I think Tim posted a few pages back that he has heard that the cars are going to be the standard Eurofighter (two rows of four seats) ones. I don't think he mentioned anything about whether there'll be lapbars or not.

I'd have liked to see two of the Eurofighter V2 (as seen on Dare Devil Dive in the US) cars (two seats by three) joined for 12 riders per train because the normal Eurofighter cars are just so small and... well... a bit naff looking, tbh. Whizzing around in a shoebox-sized car doesn't exactly look or feel very thrilling. :p
I've since been corrected in that information. They meant standard as in it won't spin or flip or something like that. So there could be more seats added or it might be truly standard. And they also weren't sure if it would have lap bars or not, but if you want my opinion it will because gerst now offer them as standard.

Bare in mind this is from the same source as some of TT's information so it might not be correct but it sounded reasonable to me.

As you said, I really don;t think there's any need to worry.

This is, first and foremost, a thrilling, decent looking rollercoaster. Any weird additions are just a bonus.

I agree that the coaster looks thrilling and should be well themed, hopefully but I just feel that any weird additions may not be a bonus. They could be nauseating, they could lead to breakdowns and they could seriously inhibit capacity. If it was simply the case that a weird addition is there with no implications, I wouldn't be so concerned. :(

I don't understand this obsession with world firsts. Being the first to do something rarely makes it the best.

Exactly. If the concept was any good, it would've more than likely been carried out by now. That's why it's imperative that they're more innovative than a dodgy trick track. There are only so many comfortable things you can logistically do without it feeling underwhelming.

Um....it could turn out to be as rough and pain inducing as SAW?

True. Although I think it will not be as rough or painful as Saw. Alton Towers aren't stupid, they are not going to choose a ride type if it will end up crap. Candy, John and co. have most likely been working closely with ride designers to get it right. Plus, I think this will be the same as Th13teen, most people said it would be awful being an Intamin ride, yet it turned out to be a very smooth and efficient coaster. No doubt the same care will be taken with SW7.

Out of the many Gerst roller coasters Saw really is the only truly painful one (except maybe Rage). Speed which is older than Saw if perfectly rideable so there is no reason SW7 shouldn't be fine.

As for this been worse than Saw (glares at Diogo :D ), the ride will be out and out thrill like Saw but with more substance and length. I can easily see SW7 impressing enthusiasts as much as The Swarm has and will probably blow the public away simply due to its scale.

Concrete at last!! :D Here are some photos from today. I apologise for the quality, as this was a very last minute trip I didn't have my camera with me so these were taken on my phone.

At the start of the day:

I spy concrete pouring:

Hope they are ok! Please don't replicate photos without permission, and as always these photos were all taken from areas of the park accessible to the public.

:)

Thanks Rob!

I really can't see there being enough room for a moving mechanism down there, especially one that rotates around the heartline.

It is great to see some progress that isn't dirt though!

:D

(p.s. Isn't SAW's problem to do with it's footers shifting due to Thorpe being a reclaimed island?)
(p.p.s. 100th post! :p )

TowersTimes have released an animation of what they believe to be the secret element:

TTF SW7 mini-site, secret element

I suspect (although it doesn't say) that this was made by Boz. He knows his stuff and used to work in Engineering at Thorpe Park so I'm willing to bet that his proposed design could physically work if it turned out to look like this.

While Speed is ok, I couldnt imagine it being comfortable riding it through 10 or more inversions if im honest. SW7 does concern me in that I really do hope it doesnt become a "headache" ride.

It's a good animation despite my wish that they would properly render the animation and not just rotate around the model, that's just my own irk.. I'm actually unsure whether Sketchup has an inbuilt rendering tool...

I think that system would work, i still have misgivings about the idea of the rotating but thats mentioned before and takes up little space.

Though with that technique a glass floor wouldn't be any use!

I believe there is but this was obviously done very quickly. I believe the animation uses something called Sketchyphysics

Only the dark grey circular sections are actually needed. the lighter grey bit could be removed and the glass floor placed above it. Although I think the on ride experience would look better with it.

If the station is raised up and that system works pretty much at ground level with no major excavations needed, then why do we see such deep pits on the park. That idea doesn't fit in with the large pits on site.

It would of the ride started at the top of the building, dropped into the pit, had some track and then directly underneath the station reached this element before somehow rising up again.

But I agree the current landscaping is unexpected as it doesn't seem to fit the plans or this idea. I'm just going to wait and see what happens next before speculating any further about what will actually happen. Right at this moment in time anything seems possible.

Ughhhhh, that element is just actually... Well AWFUL!! I mean, just really, Bored Barnes, if it flipped over then went into a dive loop or some other twisty inversion to put it back the right way up, then fair enough! But not that, it's just boring!

On a side note... I hope Towers have plenty of Calgon Tablets at the ready! Next PR Stunt anybody?!! :p

Probably crazy, but that looks a lot like something I saw on the back of a lorry around a week ago, going through Stafford. It had two police cars escorting it, it was pretty big.

If they are trying so hard to keep it a secret, I cannot see them just slapping it on a back of a truck. I'd assume they would cover it up a bit like they did with Th13teen.

It surely wouldn't just be transported around whole? The thing'd have to be put together on site, because it'd require attaching to the rotation mechanism and wiring and such.

I did say it was probably crazy. Just saying a lot like the mock-up. Slapping it on the back of a truck would be rather stupid.
