Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Have they given a reason for only painting half of Colossus?

It looks worse to me, the ride is supposed to be ancient in style.
I did hear it said that the park said that the sections not being painted are being retracked by Taziker in the not-too-distant future as part of the ongoing retrack project, so would not necessarily need repainting.

Rush getting standard annual maintenance. Storm Surge getting standard annual maintenance. A jet washer doing a once over on some of the pathways. Half of a 20 year old coaster getting repainted. Only "Insane" by Merlin standards. Bellow bare minimum for most other park operators.

I don't think Storm Surge getting a replacement lift hill belt is an annual thing? So although it would be standard maintenance for the ride type, its going to happen less than yearly.
But yes the only thing that isn't really standard is the Colossus repaint and it could be argued that is "standard" maintenance that should be done around every 20 years, Nemesis probably got a repaint around 20 years too. Most of the rest happens regularly or should do.

Don't think it’s been confirmed before, but seems Taziker aren’t doing the new bits of track this year at Thorpe for Colossus, probably after the massive issues last year where it didn’t fit and got put up and then removed and sent back to the factory.

This has been posted earlier on LinkedIn.

A quick check of the company after seeing the tags used in that post shows they are a shotblasting and coatings specialists rather than an engineering firm. I think what you’re actually seeing there is them treating and finishing pieces of track already made by someone else (possibly Taziker).

Yeah it seems that they do work with Taziker and are the ones who do the painting

Samurai being repainted back to the original colours is good news, loved that style.

It seems like there is a particular focus on everything on the walking route towards Hyperia. I guess they've realised a brand new shiny area will further emphasise just how crap everything else around it has looked for the last 10 years.

Also looks like Mr Silkstone got a new Barnet for Christmas - fair play to him :tearsofjoy:

Incredible changes happening at Thorpe park it really is a big year for them! Who knew Merlin would be putting so much back into there parks its very refreshing, sounds like there is even more to come. Must be a very busy closed season on site, quite amazing how they got all of this passed off in their yearly Capex budget with an enormous headline attraction…just wow.

Samurai will look much better now next to Saw.

The one flat that REALLY needs repainting though before any of the others is Zodiac to give it its original colour scheme. Hopefully next year!
It is definitely in need of a repaint, but at least Thorpe Park keeps and maintains their flat rides unlike another Park...

Mean technically the current Enterprise there is in its original colour scheme since it was moved from Drayton.

The original Zodiac was ancient before Thorpe brought it in.

Well yes, you know what I mean ;) would just be nice to have it in its intended “Zodiac” colour scheme and theming. I believe each pod was themed to a different star sign as well from memory. Remember when the current one was brought it, it still had Drayton Manner written on each pod.
