Let's all have a big collective moan

It'll be a sad day when cursive script is banished forever. I also see it slipping away and would like to see a rearguard action to save it, in a similar vein to endangered languages.
For those who wonder why, there are so many reasons:
1. Typed script homogenises everything it touches; people lose a part of their personality if they lose their ability not just to write by hand, but to choose the style in which they do it. I actively chose to make my handwriting small, italicised and copperplate, and I could do that because I was taught the dexterity needed to control my hands: I think this choice reflects, in a way, who I am.
2. Cursive script is beautiful (and its individuality is linked to its beauty in a way). To see old, handwritten documents gives such a sharp sense of the unique times and characters of human history in a way that a typed transcript never can.
I'll allow that old typewriter script has character in a similar way, but even in that, it differs from the modern, clinical homogenousness of Calibri script printed on a laser printer: there was ink, ribbon; the script produced differed with the make of machine; the paper was manually handled, smudged, marked or corrected.
3. I believe there is a link between imagination, intellectual process and manual creativity. Your brain controls your hand; the cursive script is unmediated; the source of its power is the source of the thought and one complements the other: there is no lag (even of microseconds) for a machine to process something; no mis-struck keys; nothing underlined in red or green, forcing perfection on you and interrupting your flow.
Handwriting is worth fighting for.

See I had years of teachers trying to get my handwriting legible, to the point where I never achieved the coveted status of getting to use a pen (instead of a pencil) outside of handwriting lessons at primary school. My handwriting is still terrible to this day even though I really try to do things neat to the point where my arm aches with the effort... But it's still terrible!
It's a valuable skill, it should be taught but here is my gripe... People going on about my handwriting as though I'm simply just not trying!

See, I actually don't mind being called 'guy'/'bro'/'mate', it feels as though that person considers me to be quite a good friend.

I don't mind when it is called for, but sometimes it really grates....

I was never allowed to use a pen till high school either,* with the result that when I suddenly had to use one, my writing was even worse!
These days, the only times I ever have to write by hand are when I'm leaving a note for someone at work. Since my writing to so illegible, I tend to do this in block capitals. I can't even remember the last time I wrote something properly.
* My primary school was dire. If you didn't get something, they just ignored you and concentrated on the ones that did. I blame this for my poor maths skills, awful handwriting and sometimes questionable spelling. No doubt these days I would be classed as dyslexic. In my day, it was called "thick".

People should be taught to write in such a way that it's easily read by anyone, to make reading things more efficient. How many times did I hear teachers complaining at students for writing illegibly (ie. in their attempts at cursive), or do people lose marks in exams for it? If they hadn't been taught in primary school to write like it was the 17th century then none of that would happen.

Yes, but I suspect the majority of people have bad handwriting because they attempt to join up the words which leads to lazily written text and therefore illegible text.

I have a few fine motor skills problems (Basically I was forced to be right handed.) Up until Sixth Form you get shouted at for not joining up. In Sixth Form they don't mind if you don't and it is neater.

I lost a job because I simply could not read the managing director's handwriting. It was totally illegible. The last person in that role had to leave because of constant mistakes and they asked for someone with exceptional 'attention to detail'.
What they needed was a mind-reader. The guy should have been dictating his notes and letters. None of the other staff could read it either, so they had to hire someone especially for this impossible task.
The job has gone live again with a huge salary increase, which says it all really.

I'm loving being a professional journalist. My stories seem to be popular, and I've recieved lots of praise from my editor.
But one thing has started to annoy me; namely, the laziness of one of the other writers.
I work part time shifts, so no longer than five hours a day. Within this time frame I am expected to write three stories minimum. This particular writer, however, works much longer, is paid more, and yet he manages a lot less than I do. He started his shift at 2, and at this point has written two stores, both of which are fairly short.
It's frustrating for me because I don't get paid as much as he does, yet do much more work (and admittedly better quality) in a far shorter space of time. His shift is roughly twice as long as mine.
Today I wrote a breaking news story within 30 minutes of finding it out. The piece was over 200 words. This guy announced he was writing a story at 5, which clocks in at around 190 words, and its only just been published.
I realise I have an amazing opportunity here and work hard as a result. To see this person be so lazy is infuriating.

If not, here's the basis of the thread, have a moan. Anything that gets on your wicks. Post it, maybe you'll share connections with other moaners. Whatever.
Right, my one is when people always have to comment on my pessimism. I don't see why it's a big problem, it's my outlook on life. I'd like to call my view less pessimistic, more realistic.
Moan away...
I am sure Diogo will like this link.
But this bit of startrek is related to your outlook, which TBH I share a lot of the time. I am just realistic about things rather than pessimistic.

I just saw this on Reddit. Someone has some handwriting skills.

If that's real, that's hella cool.
Oh yeah moany thread, ummm, filthy, unreliable, inefficient, sh**hole public transport. Considering the proportion of our Council Tax spent on WMPTA, I'm inclined to think public transport in the West Midlands is the worst service in a major urban area in the whole of Western Europe.
