Could the other footer be part of the inverted drop? Or is it too far away?

The footer is too far away from the inverted drop yes, so it will not house a track support.

Call me thick - or blind if I've missed it - but what does that pipe do? If it's been used to pour in the concrete, why does it remain?

I still think that this footer and the mysterious lonesome footer on the other side of this trench will hold some form of scenery object (or at least I hope) and that the black pipe will maybe house electricals of some sort. That's the only explanation I can think of.

Breaking away from the flow of conversation slightly, but do we know why they have reduced the 'spider' from 6 legs to 5 legs? I know the 5 elements of the marmaliser, but it does suggest to me that this is an entirely different theme to the plans - otherwise why produce plans for 6 crossover legs?

I genuinely think they cut a leg because they altered the layout between them creating the Marmaliser idea and finalising it. The new layout couldn't accommodate 6 legs, i'm basing this on the fact i can't see where a 6th leg would fit.

I haven't studied the plans and compared them to the current construction in depth enough to know what has changed. If it's for that reason, I'm happy

I would agree but i just can't see where a 6th leg would go, it's packed in as it is.

Still remain convinced that the ORP will be The Flasher. Have done since the concept was released, it also is a near miss on the track, which lends more credence to it I think.

Wont be your standard ORP if it is that's for sure ;D

In the covering letter, it said the ride would include a beyond vertical drop. The drawings do not appear to show one, but they also only showed eight inversions outside - so I guess there is still a possibility.

It didn't say The Smiler ride would include a beyond vertical drop, it said that the ride would be the same manufacturer and ride type as SAW: The Ride at Thorpe Park, which includes a beyond vertical drop.

I guess it depends upon how you read it, but the fact that it says that at all to me points to them originally including one in the indoor section.

It was the noise report that it was mentioned in, i think it was just implying that the noise levels that would come from the smiler would be comparable to SAW. I think the beyond vertical drop was only mentioned to try and convince the people considering the planning application that there would be less screams coming from the smiler because it wouldn't be having the beyond vertical drop, so they would be more likely to approve the application. When you think that the "Don't Look Down" audio had to be removed from oblivion because it was deemed that it caused more people to scream, so it had to be removed to decrease the noise coming from the area, it makes perfect sense that they would want to put this to make it look like the ride would be less noisy.

It said the ride (that is The Smiler) would be the same type and manufacturer as Saw, including a beyond vertical drop.

That relates to The Smiler in most interpretations of English grammar, I'd say. However I don't believe that necessarily means we'll be getting one.

From that photo it's quite hard to see the difference from the yellow found on the legs to the 'tickler'.

Does it look more like a car wash buffer in person? It looks a bit thin!

Also, is that a motor on the side i see? MY WORD, it might actually spin like on the concept...

I do wish that they'd used a bit of irony with "the tickler" and put spikes there - or something similarly sharp and threatening looking. A few yellow "blades" glinting in the sun would have provided more of a scare and ramped up the perceived risk.

Pleased that there are additions to the marmaliser though - It was perhaps the pessimistic side of me that thought the additions would never come to fruition

You don't say, I'm not sure how tall the Eurofighter trains are, but they can't be much less than the six feet that is above the track.

A few weeks away from the internet and look what I've missed! Good lord, a lot has happened. Although it sounds like on some days they have been slacking, if they keep up the pace the COULD get this beast of a ride done.
