PortAventura World: Ferrari Land

It's a theme park.

If Merlin segregated off one of their new rides, with a couple more fillers and a big sticker, and charged more for entry this place would melt.

I am not against it, it's their park, and I am sure they will rake it in from it for the myriad reasons already mentioned, but comparing it to a moving fair is daft.

Have you even read through this thread? Or are you just in a very argumentative mood this evening?

I never did compare it to a moving fair, if you'd even read what I said properly then you'd realise that!

I am saying that £10 for three rides, particularly good quality, static theme park rides is not unreasonable by any means.

The reason I used the example of funfairs was to highlight that £10 is not a lot for three rides no matter what type of rides they are. How you don't get that is completely baffling. Coasters at fairs usually cost around £5-£7 for just one ride. In terms of permanent amusement parks, coasters at Blackpool Pleasure Beach cost around £4-£8 for one ride, Margate's Scenic Railway cost £5 for one rides this winter. Therefore I was making the point that a £10 add on to a standard PA ticket for, presumably, unlimited rides on these three attraction is not bad value.

Seriously I don't mean to be rude but maybe try re-reading posts and threads before you accuse people of being "daft"

Are you for real? Do you seriously not get my point? I know that it's a theme park and, if anything, this means that they should be charging MORE than what you'd expect to pay at a travelling funfair.

£10 for unlimited rides on three different permanent theme park attractions is better value than £7 for one ride on one of Winter Wonderland's temporary funfair coasters.

I'm making the point about what people are willing to pay and what it's reasonable to charge them. I never once claimed that theme parks and funfairs are similar. I seriously don't see how you don't get this laughably simple comparison which I'm making and have decided to draw some other bizarre conclusion that I'm saying a theme park is similar to a funfair. I'm merely making a discussion about pricing.

Because they're making a "world" out of a couple of rides, a big shed with a prancing horse sticker on it. (OK, facetious, it's me remember ;) - my posts come laced with sarcasm as standard)

If Merlin did this with Towers, hands up, who would be like - oh yes, that's fine.

TS would go into hyper drive ultra meltdown enough to power an actual interstellar flight on air space technology battlestar galactica tours.

I see that point but to be fair we don't even know how many rides will be in this new park. Granted it'll be small but I imagine Ferarri had something to do with wanting a separate park and PA saw it as an opportunity to develop themselves as a multi-park property. I really don't see what the issue is to be quite honest. If you stay on site i'd imagine both will be included in the price anyway. Hopefully ;)

Hey it's their park as I said before I don't have a problem with it, people can choose to visit/pay etc if they want. And it sounds from what I've read here it'll be multi-phase. I can just see why people are annoyed by it.

I think you're probably right though, Ferrari may well have wanted it to be a separate park. That does makes sense, perfect sense actually.

Both PortAventura and Ferrari didn't want Ferrari Land to be part of PortAventura Park for the obvious reasons. Even now, although it is part of the Resort, on the plans and websites etc. PortAventura Park and Costa Caribe come under the title 'PortAventura Parks' and then Ferrari Land is by itself.

Ferrari Land seems to only be there due to the popularity of the Resort, I doubt it will actually have much to do with PortAventura itself.

I would also say the fact that this new park contains rides which are very similar to rides which are already at PA further points to it being a very separate project to the rest of the PortAventura resort.

As sir Algenon said, Ferarri have simply chosen PA as a site for a park which they wanted to build in Europe and PA have agreed to host it on their site and manage the operations of it.

Ferrari Land will still have PortAventura's name over it, but I'm sure that is down to the partnership and taking off each others popularity.

Stores, Restaurants and attractions will be run by PortAventura, but the project is very much external from where I'm standing.

Double post, sorry.

The launch coaster is quickly going up as shown by this photo from Hotel Caribe today!

It is now high enough to be seen from a distance, it really will stand out rather a lot, being at least another 100ft taller than that airtime hill! :D

New construction diary by PAC which shows some close ups of the tower and the strange new triangle supports on the brake run:

Considering how high the brake run is, there is definitely going to be some sort of hump leading into the brakes, now we just have to wait and see if it produces much airtime.

The concepts show it to have a small hump (a lot smaller than the one on Stealth) so I'm unsure whether it would produce any airtime or not...)

Another picture of construction, presumably showing the "hump"

Not gonna lie, that looks horrible from this angle. I'm sure it's smoother from the side, but even then you're going to have to be going relatively slow over those transitions.

What on Earth is that transition? Brakes before climbing, and onto a banked brake run? It's as if a child has tried to replicate Kingda Ka on RCT.

Wut. Is. That.

These are right up there with my favourite coasters, I love Intamin launch coasters, but that looks - just - EH?!

It doesn't look any better from this angle either! :p It looks like they wanted a hump like Kingda Ka, but didn't have enough room! Although, does that mean the launch on this is going to be more powerful? It does look quite a short distance from end-to-end.
