Scarefest 2012

Regarding the Scarefest Countdown Calendar, they may still do this (I really hope) considering last years started when there were 13 days to go which I believe is tomorrow. I hope it is done again this year as it was a simple yet exciting piece of marketing that got me really excited for the Scarefest Season.

Nothing has been put up, it might be some old hoardings stacked up near Goal striker though, i imagine these things get recycled for new decoration.

From Alton Towers' Twitter today:
@altontowers
#Reason4 for visiting #Scarefest - The Carnival of Screams has arrived in town. This year it's much more than being scared of a clown! #COS
Could be nothing but with the strange old Boiler House posters up aswell, sounds like they might be having Boiler House stuff in there too?! :p

From TowersStreet news:

Scarefest News Round-Up

As September draws to a close and we head into the final weeks of the theme park season, excitement builds for the penultimate event in the Alton Towers theme park calendar. Scarefest is but two weeks away and we therefore are taking a look at everything "spooky" in this news-round-up!

Official Website Gets a Spooky Makeover

The official Alton Towers website received its Scarefest makeover today as the stylised Towers where replaced by pumpkins and a countdown appeared at the top of the page. Advertising and promotions are now focusing on Scarefest with pre-booked combination tickets for park entry and Scare Maze tickets available.

Scarefest Saturday on Twitter Talks Top 10

The weekly Scarefest updates from the official Alton Towers Twitter account have continued today counting down the top-10 reasons to visit during Scarefest. Of note is the confirmation that "The Zombie Scarezone" will be located in a different part of the park this year. This new location has been widely rumored to be behind the food outlets in Dark Forest.

Goal Striker Closes to Make Way for Carnival of Screams

As reported previously on TowersStreet, the Goal Striker building was having work done to add new fire escapes to the structure to make it safe for it's new role as the location of one of the two paid Scare-Mazes: The Carnival of Screams. Throughout the work the game remained open to the public, however, the building has now closed to allow work to start on the construction of the scaremaze within. It is believed the Carnival of Screams will make use of the pathway used last year for the Zombie Scarezone for its queue and potentially part of the attraction.

Alton Towers have also tweeted about the Carnival of Screams today, going so far as to suggest that this years incarnation of the attraction will involve much more than just being scared of clowns. This is hopefully reassuring for fans of Scaremazes; many of whom felt last years incarnation was not as successful as it's debut year in 2010

New Scarefest Mobile App Announced

Alton Towers have announced a new mobile app for the Scarefest event. The new app will be full of features to help people maximize their day during the Scarefest event. It is not currently known which handset platforms the App will be available on.

SW7 Marketing Believed to be Hotting Up for Scarefest
As reported a few weeks back a mysterious smiley face has appeared around the resort recently. This strange logo, believed to be related to the SW7 project (and potentially The Sanctuary scaremaze) has been spray-painted throughout the park leading to suggestions that the next phase of the marketing push for the 2013 coaster is underway. Subsequently this logo has also appeared on e-mails sent out to people on the Alton Towers mailing list as well as featured briefly in a Youtube video created by the park.

Scarefest is frequently the time of the year Alton Towers step up marketing for the next years season to capitalise on the large number of guests coming both for Scarefest and the parks Ultimate Fireworks season finale. So keep your eye on TowersStreet.com and our Facebook and Twitter pages to keep up-to-date with news as it happens and don't forget to join the discussion on our popular Talk forums.

Hmm last years Zombie Scare Zone, it looks like something is being constructed at the far end the goal kick building. maybe something circussy (peeked in the building and they are doing lots of construction in there.

ball pit balls? and more. What could this mean

At the other end of the tunnel is.. an evil haunted van delivering lots of red cloth, you can see some below the van!!!!

scaffolding has been removed from the front of the towers. Also a bit odd.

For those of you yelling at the screen shouting, so what about the area behind dark forrest..

Certainly looks like they are extending the available space for Carnival ontop of the Goal Striker tent. Also glad the scaffolding can come down from infont of the Towers as even though they mucked up the lighting for the rest of the park last year the Towers looked great and the scaffolding would spoil it.

Anyone know if they are doing late entry tickets? A friend has said she wants to go after 4pm and wondered if they are doing a reduced price?

I would think they would offer cheaper tickets after 4 0'clock, I can't see them chargeing £45 pp, but you never know with merlin

These have been available for the last 2 years for Scarefest & the first night of the fireworks, during the non half-term week.

Given that most of Scarefest will be in a half-term period I'm not sure if these will be available this year...

just noticed something. if you stand and drool over the website for long enough, the screen blacks out and the weird smiley face thing flashes up on the screen. anyone else seen this? its fab marketing!

For the most amazing Scarefest experience, be sure to add on Maze tickets to your Theme Park tickets, you can book them online at the best price before 6th October!

This is now the 3rd time the price increase has been put back...

I cannot see them upping the prices much at all.

They were £12 last season and much more is just ghastly for a total of 15 minutes entertainment!

The £9 I've paid is about right to be honest. Cheaper than previous years and of course compared to some places, reasonable haha

Scarefest 2012 means how much I can spend at towers :-
New merlin annual pass,
Freedom pass,
Several trips,
And stopping on resort
I love October at Alton towers !!! :)

Not much to report from park yesterday really. The goalstriker building is all closed with signage removed, but you cant see much more around there. Also no sign of zombie scarezone on park yet.

After speaking to someone on park yesterday, they said this years mazes are going to be better than before, longer and more scary! He says all three are going to be great!

They were also continueing to put up the new LED lights near the rapids, replacing the old green/blue lights they have had for the past few years.

Also the haunted hollow is closed, for the installing of new lights from what we can gather.

Does anyone know if the over the path lights are appearing again?
I think increasing the LED lights across path is a fantastic idea for the park, as the LED's in them should last a good 20 or so years, and eventually some could be installed on a permanent basis.

Hey, perhaps this will be the year those generators and flood lights dont actually appear! :D

They have installed lots of LED globes over the paths from Katanga to Gloomy and over the farm, maybe potential for changing colours.

As far as I know, both the Sanctuary and Carnival of Screams will be longer/more substantial than the Boiler House and Carnival of Screams in 2011.

I think they feel this is necessary, as for guests paying good money - the fact that neither of the paid mazes were as good as Terror of the Towers last year, left a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth.

:)
