Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Just because they themselves have not said it is a new attraction does not mean it is not.

It is new to the park and by the very definition of what an attraction it is, it is one of those too.

So yes, new attraction.

They've got new bins are they an attraction too?

It's not like they're saying it's permanent so I don't get the problem.

It's clearly an attraction, even if they're trying to market it as an event for some obscure reason (tbh I'm not even sure that they are as I've not been paying much attention)

I'd also assumed it had been hired in, is it really from MMM? That makes even less sense.

Routine bins are not an attraction.
But a vacuum one in the shape of a lion that actually sucks the rubbish out of your hand...
Oh no, that would be BPB, who didn't fix it when it broke after decades of good use.
Outside the ark.

Silly comment. Do you ride the bins? Do they entertain you? Has anyone ever been attracted to visit Thorpe Park by their bins?

To be fair to theme park bins, the bin Disney used to have in Magic Kingdom that roamed around and interacted with you was absolutely golden. If Thorpe had a walking talking bin, it would be the most compelling reason for me to visit. :tearsofjoy:

  1. attraction
    [əˈtrakʃ(ə)n]
    NOUN
  • a place which draws visitors by providing something of interest or pleasure.
"the church is the town's main tourist attraction"

I have never known a bin to provide something of interest or pleasure, a bouncy castle course certainly provides both of them.

It's not a 'new attraction' it's a summer event.

I for one think this will be very popular over the summer. Me and my friends have done all the rides there, but we're going down this weekend because we've always wanted to do one of these. I'm sure many other pass holders and guests will feel the same.

So you yourself have said your friends and you are being attracted by this new attraction. A summer event can also be an attraction, you know.

Technically this isn't the only new thing Thorpe are getting this year, the also insanely suitable Gaming thing and Escape Room are also things that have or do exist...

Of course, these 3 things are symbolic of a park unsure of its direction... But I mean they tried the Luna Cinema thing? It's very much a case of throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks, whilst the park decays and suffers issues seen at the other Merlin parks...

As I've said over on TPM, at what point do they just go and hire a load of funfair rides for each season? No maintenance required by the park and a constant rotation of flat rides. Who cares? Merlin clearly don't see Thorpe as strictly a theme park any more. They just want to fill it with cheap, temporary attractions this year in desperation to keep people interested.

bouncezilla is actually so fun. It’s a great little addition to the park for summer and the music is awesome. It’s also much more knackering than it looks.
Jungle escape on the other hand, the less said the better. We paid £36 for 4 of us which I feel was a massive waste of money but I’m glad we gave it a go.
Operations across the park were fantastic today and the addition of really good actors to the middle section of DBGT made it one of the highlights of the day.

Perhaps they've bought it instead of rented it because they are planning to tour it around all of their parks, hoping to use it for a year at each before transporting it to the next.

Next year on Towers Lawn...

So takeaway from this thread so far:
-Operators on certain rides are inattentive
-The bins at Efteling are more worth visiting than Thorpe
-Not value for money
-Cheap, gimmicky "new for 2019" attractions
-Operations getting closer to where a major theme park should be at

No one's mentioned the place looking rundown or dirty which is a step up from last year. As everyone's aware the park have a new DD this year so who knows how long they'll last and what cheap gimmicky IP's they'll put in before ditching the park just like the last few have. They might also turn things around for the park. Who know?

To be fair to the predecessor, they were fired along with most the entire management team in a restructuring by Merlin HQ.

And didn’t Mike Vallis leave Thorpe by his own choice for promotion within Merlin. Rather wisely you could say as he had managed to rebuild the park as family friendly place that was then completely ruined by DBGT and more recent attractions / events which now see the park full circle again trying to win back families.

Yeah he's high up in midways now, was always on site at Bear Grylls Adventure.

DBGT was the worst thing to happen to Thorpe, they spend at least 20 mil on it and it's been a disaster.

No wonder Merlin won't give them any more money.

I don't think any real changes towards a family appeal were made during any Tussauds/Merlin director's tenures. It was always just changes of branding without actually developing anything. I also don't think the DDs get that much a say in what gets built at the park but obviously they have a degree of influence, their influence is more on the parks running.
