One small thing that would make me quite happy though would be replacing the queueline TV's with flatscreens. There is nothing sadder than seeing old CRT monitors littering a ride that is meant to be cutting edge.

I think we should give up on expecting something built in 1998 to look cutting edge...

LCD/plasma TV use less power than the old CRT. But the CRT are more hards wearing, and can take more abuse from cold than flatscreens.

Given they started replacing some of them over the past few seasons I'd imagine they'll just be replaced as they die. Remember, they are building their most expensive attraction ever just opposite, and if the repaint is costing as much as suggested this is going to be a very expensive year for the park. I think I'd forgive them for not buying more expensive screens for another year :p

Besides, if anywhere needs them replacing it's the Monorail stations. Those are dire! Half don't work or are broken! :p

But either way, those CRTs are abysmal!
Why? They work fine, which is more than can be said for the CRTs on the monorail, as Ian's pointed out.

Absolutely nothing wrong with using CRTs (when they work), so it'd be a complete waste of money to needlessly replace them with LCDs.

To be fair, I agree that there are more pressing issues around the park that could do with the money, such as the screens in the monorail, keeping the misters on Oblivion working, and making sure all effects in Hex are working.

The suggestion was made on the assumption that there is money in the budget to make improvements to the ride - bulk buying 10 small flat screens would probably be a drop in the water in comparison to the £20 million budget they reportedly have.

If they've got the budget, I'd rather they spent it all. The number of times we complain that profits made on the park aren't seen in improvements return makes me want them to polish everything up when they have the opportunity to.

I think they look pretty edgy inside the tower building with the flashing projector in the middle.

Probably because they don't look like your standard household TV's at all.

I'd presume they'll replace Oblivion TVs with flat panels. When they're going to be spending such a huge amount on a repaint, refresh of station etc. a couple of thousand for flatscreens is nothing.

There are only a few CRT screens left, which are in the bunker. I think space could be a bit of an issue here so they might lose a few screens and only have a few in there. Most of them are fine, I think there is only 1 which has broke.

A new ride information board (which queuetime indicator) and/or scrolling sign would be welcome :)

You mean one which actually shows a time, and has more than 6 functioning LEDs? ;)

Talking about ride inormation boards, what happened to this?:

Sorry its a small pic, its all I could find. If that scrolling bar could be re-introduced for opening day, the area would look awsome! It could also be used to advertise SW7!

:)

If they change the CRTs to flatscreens, I hope they use their heads and use the CRTs in the monorail stations to replace the failing and failed ones. It would kill two birds with one stone so it speak.

I'm still surprised why they removed this board

I'm sure it really wouldnt cost that much to get park wide LED boards for each ride, like TH13TEEN, Ice Age and Sub Terra have. My guess is that SW7 will have it, so while you are refreshing the whole area, why not add them to Oblivion, Enterprise and Submission.

So as we now know that the smiler won't be opening until may what do we reckon this means for x-sector on the (w)hole ;)? Will they be opening it come march 16th, or wait until may to have it as one shiny new package?!

Part of me hopes that they keep it shut. Will allow full speed construction all over the site - its not just the ride that has to go up, but reworking pathways etc.

I cant see the public being happy with that though. Unless they can work in a back route for Oblivion I can see a partial opening happening, which I think could impact completion date further.

As I said before, I really can't see a way for them to get X-Sector open whilst construction is ongoing. The entrance is a massive bottleneck as it is, and I can't see any other route for people to take.

Of course, that depends on just how delayed they are with construction. If they are still moving track, then I think X-Sector will be shut. If they are onto the paths and landscaping, then I think X-Sector, or at least Oblivion, will be open with the main entrance in use.

Here is what they could do:

This would allow The Fried Chicken Company to operate through the side doors (near the tills) and just keep the doors facing SW7 locked and also allow Oblivion, Submission & Enterprise to be open.

It may create a bit of a bottleneck coming in and out of X Sector, but I would of thought before Easter hits they can open half of the main path down x sector and steer them around the back of the Fried Chicken company.

Doing it that way would allow for the pathways to be cleaned the construction side of the fence (the public pathways could be cleaned pre 2013 season) and also allow for the construction to continue along with the theming and pathways for the ride without people getting in the way.

As much as I want to ride Oblivion in March, I would rather they kept X-Sector closed. I'm glad The Smiler isn't opening till May because we won't be getting a rushed job. I'd like X-Sector closed for the same reason, the place has been crying for refurbishment for years and it would be a massive shame for them to cut corners for the sake of opening it a little earlier.

Also, from aerial photos, they're obviously using the whole of X-Sector heavily during The Smiler's construction so opening it to guests may slow them down once again.
