Hansa-Park: general discussion

The tower has shot up, here are a couple of photos from the official construction blog:

It really is going to be one of the ugliest coasters in existance when it opens next year. Will no doubt be impressive once themed for 2016.

:)

It's like a power plant chimney or something.

I know it's pretty rotten looking right now, but I still looked at that and went

WOW

It's going to be very intimidating.

A new photo from the construction blog:

That definitely doesn't look huge and out of place at the moment! Will look great once it is all themed though.

:)

Some more details that have been released on the mini-site:
Hansa Park said:
KÄRNAN’s total track length will be 1,235 metres.
KÄRNAN’s first drop will be a 67-metre plunge.
KÄRNAN will require about 200 supports outside the buildings.
KÄRNAN will also be a terrain coaster running just slightly above the ground on certain ride sections.

And a few new photos:

Nuts new photo from Parks & Coasters Worldwide.

This project is still basically a complete mystery! Why is the tower so large on the inside? It could be one of the greatest rides ever built. Or it could be bloody awful.

^^That picture there reminds me of the lift scene in Toy Story 2 where Buzz and Zurg are fighting. Just with the light :p

  • KÄRNAN will feature 16-seat trains with lap bars.
Looking at that tower leads me to this point:
  • KÄRNAN’s tower will be founded on piles that combined have a length of about 1.8 km
Not so sure about piles, but I tell you what, "parping" it on this ride is a distinct possibility!
  • KÄRNANs The track height will be 73m (lift hill above the base).
  • KÄRNANs The tower will be about 79m high.
See the slight discrepancy there? The tallest part of the vertical lift, is not as tall as the tower by a good six meters? They also mention "putting a lid on it" is that tower going to be totally enclosed??

I can only speculate from this, that it will be a vertical lift and drop inside the tower, possibly enclosed entirely, which fits Gerst drop styles, and explains the enormous width of the Tower as well.

And over 1.2km long? 2 dark sections, and indoor dark inversion.

Oh.

And LAPBARS.

I'd imagine it will exit the tower at the top and drop outside. You can see the exit here:

Can't wait until track starts going up and we get to see what the layout is like. Despite there being two new B&Ms I'd say this is the most exciting coaster project in Europe for 2015.

It may not have the bliss factor that Helix had, but it's got the MOTHER OF WARDLEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING factor.

And nope @Rob I think it's going to drop inside the tower, look:

That fits with the cut out as well.

It seems a waste to have the climb in the dark surely?

The shape you point out though definitely looks track and train shape no doubt so my bet on that would be climb outside, drop in.

Hmm good point, hadn't thought of it like that. For some reason I'd just always assumed the lift would be inside. Intriguing!

:)

Why would they have emergency escape stairwells going all the way up the tower if it was going to drop through it?

Maybe so you can't see it from the outside? To get to the top of the lift. We all know (all too well) gerst have new evac procedures for the vertical lift.

You're right though, still strange with the steps and walkways.

If they are going to theme inside which given it's based on that castle I'd imagine they're going to do something they'd surely need access? And also maintenance and track inspection given it's sheer size inside, putting a stairwell up may have something to do with that. It doesn't look like evac stairs to me, and you'd struggle to get a cherry in there as well - for me I'd say they're for inspection but there's people WAY more knowledgeable on here than me.

I still see this as a 2016 project, since that's when it'll be fully finished...

The fact that that tower exists and is bigger than Fluch, plus the ride layout potentially being ridiculous makes this one interesting...
