So the designer and artist of the spider drawings on the SW7 planning application is a "B Dowson". I'm sure some people here may be aware of Ben Dowson, as he has worked on a lot of big projects over recent years for Merlin, including theming for The Swarm, where his name also appeared all over the planning app. What happens if I google "Ben Dowson Arcadia" to see if there is any link between the two?

No, no, no. Isn't it obvious? The client is I. Crabbe. Clearly a cover name for some sort of giant sentiant crab monster. In order for Alton to appease their new master, they're building a statue in his honour.

An excellent post Sku. :)

But another link I'd seen from that was that he had a picture of the Lords of Lightening, anyone else see a link with them and the Lord of Darkness? So could that mean a return of the Lord of Darkness or an introduction of some new Lords in the X-Sector? :)

Not sure where to post this, but this was on AT's twitter
New developments in the X Sector area of the Theme Park have uncovered a previously undiscovered area of the Towers - #SW #TMOJ #TS

#SW=Secret Weapon
#TMOJ=New maze initials?
#TS=Towers Scarefest?

I think it'll be based on SW7 though...

I think the new scare maze will be themed in with sw7, it'll be some great advertising, what with scarefest been one of the busiest times f the year :)

Looking at #TMOJ and #TheMinistryOfJoy is, it screams to me a Mental Asylum to which Towers has discovered. In theory it fits perfectly with Oblivion, as that ride IIRC is a psychological test on the mind and body. The promos and Q videos clearly state that people were 'lost' when a ride car(s) went missing.

In my eyes, this fits perfectly. I know I'm probably looking too much into it, I did the same with 13, but it just fits perfectly.

Edit: This is why I think its SW7 themed. Not directly answering but gives me the idea.

In my opinion there is definitely a link between the new maze and SW7. I think SW7 will probably have something to do with The Ministry of Joy. The station building could well be a newly built facility after the discovery of where these human experiments took place; either a prison like place or it could be another place of human experiments. Could be very interesting indeed.

:)

Im amazed at the digging they are doing at the moment for this ride, I can see this fitting into X Sector very well. The thing I dont understand is why this coaster has not been put on RCDB yet as its been announced for ages.

Side note FIRST POST on Towers Street No more TT

Dont mean to be bitchy

A few pic of the construction from today, (in a bit of a rush I was!) Sorry for the quality, Blackberry phone. :-\ To be honest, it doesn't look that much different from the last set of pictures.

Something I saw from the Enterprise queline, (unless it's been there for ages), if you can't see it, it was a grey brick structure with a (window/square) hole in:

Anyone wishing to use them elsewhere, feel free to do so! ;)

They really need to stop doing all this digging and excavation. It always seems to end in disaster ;)

If this is seriously the back drop to the story then they need to have a long hard look at themselves

I think there will be a minor link to SW7 but more to just advertise the ride, and not really link it or relate to the ride during the maze.

Is it wrong that I totally read the recent Towers info release in a Hex voice and carried on uttering "...revealed a mysterious passageway, with a tale stranger than anyone could have imagined".

Crabs, witches, insane/mutated people. What else are we going to uncover? ;)

I personally do think the new maze is SW7 linked, but I could just be clutching at straws. When I first saw the plans for the SW7 station building, I was convinced it was an abandoned asylum/prison, and this would fit the bill nicely. OOOooooohhhh theyre *such* teases!

You'd think with all the routine excavation that goes on across the world, you would hear of more things like this. Alton must just be really unlucky. I've dug many holes in my garden and all I ever found was Victorian pottery. Apparently you don't need a B&M invert for that.

As far as I'm concerned, if the new coaster's theme has anything at all to do with something that comes from underground, the act of digging underground or maintaining something in a routine manner, it will be somewhat tiresome.

The themes of Raptor and Swarm are a little worrying as one is basically Nemesis and the other still involves big alien monsters abducting people. It suggests that Merlin don't have many new ideas. I just hope that the story of SW7 is unique enough to stand up on its own.

thanks for the photos CrazyTowers. also I think the lens on your blackberry camera could do with a clean, as they look like they have a grease mark on the right side of the photos.

I am waiting for the weirdo that complains to Advertising standards 'that the Shreddies advert breaks the rules as they not knitted by nanas', to get hold of this idea and use "they always find something bad when digging" as a reasons for a planning objection to the next coaster :D

From Alton Towers Facebook - Scarefest Event Page:

'The Alton Towers Resort’s annual Scarefest is back for 2012 with a new attraction that is set to give guests a taste of its latest ride coming to the X Sector area of the theme park in 2013. The Sanctuary will be a new scare maze that invites guests to book an appointment at an abandoned facility, but a terrifying twist awaits.

New developments on the X Sector site have uncovered an area of the Towers where human experiments were rumoured to have taken place in the early 1900’s by a controlling force known only as The Ministry of Joy. What starts out as an innocent visit through The Sanctuary soon takes a turn for the worse. Will you make it out with a smile on your face?

Details of the new ride coming to the theme park in 2013 are still a closely guarded secret but we know that people are hugely excited about its arrival and want a hint of what is to come. The Sanctuary is set to make Scarefest more terrifying than ever, and give our guests the chance to experience a preview of our new ride before it opens to the public in March.'

So it looks like The Sanctuary is based on SW7!

They've been reading/watching far too much sci-fi judging by these names. :p

Although Ministry Of Joy does have a great 1984 feel to it.

So, the story is an old lab where human experiments were carried out long before the oblivion experiment began. Not a bad thing, it's just so predictable. At least some of the Thirteen theme was a surprise, as a collective we'd all pretty much called this theme a long time ago.

Is this why the station look old and worn on the plans?
Is this facility from the 80's then?

This is quite interesting!
