But if the Skyride opened at 0945 it would really help move people over to the backs of the park and spread the crowds out.
Yeah I agree with that. Could hop straight to FV or DF and start from there without doing much walking. :)

I don't need to. Everyone has different viewpoints and perspectives for a reason. Not 2 people will think alike

You were asking "why on earth?" people would chose a long WM queue over a short one elsewhere, that their behaviour lacked logic, but you are judging their behaviour based on your knowledge, not theirs. You would know the answer to the question you asked if you considered the reasons for those different viewpoints.

A lack of empathy is not a positive personality trait and won't help you understand the world.

Known to you for having those queues, because you are on a forum like this. 99.9% of visitors would not know this. Most people, without knowing the patterns of these things, would look at that queue and think its only going to get even bigger as the park gets busier so best do it now. It's quite a logical thought process even if it is ultimately incorrect.

You really have difficulty viewing the world from other peoples perspective, don't you?
Plus they may have heard about when it was super unreliable so used that to say go asap whilst it's working.

I was just basing it on guests having the app. If people have the app and see a long queue and a short queue, you'd go for the shorter one. Unless if people don't have the app then they will have no way of knowing queue times before arriving at the ride

Even the app on opening won't reflect the times at all, they all start on 0/5 mins and don't catch up instantly to hundreds of people all going to the same place at once.

If you haven't visited the park in several years you would pick the rides newest to you. Why ride Nemesis and Air that you did 15 years ago (for example) when you haven't ever done Wickerman and Smiler. There are all sorts of reasons people might pick certain rides or queues.
What bugs me more is the people who don't commit, the come back saying "all the queues were two hours long so we didn't ride anything" whereas if you joined those two hour queues, you'd probably get on at least 3-4 rides during the day!

If nemesis is on five minute queue on the app, people often walk half way across the park to discover the queue is now sixty minutes because everyone has seen nemesis is on a five minute queue on the app.
It happens.
That's why it's a good idea to keep checking the app, and have a backup plan in case the queue is too big when you get there.

Great to see that the Retrosquad rides now have photos on the app! :)

Provided you got into the park early last season you could queue up for Wickerman wait for it to open, after that then head to Dark Forest and get on Rita and 13 before it was 11am. Then Hex and an early lunch in Woodcutters (thus beating another queue for food).

The beauty of a park like Alton is there's no 'right' way to go about things, you could just as easily run to Forbidden Valley and ride Nemesis for a good 30+ minutes before it builds a queue (used to be great back in the ert days as regular park guests wouldn't even get to the area until about half 10).

I find that my personal favourite strategy is to start in Dark Forest; we did that on our most recent visit, and we got a walk-on queue for Rita and a 15-20 minute queue for Thirteen, so we nailed 2 of the big 7 within the first hour of our day!

This turned out to be a helpful strategy for ride count for us, because both rides had queues exceeding 1 hour later on...

I think Forbidden Valley would work similarly well, but the Dark Forest rides generally have lower throughputs, so it takes less people to make those queues long. I find that Rita & Thirteen can often build up quite a queue later in the day (often over an hour, close to 2 hours), whereas Nemesis & Galactica generally aren’t ever particularly long for the most part (relatively speaking, of course; they’re still usually at least 30 minutes).

But each to their own, I suppose! Everyone has different ways that they like to go about enjoying their day, and one of the beauties of Alton Towers (or any theme park, for that matter) is that there’s no right or wrong way to navigate the park and enjoy your day!

Personally I like to start my day nice and early on The Smiler before it has a queue, skip Oblivion for now as it’s usually walk on later in the day and head over to do Th13teen & Rita (in that order) both without queues, and then trek to Galactica & Nemesis which normally for me have under 10 minute queues at this time. That’s 5 coasters done by around 11am ish usually.

If you get to the park before opening I really don’t understand the general consensus of heading to FV first. I find it to be very counter productive unless you don’t want to ride coasters like Smiler & Th13teen.

God I miss the days where we didn't plan our days and live our lives through an app.
Completely agree, much of my first day at Cedar Point was spent looking at the app and you miss a lot of what's going on around you.

Besides, Alton Towers is far too big to follow the shorter queues around all day.

Also remember that with Thirteen requiring a minimum number of riders, you might have to wait a few minutes for other guests if you get there first at park opening. Staff may ride with you but they might not do that at the moment due to Covid.

We usually start at spinball getting there before it opens...then oblivion,rita,13,hex....across the gardens to nemesis,galactica...duel,rapids...all done by 1-130 and then its brave the queues for wickerman and smiler or filler stuff depending how we're feeling

Obviously will be different at the moment with no hex/duel but there the 3 fairgrounds...i'll find out sunday and monday

Sorry if it’s been raised previously. Has anyone else noticed how tight the lapbar is on funknfly ride on you legs. I have a large beer belly which wasn’t a problem for locking the bar in, it was the downward pressure on my thighs which was uncomfortable.

Happy for any fat shaming comments

Does anyone think this is real? Surely Rita's trains need the zero car as the catch car hooks onto it?
