[2024] Thorpe Park: Hyperia - Mack Hypercoaster

Hyperia will remain closed today (4/8)

Due to unforseen circumstances.

Source MAP group, there is a photo shared that shows the electronic board at the turnstiles with the closure information.
There’s nothing about this on the ride availability page (the only listing for Hyperia is the usual “there may be a delay to opening each day”), so hopefully it’s only closed for the one day this time.

Earlier today, an engineer threw up a rope and climbed it, indicating that some sort of structural inspection was performed:

There was a story spreading on Twitter that a crack had been found, but this was later proven to be false, as said “crack” was actually a speck of dirt that has been on that support since at least April…

Anyway, there’s a suggestion on Twitter from someone at the park that it’s just started testing, so whatever caused the closure can’t have been that bad if this is true:

Well apparently it opened half an hour ago with a 180 minute queue! This still sits at 150 minutes now, just 12 minutes before ride close!

I do not envy the staff working on Hyperia today... at least Thorpe Park managed to get the ride open today, however!

That's a shame. Imagine the statement, "We have just been looking at the crack on our golden goddess".

Nevermind that. They need to sort out the baron wasteland around the ride area. Is that what JB is putting his name to?

Anything that is worth putting your name to on this attraction was created by MACK and not Merlin.

Gotta stroke those egos though I guess.

Just ridden this for the first time at last. Whilst the ride is great (the inverted stall being the highlight), it's abysmally short and pretty much everything else about it is subpar. Ride area looks like Poundland Icon - just a collection of tiny, dead trees, cheap ugly bent fencing and landscape bark. Deafening lift hill motor 2ft from the queue. Completely inadequate capacity for a ride of this scale - desperately needed a block or a separate offload. Station building is a glorified shed.

Sad sight really. I'm sure it will pull in the punters though which is all they ultimately care about!

Just so glad that Merlin, John Burton and his team put more effort than this into Nemesis Reborn
