I must say I'm not really a big fan of the black track on SW7. As far to my knowledge it's been used on every coaster added to Alton and Thorpe since Merlin took over. It was fine on Saw but since then it's been overused, Merlin please pick a different colour! I know it fits but I would like to see a different colour for the next major coaster at Alton or Thorpe

Hi,
new member here but seeing as I saw the colour mentioned I thought I'd have some input.
I posted this photos over on TTF months ago, its a sample of RAL7021 that I did at work.

Not sure if anyone will be interested, but thanks.

You say this though, but were SW7 in any colour other than black I'm sure we'd all be moaning that it doesn't look 'right' for X-Sector.

Photos from today!

Track track and even more track (oh and some supports):

New track! Now in bi-track format:

Supports anyone?

Any guesses?

A rather tight turn:

Twisty:

It's almost straight, but not quite:

There must be some more room in there somewhere!

As always, there are plenty more on the Towers Street Facebook page

Lift hill support is my guess....

Edit: I'm sifting through plan photos and track delivery updates and it's confusing me to say the least.

Can someone explain the square/rectangular connections to me?? Am I right in thinking the round 1's are for track to track joints and the straight edged joints are for track to supports/ground connections....

That's probably because the plans aren't going to be correct! ;)

The square joints are the ones that will connect to the track. Then the round ones will connect to either the footers in the ground or other that supports. Hope that helps!

:)

From what I can work out from looking at the track and photos of Saw. The light gray bit will go in the ground and concreated in. The square bits with four holes will connect to the track and the round bits with lots of holes will connect to other supports.

As shown in this photo of Saw:

Something I've wondered for a while is why do Gerst supports go into the concrete pipes and get filled to cement them in? Is it simply cheaper than putting bolts in the concrete and attaching the support that way?

Lol, I still firmly believe you see what you get.... We should see soon enough though.

Me too..... It's incredibly annoying too because I think the finished look is awful.

I don't think that the exact colour of the track is all that important, I think what is though is having that distinct colour scheme within the area. Originally we had the dark, grey/black coloured imposing Oblivion track dropping vertically into the ground through the white mist, surrounded by shiny metal fences with clean, beige concrete. The addition of the burnt orange gave the whole thing a rather cool edge. It was all very clean cut.

Fast forward to 2012 and all I am seeing is a dirge of greyness - what is their solution? Oh yes, paint everything possible in bright orange in a cheap revitalisation attempt.

Or the demon FANTA advertising !!! What a joke that was !!!!! I can still see hints of it around oblivion !!! Grrrrrrr :'(

Even if there is a significant alteration to the layout on the plans (although personally, I think feel the plans will be largely accurate) judging by the tightness of some of that track its going to pack a punch.

As everyone can see we have a new sub-forum for all future projects that have been confirmed by the park (either via planning permission or press-release/ other good source).

We have also decided to split the SW7 topic into SW7 the ride and X-Sector developments, this is so people can find discussion they are looking for a lot easier. The new topic can be found here

Thanks :D

Unless something has changed very recently no-one has been on site from the enthusiast community, TT have chartered a plane/ Helicopter to fly over the site but they haven't released anything yet.

The last we have are photo's of more track delivered to the car-parks about 2 days ago.

No pictures, but the whole area was flood lit around 10pm last night. So I'm assuming either they just left the lights on or work is carrying on until late each day. Couldn't see much through the trees though.

Does anyone know the actual work stipulations from the planning documents? I know that they cannot work on Sundays but I wondered if near-enough 24 hour work was permitted on other days?

They are working early and late. I believe they are also able to work some hours on Sunday.

It is all part of the revised schedule to ensure ride unveiling on March 16th.

I presume they re-negotiated hours then due to delays as I was fairly sure Sundays were designated as 'no work days'? It's good to see a plan is in place to get the work done on time though.

I would think they would like to get as much done as they can before the area starts iceing over
