Thorpe Park: General Discussion

they do have planned maintenance for both Hyperia and Saw today

but not sure why inferno and TWD are closed :(

StealthClosed on the 18th September
HyperiaClosed between 23rd - 27th September for maintenance
Nemesis InfernoClosed on the 30th September - 3rd October
SamuraiClosed on the 7th - 9th October
HyperiaMay be a delay to opening each day and the queue line will close prior to the advertised park closure time - please check the app for the most up to date information
Saw: The RideClosed Monday 23rd September
With all of these planned closures, I think that Thorpe should really consider going back to closing two days a week off peak.

It’s unfair on guests who’ve paid the same price as people who visit at the weekend, especially when in addition you factor in staggered ride openings.

Would closing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for example, even have a detrimental effect on their profits? The vast majority of people who would have planned to visit on those days won’t just not bother, they’ll just reschedule their visit for a different day.

Off Peak days are available much cheaper than weekends for day guests usually. Most of the off peak dates cost £29. Weekend Guests pay more as the park vary their prices based on how busy they expect the park to be.

Whether the park continue with full week opening throughout the season or resume mid-week closures is a different matter. I'm thinking that they may still go with full week openings next year however if they do mid-week closures - they might do an off peak day closure like how Chessington do i.e. closed on Tuesdays.

I don't think we're going back to the Thursday to Monday opening schedule like they used to although I could be wrong.

I believe it is wrong to close rides off peak although I think it can't be avoided if they're preparing for Fright Nights too. I'm hoping it can be better scheduled moving forwards to minimise the impact on off peak visitors.

If rides have planned maintenance then it should be announced as far in advance as possible.

If rides have unplanned maintenance then not much you can do about that.

Closing rides for cost cutting is completely unacceptable.

Ghost train will be open from 3pm daily instead of 12pm during Fright Nights this year, the ride availability page has been update to confirm.
I swear we had this conversation on the previous page.
I would imagine that this is around the staffing of the ride with the required live actors. Workers are entitled to a 20 minute uninterrupted rest break if they work for 6 hours, or more. With Fright Nights extending Thorpe Park's opening hours to 9pm, the amount of staff cover you'd need for an additional 3 hours of operation might make it unviable.

Ride teams tend to be multi disciplinary, the actors on Ghost Train are likely to only be working on that attraction. If Thorpe hires actors with Equity union membership, that would further complicate things too.

I visited on Sunday and had a great time, apart from Hyperia lines weren't bad after the morning rush and things got very quiet as the day went on. Hyperia was wonderful and a great experience, so smooth and felt very unique to me (though I've not been to many theme parks outside the UK apart from Efteling)

I was very disappointed with Ghost Train, this was my first time experience any version of this attraction and it was quite poor. This is no fault of the actors who played the train conductors who put in a lot of effort, and I felt sorry for them having to carry the whole experience on their shoulders. It felt like most of the ride was story and explanations on what was happening but there wasn't really any pay off, with the big final scene featuring a single nun type character appearing and just running around a bit. Can anyone explain the nun, I don't remember them mentioning nuns in the story so what was that related to?

From what I understand there is meant to be a final scare scene in a fake gift shop but that room was blocked off by a member of staff who just directed us to the exit through the coffee shop. Some things I read said there was also meant to be a part where you see possessed tv presenters on a tv somewhere but I don't remember seeing that, though we were rushed through to the trains quite quickly.

A controversial opinion but I felt like The Walking Dead ride offered more atmosphere and had more consistent scares. At least they used sound a lot better and kept the story simple (more or less escape the zombies)

I just didn't really understand what I was meant to take away from this experience, it felt like all build up to a pay off that never really came.

Sorry to be so negative, I had a really nice day at the rest of the park and everything else seemed to be running smoothly. Even Saw felt quite smooth which I've had a rough time on before.

The story of ghost train made no sense, but I enjoyed it as a tube simulator. The fake station and carriage are done well. The rest of it...not so much

I think the fake shop scene was scrapped along with the VR and the Derren Brown IP a year or two ago. It's a bit of mess now with no clear identity or USP.

It wasn't amazing before but it was worth doing at least once for being a unique and quirky attraction. Now it just leaves you feeling non-plussed and wanting 30 minutes of your life back.

The fake shop was still there last year, and I think it was there at the start of this year. Not sure what’s happened to make them remove it, but it wasn’t very good.

For me, the fake gift shop was the only memorable part of this attraction.

I’ve no idea what Thorpe were thinking when they installed this in 2016, and there’s been a few internal management changes both at Thorpe and obviously at group level since then, but sadly they’ve now been left with a massive white elephant.

I'm assuming that the Fake Gift Shop has something wrong with it and is either problematic or not practical to repair at the moment.

I'm not really sure either why Thorpe Park thought Ghost Train and those Rise of the Demon upgrades are a more worthwhile investment than keeping Loggers Leap up and running.

I believe the best thing for the ride now would either be a bulldozer or a complete rip out and replace with an Omnimover Dark Ride.

Totally believe that it's a white elephant now. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a Dungeons as an upcharge even as it's next incarnation? 🤔😮

I mean, the fake shop wasn't operational when I rode Ghost Train back in April. Really was an underwhelming ending, and an underwhelming ride in general, much preferred DBGT.

The only time I've known it to be operational this season was the day before Good Friday (March 28) when the park was overwhelmingly windy.

All other times it was non operational when I boarded it.

I wasn't keen on either incarnation - what ruins it for me is the capacity and the slow moving queues.

They really cut the ride/show back since it opened as we went in at 5pm and we were back into the cafe at roughly 5:15.

Has the flying demon been moved or is it broken?
I didn't notice any flying demon if it was meant to be in the crypt part. One of the statues lit up and another moved a bit but that was all that happened in terms of special effects I noticed
