SeaWorld & Aquatica San Diego

What marine animal could they potentially theme it to, @MakoMania, dependant on where in the park this ride is going?

Is it known whether this will be a similar overhaul to the one that the Orlando version received, or do we reckon it will be something more major, as the refurbishment period seems to be much longer and as Journey to Atlantis in San Diego looks to have less dark ride to it than the Orlando version?

There is practically no dark ride in San Diego, I personally wouldn't be surprised to see bigger things such as track replacement etc.

So Sea World San Diego have announced a new coaster for 2020; a B&M Dive called Mako. Hmm, original.

Comes with a renovation of the shark exhibit. I think I'm right in thinking this will be the US' first mini dive coaster? Will be interesting to see what they do with the layout.
 
Name is ok, would have been nicer to see an original one but ok.

Good to see SEAS buying from B&M again, I told y'all they would :p

Should be a really good fit for the park! SeaWorld San Diego currently lacks a properly huge lift hill coaster, so this will give them one! If SheiKra is anything to go by, the ride should be awesome, if you ask me! I also like the colour scheme; SeaWorld always nails the visuals with their coasters, and Mako (the California version) looks to be no exception! The area should also be really nice, as SeaWorld did a lovely job with Shark Wreck Reef in Orlando, in my opinion! In the Orlando area, there's loads of little details and shark facts, along with a lovely soundtrack and light show when the coaster passes over the plaza!

So all in all, Mako looks like it will be a fantastic addition to SeaWorld San Diego, and it's really great that SeaWorld are in the financial position to invest in so many major coasters in one year!

However, a very small part of me is reminded slightly of Six Flags in the 2000s and the events that led to their bankruptcy by SeaWorld's large coaster-buying spree. But I'm sure SeaWorld knows what they're doing and has the necessary steps in place to prevent another Six Flags scenario from occurring.

Also, have things changed recently with the city of San Diego and their planning laws? Because I remember hearing that SeaWorld had to jump over a number of hurdles to get the 95ft tall Journey to Atlantis built in 2004, and Mako is going to be 153ft tall. If that's the case, then the city of San Diego are certainly being nice to SeaWorld!
 
Is it good to see the investment? Yes, course. But the name? Nope, nope, and nope. Like, seriously. It’s bad enough when operators do “spin offs” of original rides (Oblivion: The Black Hole and Nemesis Inferno come to mind). No doubt it is for marketing reasons. But blatantly copying the name and the logo is very Six Flags. Very cheap indeed.
