Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Thorpe have said on Twitter today that they have no plans to remove Loggers Leap (so I assume it is going to be Thorpe's version of the Black Hole tent) and that Slammer is no more, it will not be re-opening.

Sad times... Slammer was the best ride at Thorpe

The last of its kind in the world, gone.
What a shame.
NAAAAHHHHT!! I have never been a fan of this contraption and actively avoided it when visiting. It was a substantial downtime Queen and I'm pleased the park will no longer waste their time nor effort in trying to salvage it.
Next question... what could possibly fit in its footprint, or will any new installation include additional space?

I'm a big fan of Slammer, but things come and go, it's the nature of the industry. As I think I mentioned earlier in the thread, their dedication to keeping it going is uncharacteristic of Merlin - it wasn't going to continue forever.
With regards to Loggers, I suspect it will be removed when they have a reason to remove it. Makes sense for the removal to be part of the same capex project as whatever eventually replaces it.

As far as I am aware, Loggers' future has not been decided. It needs work, but will presumably only get funds released if the ride will last long enough to justify it, which is uncertain.
Shame about Slammer, it always surprised me how hard they tried to keep it running, despite the fact I've never seen it popular enough to require the extended queue line during any of my visits since 2007, whilst the likes of Rush and Samurai have regularly attracted 45+ minute waits.

Is it possible that Loggers could be refurbished and adapted with new features? Backwards drops, maybe even a log launch, utilising the old infrastructure? The final drop is still great, and there's prime opportunity for nostalgia utilising the old infrastructure.
I also loved Slammer, undoubtedly one of the most extreme permanent theme park rides operating over the past decade or so.

They'll need to balance Loggers between refurbishment and improvements, refurbishment means giving it a clean and maybe a new station building, improvements like changing the layout or adding new parts will fall technically under modern regulations which means it will never pass H&S (because it's not a clean water system).
Mind you if you've seen the state of the ride system from Samari or Colossus you'll know it's done for.

Loggers Leap is clearly never going to re-open again. They probably shouldn't claim that area is under redevelopment on the park map if they don't yet know what they're doing with it though and have no plans to remove it at the moment.
Yes please - Thorpe is the perfect park in the UK to get a massive flat like this. Or a Huss Jump2!

In terms of a replacement I can think of an ideal one! Scrap Bortex and use slammers larger site for one of these beauty's!!

It's not a big stretch to just go and build a GIB

Don't know if anyone has seen but Thorpe are now advertising the name of the "new" frog hopper ride that is going in Old Town.
The ride is known as Lumber Jump.
