Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

I think they'll tape yo' ass with Velcro and have the corresponding Velcro mounted onto the seats.

Secret Weapon 7. If you turn the 7 90 degrees to the right it almost looks like a V.

V for Velcro.

Touching cloth.

I just don't understand why you would even want to do this to someones £18m project.

I would fully understand Alton firing somebody for taking a photo they had been contracted not to, but come on man, they're part of a multi-billion pound conglomerate, it's not a surprise peace garden for a local altruist. Well, not as far as we know...

Yeah so one of the things they do, that is not completely geared towards profit

Yeah, I don't want to take this any further either, but everything Alton Towers do is geared towards profit. Which is fine, but in one way or another, it is.

My point though is about decency, this person is working on a project, that has cost millions of pounds, is actually one of the enjoyable things that Alton Towers do - now I criticise Merlin a lot lol, but the parks themselves take great enjoyment from providing things like this. You can tell, or they wouldn't care less who found out or not. It's not going to affect their profits if information leaks early. It's not like we live in the states, where another park can whack up a 500ft 30 million pound monster to beat it.

Therefore, the only reason left for the secrecy, is the enjoyment of the people who visit. There is very little practical reason especially in this country with such little competition to do it any other way.

I give Merlin more stick than probably most on here, in this case though, Towers does try to do things for the right reasons.

Just look at that competition they just had on here for goodness sake, they could have done that in a National Tabloid if they wanted to do it purely for profit/business reasons.

Sometimes, Towers just do nice things, as hard as that can be to believe in today's day and age.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Right, the maze. Hmmmm... I'm still not convinced that 'The Sanctuary' will be anywhere near the same as Scarefest's. I actually thought they might have no actors and have it as an abandoned place, where the experiments started. Keeping Dr. Kelman's video and the Marmalisation. With actors though, my theory would be majorly flawed. I just don't see how they could incorporate it into the normal park.

I'm on my new fangled telecommunications device! So if I spell anything wrong, I do apologise.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

It'd better NOT be open too long!

I want to wander the ruins!

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

It'd make no sense for it to be open for the entire season. If It's free, it'll annoy people at Scarefest, and if you have to pay people probably wouldn't go in it.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

I have a very mixed view on this maze, I can't even agree with myself about this one.

One hand, it would be fantastic to have it as a supporting attraction all year round, and create a great sense of theatre for the ride itself.

On the other hand, is the obvious that it takes out a big proportion of the ruins for people to walk around, and would it command the atmosphere it does at Scarefest, as well justifying the budget?

I lean towards I'd like it open, but only this year, I think it would help the ride and park ultimately as a one off.

Here is a different overlay using Boz's (amazing) creation and the last aerial image.

The first one is so you can see through to what has been done and what it will look like:

This one is what it will look like all filled in properly:

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Christ. Has only just struck me just how large that station building is.

I was a little skeptical about the ride having room for a "secret element", though that long stretch before the first lift hill looks plenty big enough! The fact that a portion of it is 2 story as well (though I realise the upper floor is maintenance?) could be interesting as well, especially if they didn't want to use the words "Secret Element Building" on the plans.

I do wonder whether there will be an almost Blue Fire pre show run though in that long building leading into a launched / powered lift hill. I would certainly be more than happy if they did that in there - almost like what they should have done in Thirteen!

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

If that's accurate that's a pretty decent mock up.

Everything is a little bigger than I thought to be fair, based on that.

That being said, also checking out that, makes it feel like a squashed up Saw with a couple more inversions.

That's my 4th favourite coaster at Thorpe, in fact 5th now counting The Swarm.

I hope they have done something special with it, I really do. First time I've actually questioned how decent it will be in it's own right, I've been a big supporter of how good I thought it would be.

Not convinced now looking at that.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

That's a brilliant mockup. You can see that it's going to be pretty much accurate to the plans from what they've already constructed. I can't see how that would lessen your opinion of it, TheMan? That's basically a 3D version of the plans...?

Yes mate, that's exactly the point lol! It looks so much like a slightly more contained and loopy "Saw".

Pretty much my least favourite coaster at Thorpe, I hope I am wrong of course as I was very excited by this coaster.

(EDIT: I have nothing against Gerst by the way, Saw is by no means a bad ride)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

The more pictures of the station building construction I see the more it confirms to me that the dirty grey box is exactly what we are going to end up with. Hope is fading for even a revised colour scheme finish....

I can't wait to hear the sort of ridiculous storylines people will come up with to how this has relevance to X-Sector. It's gonna be Air and Forbidden Valley all over again.

I really don't know what else to say about this project - other than it will be a good length and provide some thrilling near misses. All in all the construction has so far failed to provide any real excitement or capture any zeitgeist at all.

I think knowing exactly what this ride will do (other than what will happen inside and underground) since last January has perhaps killed off a lot of my excitement.

Then again, its hard to get excited at all about a SAW: The Ride with added loops.

:)

So you are disappointed that the final ride will look like the plans that were produced by the park for the purpose of showing how the ride will look? It just seems a bit odd that you'd be so negative about the layout at this stage because we've known this is what we'd be getting for quite a long time now.

I don't think there's much chance of the outside layout being significantly different to the plans and I've never understood why some people are so adamant that it will be.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

There aren't half some over negative and depressive (re:AT) individuals on TS so I wouldn't over worry.

If you're negative about SW7 I feel you've come to a stage where you move your enthusiasms elsewhere.

;)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Secret element or no secret element, lapbars or no lapbars, inversion record or no inversion record, That looks monumentally SICK!!!

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Likewise, I'm looking forward to this :)

The overlay posted above of the plans over the aerial photo looks great.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

I think that is harsh Dan. Ultimately I have been quite excited by this, but that perspective makes it feel too much like Saw for me. I'm not saying it will be a bad ride. I just hope for SW7 it will be much better than Saw. That is by no means unreasonable.

And yes CGM that is a new perspective on the ride which lead to a different opinion. I dont get why thats confusing to anyone.

I've been very excited up to now. I'm sure it will be a great coaster, but this is Alton Towers. What is world class about this? Again nemmy, blivvy, Air at the time and the brilliant indoor aspect of SW6 even.

I can't understand why any true fan of this park is happy with them getting less than the absolute best, especially as the UKs flagship park. They themselves set that standard, thats why they are so successful, you don'tchange a winning formula. I'm not saying it wont be a pinnacle ride either, I'm less convinced now though.

Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

The building is obviously a run-down hospital, I think the concept is great.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

You are basing your entire judgement on one other coaster.

All other Gerstlauers I have been on - all were less uncomfortable than Saw, with Speed and Novgorod being outstanding. Anubis also gets top reviews.
