothing more to it than that.

There's no excuse for the SkyRide not being ready for the start of the season in my opinion. They've had years to refurbish it and ensure that staff are trained on the thing, we know it's operational from the testing videos that the park have released, and so what reason could they have for not opening it with the park at the start of the season?
I have no reason to believe that Hex won't be open for the start of the season. It had a full refurbishment by the ride manufacturer last season. I'd say it's just a staffing issue as to why it isn't opening for the buyout days.

If the training that is reported to be currently carried out is by Poma then it could just be a simple case of them not being available until now to do it; tie that in with when staff start their employment for this season and you have quite a small window for training. Don't forget this training won't just be how to run it day to day but also may involve the evac procedures from the gondolas while out on the cables - this could involve other external training companies (I genuinely don't know) so again it could just be down to timing of when the trainers are available. There's no excuse for the SkyRide not being ready for the start of the season in my opinion.
