Re: [The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation Part 2
Very nice photos from Towers! They give a really interesting perspective of the site. However they're out of date now, so how about a load of new photos from today?
As per usual, WARNING, VERY PICTURE HEAVY POST!!
We start with an overview from the top of the site. As you can see the second dive loop is now complete:
Concrete has now been poured for the area where the vertical lift will be:
Boxing up some rebar ready for more concrete pouring:
The marmaliser:
Another look at the dive loop:
Station walls coming along:
Marmaliser from a different angle:
The station from the bottom of the site:
It looks like a sign will be put on here:
Detailings on one of the marmaliser legs:
And here you can see wires that have been added to the main hub:
Close up of the Flasher:
Here you cans see where the theming elements of the Tickler will be attached to one of the legs:
More theming elements waiting to be added to one of the marmaliser legs:
Here you can see that the second dive loop is connected to the airtime hill leading into the batwing:
There was a lot of this happening today, Gerstlauer taking a good look at the completed second dive loop. They apparently had a real struggle getting the final piece to join with the other track which is concerning:
This footer confuses me, not sure what it's for:
Some nice shots showing the completed dive loop and how it interacts with the sea serpent roll:
The maintenance shed is coming along nicely:
There is no track in the maintenance shed, but here you can just about make out what is being used instead:
These could well be entrances from the queue into the building:
The marmaliser without the crane in the way:
The main wall of the station is now almost complete:
This part of the Flasher will provide a really good head chopper:
And from another angle:
The view from the Oblivion merge point:
Concrete pouring started to take place later on in the day:
A final overview:
And now we head over to the car parks where lots of interesting stuff can be found!
Lift track! Does lift track normally come with both magnetic and friction brakes attached though? Can't say I've seen it before:
I think this is probably the transfer track, although I could be wrong:
Lift hill chain:
The top of the vertical lift (I think):
Ahhh, there we go. I hope you like. There are rather a lot of photos there.
As usual, all photos taken from areas of the park fully accessible to the public. Please do not replicate my photos without permission. TowersStreet may use them if they wish.
And now a few points from me:
- Photos do not do the marmaliser justice at all. It looks so much better when you see it in person. It's very impressive and imposing.
- I hope the station will not be left as concrete, fingers crossed themed walls will be placed over the concrete walls.
- There is next to no rebar left in the car parks now, so groundwork is very nearly finished.
- So many people were commenting on The Smiler when they saw it, saying how awesome or crazy it looked and that they'll have to come back when it's open.
