Cedar Point - Goodbye Disaster Transport, Hello Gatekeeper

Cedar Point have released an official video!

It does seem to die at the end but the length of this coaster for me makes it the best looking winged coaster so far in terms of the layout only. It's just a shame it's not themed.

:)

Wish Alton would make a video like this for SW7. It would raise public perception and awareness more than keeping it all secret until the last moment.

But then it would just be, well, W7! ;)

They could still preserve the world's first section, which is what it is kept secret for. Just edit a moment into the video where it goes blank whilst the section is gone through and then continue as normal after. It would generate so much publicity with people trying to guess what it is and so on.

That video is so annoying, just show us a damn POV!

What's the software they use to make those videos? Looks like specific software for rollercoaster design, like a really advanced NoLimits. Would love to have a play with that.

It'd done using 3d Studio Max by this guy: http://www.3dvip.com/

As for the POV... Here ya go!

Typical CP going for "tallest, fastest, longest", I always find it funny that their non-record breaker (Maverick) is arguably their highest coaster among enthusiasts. I really hope another park comes up and builds a bigger one just out of spite. :p

Coaster looks pretty good though, even though it dies after the double gate-miss (which looks AWESOME by the way). This one looks like one of their better additions though, even though they have so many coasters, I've got to be honest, aside from Maverick, TTD, Magnum and this, none of them really appeal to me.

Most of Cedar Point's rides are a bit rubbish tbh (Both the current B&Ms especially)...

Wicked Twister is good though, that's worthwhile...

Maverick, Millenium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum 200-XL. Name one British park that wouldnt take any single one of them let alone all 4. As for the B&Ms Raptor is superb, although Mantis is (being a standup) is a bit rubbish. Even Blue Streak beats Big Dipper at Blackpool.

I have to agree that Wicked Twister is great fun. The rest are pretty meh and Gemini is incredibly poor but name me one park in the universe that wouldnt like a line up of those coasters named in my first paragraph?

Most... How many coasters do they have now? 15?

4/15 (in my own opinion, and being Maverick, TTD, Wicked Twister and maybe Magnum at a push) being exceptionally good rides was my point, the rest of the park is either rubbish (like Gemini, Raptor, Mean Streak, the Mine Train) or incredibly over-rated (Millenium Force)...

Would love it if a UK park got an Intamin Blitz, but we'll never get anything like TTD, so there's no point holding out for that, and even then Maverick bashed my head around because Intamin can't design OTSRs properly...

It seems a common theme in American parks really, throw a lot of rides down which end up being pretty damn forgettable, in a similar vein I wonder how many parks in the world would love to have a line up of Nemesis, Oblivion and Air?

On a completely irrelevant note, I've always thought it would be pretty cool if a TTD-style ride was built next to the Santa Pod raceway so that the ride could race with certain cars on the track!

Anyway, back on topic...

:p

If that ever happens, that would be the only way to tempt me back to that god awful place!
Yeah I'm not into all that stuff..Haha

I'd only seen the video and not seen the 'artist impressions' and questioned the name. Looking at the two near misses which create an archaeological symmetry to the entrance I now understand the name "Gatekeeper" and it's a good name tbh.

Wow...I've never seen a Theme Park attraction being deconstructed like that before!

Hello, We are Cedar Point, as part of our aim to be the most awesome Amusement Park ever, we take a moral objection to hiring a crane to demolish our rides!

And thus we bring you our take on Thorpe Parks not so popular event 'Blow **it Up!'

Here's the official Space Spiral Removal video from the park ;)

Seriously, bizarre!!

All I can really say is, I am glad they made the choice to do this today and not yesterday. Felling a large tower in the early hours of September 11th... Yes, very wise date picking there!

America's fascination with explosions has reached an all new, bizarre height.

Could have been a bit more sensitive with the date as well.

What an awesome way for a ride to go, much better than just dismantling it. :p

But on that date... Someone wasn't thinking.

Perhaps Charlie & the Chocolate Factory should go out with a similar bang? :p

I like how in the second angle you can see that the gondola actually seems to rise up the tower as it completes its fall! :D
