2014: Arthur in the Minimoys kingdom

Was going to Vote this as my favourite topic for 2013, but did not realise this thread has been here since 2012. Its strange, because although the thread has been here nearly 18 months, it feels like a lot less.

I think I am more excited about this, than when the Smiler was due to open.

There are some info bits from a q&a session with Miro Gronau and Michael Mack at the winter fan meeting 4.1.2014:

- 2015 will be a quiet year
- An old attraction will be refurbished soon
- The budget for maintenance and improvement during the off season is € 6,000,000.00
- The park will remain seasonal in the next few years (no year-round opening)
- A water attraction is planned (not the water park I guess)
- At the moment the new Drop´n Splash from Mack Rides (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sxc0ab8C5Do) will not come to the park
- A small playground near the lake restaurant (Seerestaurant) is planned
- 2015 the magic cinema will feature a new movie with Euromaus and friends
- Arthur will have a continuously moving entry in the station
- There won't be a toilet or shop in the queue for Arthur like it is in the queue for Wodan because there is not enough space

After Arthur this year it's not really that surprising...

That said, I'm sure they'll pull something out of a hat to big up the celebrations...

That all but confirms a EuroSat refurbishment for 2015.

On their anniversary years, if they don't do something big, they do something mid-budget but linked to the history of the park. Historama on the 35th, for example.

Refurbishing EuroSat wouldn't be a 'big' investment for EP standards, would fit with the history of the park, would commemorate the 40th nicely with a refurb of their first major ride, and would fit with the "An old attraction will be refurbished soon"

ep-fans.info's official report of the fan meeting, with video, is now online. Google Translate provides the following summaries of the questions asked in each video segment:

I know it's a MASSIVE ask, but can any German speaks give us a translation of everything said, for each question? Not word for word, but if you could just give us a summary of each answer, that'd be beyond amazing. I'm sure a lot of people are VERY curious about the question regarding the future of the Vogel Show! :)

Lovely new short video from Europa-Park today, showing off the theme park from height using their brilliant flying camera, which I have seen being used before. I also notice a new variation on the EP Suite (music) during the video... perhaps for Arthur 2014?

Hopefully a few of you will remember me posting the plans by the town of Rust to build a new community observation tower in the village. It's not confirmed, but it's presumably being at least partly funded by EP.

We now have an opening date, 1st March, as this update in the Badische-Zeitung helpfully informs us!

Also, in other news, Roland has been made an honorary citizen of Rust for some reason. Franz became an honorary citizen 13 years ago. :)

Roland Mack biography is out soon, sadly only in German:

Shockingly, as EPRust have revealed in this 1979 guide for Europa-Park, the May to September standard opening hours were LONGER then than they are now, with 9-7pm the benchmark! Obviously, the park is often open till 7pm (or later) as they extend frequently, but it is an interesting observation nonetheless:

Video from some fans which aimed to get round all the rides at EP (that adults can ride) within one day. They *just* managed it; by 7pm (extended ride close). The queues, as you can see from the video, only went over 15 minutes once (Wodan: 30 minutes), with most under 5.

Just shows how enormous the park is:

Well the benchmark has been set, and I hereby challenge someone attending the junket to beat that time.

I reckon it would be very difficult. You'd have to ensure that rides like M. Blitz which obtain queues were done early on, and the middle of the day would be rides like Circus Parade or Marionetten Bootsfahrt.

2014: New Information Centre

Work has begun a new Information centre at the main entrance. The existing toilets will be integrated into the centre:

Next step up from doing all the rides in a day is adding shows into the mix...

I would reckon this is impossible in one day unless every ride was entirely walk on, all day.

Completing all timetabled shows would be at least 4 hours out your day.

Do they still hold the Miss Germany contest at EP? And if so, when are we going? :D

Can't really think off anything better you can smoke in bars, amazing theme park, amazing bars and miss Germany

An article about the planting that is going to be done to cover the walls and roof of the Arthur ride building, translated by Google from German:

PART OF THE PROJECT MINIMOYS: Europa Park is a green island in the vertical

A "green island in the Verikalen" arises in the Europa-Park until the summer season. It is part of the new attraction "Arthur in the Kingdom of the Minimoys." Planner is Jürgen Sedler, head of the Europa-Park Nursery

RUST. "Mur Vegetal" is what the French botanist and artist Patrick Blanc's garden green facades. One of his most fascinating works by "vertical gardens" is the Dussmann in Berlin, at the 270-square-meter façade and tendrils bloom more than 6000 tropical plants. The work of art in the Berlin Friedrichstraße is only one of the models for the new projects from the "green forging" of the Europa Park. The Europa-Park Nursery will transform the 450-square-foot exterior facade of the "Kingdom of the Minimoys" into a "green island in the vertical."

In the know-how of the French nursery is also CEO Juergen Sedler: "In the implementation, we work closely with specialists from France together the world have the most experience.." This sounds logical because the new field of "Arthur - In The Kingdom Of Invisibles" is a cooperation of the Europa Park with the renowned French director Luc Besson and the previously most expensive, largest and most expensive indoor project the entrepreneur Mack family.

But while to April an art world will be built in the interior of the resulting on 3500 square meter attraction, Jürgen Sedler and his team at the outer shell will provide you with vertical walls and the dome the creative response in green. "In principle, the whole thing is like a green roof. But this known system is actually applicable only to the dome., But for the vertical wall and this huge area, it is not good," said Sedler.Eine facade greenery with climbing plants such as is found from city - and country houses or on a larger scale also knows of castles, were not an option for the Europa-Park project. "We are talking of one to twelve meters high vertical facade that already is to enable the first visitors in the new themed area as a green wonder in amazement itself. To visually to get with climbing plants the effect of a closed green area, it took years. The Europa-Park has since another claim, "explains Sedler.Auf an excursion Sedler was finally pushed in Strasbourg to a technique for facade greening. That was about two years ago, when it was searched for in the creative department of the Europa-Park nursery yet for solutions to greening the exterior of the new attraction. The principle sounds simple first of all. At the perpendicular towering outer skin of the building a kind of grid structure is attached, the large bales substrate serves as a support system for a modular system of 100x50 cm. In this vertical substrate bales then the perennials and grasses are planted. "The planting we will choose so that we will have a colorful picture in the flowering times and will appear in the winter time the wall in a lush green," said Sedler. Currently in the greenhouses of supplier horticulture are drawn to the 6000 plants for the project.

But sticking points in the project was not the choice of plants. Substrate for the bales one specially developed soil granules, very good moisture hoarding. "On two problems we have but fiddled particularly long. Single put the support structure on the exterior special demands on the statics of the entire building. For our civil engineers, this was a difficult story, after all, belongs to the complex yes, the roller coaster," said Sedler. The nut that had to crack the nursery boss, the irrigation system was: "The system has to work both at minus 15 degrees Celsius and in scorching heat in the summer And finally, the irrigation must be a self-contained cycle, because in the irrigation use. we fertilizers, which may not reach the groundwater or into Junkerbächle. " The green wall is irrigated now has a system of drip irrigation system that works solely via gravity. Thus, no water remains in the complex tube network, so it can not come to the freezing of the line network, even in winter. At the bottom of the residual liquid is collected and returned to first-level gepumpt.Doch enters not only with the vertical garden with irrigation system, Europa-Park territory. This applies also in the park for another reason as an ecological project for the future. Because the entire structure is at the same time a pilot project for thermal insulation and shading buildings. "We expect that we can save considerable energy with this system, so we can use the experience then both existing buildings within the park as well as new projects, such as the water park," says Sedler.Noch but is the future. Currently arises Sedler other tasks. In addition to the renovation of the park from winter to summer mode waiting for him still a logistical masterpiece. The planting of the substrate pads. Jürgen Sedler: "This will be done directly on the wall and, as always, is the time frame for the introduction of the 6,000 plants not huge, but such tasks we have become accustomed, when the park opens for the summer season, we will be done How to... each season. "
