Flamingo Land: General Discussion

From Flamingo Land's Facebook:

The first piece of our new ride 'Hero' has arrived!

Just had a look on CoasterForce and they linked to an image of the supports for Hero as well (apparently from Flamingo Land's Twitter):

And finally some artwork from Zamperla for the Twistosaurus cars:

I quite like the colour scheme for Hero and the Twistosaurus cars look good too! :)

But it doesn't matter because at least Flamingoland are investing and have been constantly over the last few years etc, etc...

As much as they might have invested, there's bugger all infrastructure, most of the park looks dire (the entrance in particular), the operations are turd, and the rides they've invested in are absolute turd... It might well be an unique experience and easy to market, but there's plenty of other rides that are GOOD that could produce exactly the same PR...

Hopefully next year they'll build something halfway decent on the old Corkscrew site, if they fudge that up then I'll lose the remaining 9% of my faith in them.

The new cars which look like dinosaur eggs look very promising, but the new flying coaster doesn't excite me very much. Am I the only one that's reminded of this:

Mouse_Trap_Board_and_Boxjpg.jpg

whenever you watch a video of the flying coaster engage the lift hill?

The seats remind me of booths in restaurants...

Other than that, it's good to see Flamingoland adding new rides (even if some aren't too good)...

I know that Flamingoland gets bad press for certain aspects, and indeed in some areas it deserves the negatives. However, after my visit yesterday, I was blown away with the amount of things that have changed since my previous visit (next to last day of the season 2012)

Here is just a brief list detailing some of the changes I saw

Shops extended in Plaza with new glass frontage
New arcade frontage in Plaza to match the above
Animatronic dinos added (I saw 3)
"Hero" coaster construction started (This looks like its being themed to a comic style aliens invading Metropolis and the riders are the Heros battling the aliens)
New pathway being constructed over the Lost River, maybe to a viewing area for the Lions
New Wallaby walkthrough
Scaffolding around the mansion, looks like some TLC is being done
Another new exhibit in Childrens Planet
Speakers added to Navigator and Pteradactyl playing background audio / music (I am sure this is new !!)
Dinostone area being built in place of the driving school
Twistasaurous was operational
Relocation of the Dragon coaster and in the middle of a retheme
The other Zamperla flat was running as well.
"Cliff top" path being constructed

the list goes on...

I mean have Flamingoland won the Euromillions?

So their choices for rides may not be everyones cup of tea, but the park was packed on Sunday and all rides were handling the crowds ok. All 5 kiddie / family coasters had constant queues, although Thrill Rides rides like Pteradactyl and Flip Flop were only a 5 minute wait. They really have got the balance right between family thrill rides. I mean how much is Alton Towers in need of a couple of real kids coasters? They havent got any now since Beastie went. Even Drayton Manor have got a true kiddie coaster (Troublesome Trucks)

Ok, so things what havent changed

The weird operations on Kumali are still there
General operation leaves a lot to be desired.

As for Twistasaurous. Well it does what it says on the tin. Its a family spinning coaster. Great fun for kids and another good choice for their target market. If they theme this, it will fit even better as it looks a bit bare at the moment.

I look forward to visiting the park later this summer when everything has been completed.

It looks a little bit more travelling ride than I'd expected. Cars look very good, and very smart, the whole area just needs a little bit more. Of course I'm only judging from photos from the internet, but it seems a bit bare.

The area is still very much a work in progress. There's some nice theming going elsewhere as shown in the photos on flamingopics.co.uk - I'm sure finishing touches will be added here and there once the bulk of the work is done and dusted.

For the first time in four years, I'm genuinely interested in the work that is going on at Flamingo Land. Dino-Stone Park is looking a lot better than I was expecting, and I'm excited to see the finished product. Granted the rides are hardly anything to salivate over, but overall it's a good development for the park and a step in the right direction.

One of the main let downs of Flamingo Land, I'm now thinking, is the lack of social networking development. Looking at the banter between Alton & Thorpe (instigated by our own TowersStreet) just shows how leagues ahead these places are in communication.

Bit off topic but does anyone know why they check the restraints on Kumali once the ride is over? Seemed a bit pointless :/

I'm pretty sure that they're pulling down on each restraint to ensure it releases properly.
