2025: General Discussion

Besides, watching a video of someone arse going up steps for 10-15 minutes isn't exactly exciting viewing.
Neither is watching a live concert through your phone, but it seems it's what a lot of people want! If you can rent a GoPro out for £20 a pop, that's free money very quickly. Especially if you can keep the GoPro on for an "extra £20" to ride FP front row with it on. Double ker-ching!

Don't quite understand why GoPros aren't allowed. If anything, AT should be providing suitable body/helmet mounts. Much safer than a phone as you can't "interact" with a GoPro if it's on your head!

Have used a GoPro for karting, and they provide helmets with secure mounts. They even provide a free GoPro if you buy their over-priced SDHC card. Seems like AT are leaving money on the table!
I can think of a couple reasons a go pro may not be used:

1. how do you get the footage from the go pro to the user, someone will have to organise and figure that out,

2. technical support would be difficult, you can't have loose items up there, so if a go pro's battery dies, you can't really do anything about it.

3. a more important reason is that these mounts will be new equipment, I am not sure on how AT do equipment safety tests and inspections, but it would be a new piece of equipment that none of the technicians would use, and would probably have to be tracked and all of that stuff, but phone bags can be used for many things, for a similar reason user owned go pro mounts may not be properly inspected

Hmm. Well 1 is easily solved - microSDHC card for £2 that the customer can keep. 2 is solved because you don't have that many people per VIP experience, so if they are charged at the start of the day. As for 3, if they are supplying the body or helmet mounts they can control the safety. Safer than phone pouches IMHO.

At work we had a hell of a time and ultimately failed to get Insta360s approved for use with vehicle mounts. Helmet mounts, yes. Vehicles, no. Usage of GoPro/Insta360s on an operating ride with anyone present except tech services sounds like a nightmare.

whilst it may seem less safe, the phone pouches would probably have been used by tech services (or objects like them) for years, and getting camera mounts approved can be difficult, depending on how the safety system is set up, but they will probably want some standards agency to have approved the camera mount is safe.
