Merlin Parks & Attractions: Quick Questions.

You could buy a day ticket (or use a promotion to get cheap entry) and see how you get on. Assuming everything is good, you could then upgrade to the Merlin annual pass and get the entrance fee refunded. That way you're not buying a pass until you know you can get on the attractions.

Matt is right, 52" is a chest measurement I've seen on the ride entrance signs but everyone is different so you really need to use the test seats if possible. It's also worth asking the ride hosts before boarding as there are some larger seats on some of the attractions.

If there's no test seat you could ask a host if you're able to try at the exit. We used to let people on at the exit to see if everything is good, and if so they could rejoin the main queue in confidence. I don't know if the policy has changed or if they'd do this on busy days, but it's worth a shot.

The signs outside most coasters at Alton Towers seem to indicate a maximum chest size of roughly 51-52 inches, and from what I've heard, Shambhala is apparently one of the more common coasters to be rejected on due to how low PA want the restraints, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks Matt! Down to a 54’ chest at the moment so a few months yet before I purchase a MAP for the first time since 2010! Missed it too much!

You're very welcome, and anyway; I'm sure the chest size is more of an advisory recommendation than a hard limit; the main thing is of course fitting in the restraint itself on the actual ride!
 
Any VIP pass introduced would have the exact same issues as the old one (individuals acting in a rude and entitled manner), even if they were park specific and cost more. I can't see them returning.
 
I was hoping for a new digi pass that could be used at all the attractions rather than just the theme parks. It’s bad even for merlin to make a fuss out of announcing some bits of plastic

The new light blue digipass can be used at all the theme parks plus all the London attractions.
 
Perfect thanks, yes looks like 2020 is available now but fireworks weekend isn’t, can’t book past end of October.

no discount on CBeebies hotel though, could have sworn I got it a few years ago
 
Out of interest, does anyone know when the New Year's sale on MAPs begins, or if there even is one? Was only wondering as I've had quite a bit of money for Christmas and was thinking of buying a premium MAP in 2020!
