Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

The inside of the games stall (Challenge the Smiler) is now finished. The newly installed shutters were briefly opened up today.

Also the marmaliser screen has so many new parts that haven't been playing before, the loop of videos must be 10 minutes or more. It has sections for each leg and loads of weird patterns and images. There are also a few ride shots including Oblivion, Sonic Spinball and Nemesis! All forming part of peoples memories. And the Sanctuary geeks will be happy, there is a little section on the Sanctuary and Doctor. Kelman!

Never do that again. ;)

Just because you are still annoyed at how many times I dragged you all through it!

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Towers Street have uploaded a small video of the Marmaliser screen from today with a few references to the Sanctuary. I missed the bit with Kelman, and wasn't planning on waiting another 20-30 minutes for it to appear again :p

Crikey that sounds like quite a long montage of footage! I was a bit concerned there may not be too much, I guess the beauty of this system is the footage can be changed and added too. (Yes I know...they COULD though).

I'll take a mooch at that thanks mate! ;D

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Time for my penultimate Smiler photo update, sad times! :p Enjoy!

We start with seeing a train on the first lift, unfortunately it did not move from there all day:
P1160056_zps43fb9bed.jpg

Flaps have been added to the doorways:
P1160058_zps5270b9bb.jpg

More flaps on the other doorways:
P1160147_zps1d57f898.jpg

New steps leading from the station:
P1160060_zpsc017d281.jpg

And new yellow steps inside the station:
P1160062_zps7adc7566.jpg

Here you can see that another camera has been added for the ORP. Also notice that the queue line shop has been decorated, it looks much better now:

Another look at the kiosk:

More queue fencing waiting to go in:

The entrance to The Smiler:

It looks like the yellow circles may light up, and the small circular fixings towards the top and bottom appear to be LED lights:

Looking through the entrance:

Another part of a train on the track:

The new paving is complete:

P1160075_zps171d7e3d.jpg

Soil has also been placed around the edge of the site, making it look a lot better. I assume this is ready for some planting:

The Staffordshire Knot is such a good looking element:

Another half of a train being lifted onto the track:

Me trying to be a bit arty:

Speakers have been added to the inside of the Marmaliser legs:

A nice overview of the Marmaliser, yes that is Oblivion on the screen:
P1160089_zps3efe481c.jpg

It then started to chuck it down, this really shows how much of a box the entrance looks:

Busy day in X-Sector:

Another overview shot:

The lights of The Flasher were on:

A lovely day for lift evac training:

Challenge The Smiler now has shutters:
P1160138_zps76cdb5a0.jpg

And behind the shutters:
P1160154_zpsd82f513e.jpg

Shutters have also been put on the entrances to the shop:
P1160139_zps6438b939.jpg

A look up the new paving:
P1160142_zpsd4f22af9.jpg

Yeah, I still don't like the entrance:
P1160150_zps0547a595.jpg

These are the cameras on the top of the games stall, they need these at the entrance:
P1160145_zps955fbda8.jpg

A bit more work is needed here by the looks of it:
P1160155_zps74bcbfe8.jpg

Cameras have now been added to the first lift:
P1160158_zpsfd6ce4f6.jpg

Yellow markings on the floor:
P1160162_zps2493aaa6.jpg

This has been placed at the base of the centre column of the Maramaliser, I would like to see it receive more theming like in the concept:

Finally, here are a few photos showing some stills from the new video(s) on the Marmaliser screen:

Unfortunately the loop was too long to get it all on film. However, when counting through the inversions, there were images of a bat, a cobra and a Staffordshire Knot. Maybe Towers have picked up on our name for that part of the ride?

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! As usual, all photos were taken from areas of the park fully accessible to the public. Please do not replicate my photos without permission. TowersStreet may use them if they wish.

:)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Great photos again, Rob, as always. I'm pretty sure I saw the glass pyramid of the Louvre on the Marmaliser screens. What will you do with your time once all this is over? :p

PMSL at the boot mark!! ;D

Now, er, going to check out the rest of this mammoth update!!

Rob, you and a couple of others, have been brilliant in keeping us up to date with construction images, and I want again to add my personal thanks rather than a click of a button, they have been a real highlight of following this build.

Thank you Rob and everyone else who has done this along the way. I greatly appreciate it. ;D

You probably did, there are a few famous world landmarks in various parts of the video!

What will I do you ask? I have no idea, get a life? ;) Glad you've all been enjoying my updates though, it's nice to know that they are appreciated!

That has to be the best of the lot! Interesting point about the Staffordshire Knot also!! That's quite exciting to think :)

I had trouble imagining the games stall as separate to the ride also, now the paving is done/fencing moved it's loads better. The screen is amazing, the entrance is strange though!

Have to ask though Rob, most of us realise now that the ride looks massively bigger in person than in photos, do the trains appear as big on the track as they seem in the photo, or has this distorted perception of the ride size made them feel bigger than they are?

Also, did I notice they have a shiny metallic under belly? That is one nice touch if they have!! Will glint beautifully in the sun!!

This ride, is just beautiful. It creates so many wonderful shapes and pictures, senses and emotions and that is just on screen.

Alton, she is a masterpiece, please, PLEASE finish her off properly!

That's hard to say actually, the train wasn't in the best position in terms of looking at in on the track and noticing. It will be easier to say when it's seen going around the track in person. I do personally feel that the trains do look big on the track though from videos etc. I think it might be because it is the first time we have seen trains that are 4 across with more than 2 rows on tri-track like this.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

Those flaps are the same as the ones use on Sub Terra to keep the daylight out, so it's safe to assume that that room is where any projection will be.

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

I'm sure the Towers have a thing for flaps now.

First Sub Terra, then The Sanctuary and now The Smiler?

Must have been a bulk order. :)

Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2

SW8 - attack of the flaps!

The backstory will be that Merlin came under a 'flapattack' and the phalanx need to removed these plastic beings from the park. The flaps sidekicks, the shipping container, assisted in the battle but ultimately got stuck r in a huge cattle pen queue, allowing the phalanx to capture them and ride them.....with the track being SW8.

Sorry, to many Applesourz!
