Re: A Little Look at the Closed Season
Conference? In a scaremaze? Er....I think they mean advert/promo filming! If it is a conference though I expect a press conference. Otherwise it would be in the conference centre.

Although im not saying it isn't true, I can't see the Resort hiring a bunch of actors for one run-through of the maze for the sake of a conference.

Re: A Little Look at the Closed Season
In what way are people taking the meaning of conference?
It either means of Merlin use, or a company (such as Next Retail, Toshiba, other retailers...) has hired the venue for a day for a special company event, which happens quite a lot of Alton. So yes they would get actors in if a company has paid a few £100,000 to use the maze for so long.
Or it could be involved with the rumour of the maze being open to guests during half term.
Nice to hear of some TLC the rides are getting. Good news with Hex, I wonder why they might not be able to fix the drum parking, could they possibly not know the direct problem with that?
Glad that Rita is having a new safety feature installed. At least there will be no awful tunnels under that next year! Plus throughput will be far better.
While these fixes do not make a difference to the overall faded view of some of the rides/areas in the park, at least Alton are investing some money into maintaining and improving some of the rides. Seems like they are going back to the good old days of improving attractions each closed season!

Re: A Little Look at the Closed Season
From what I've heard, is that it's the actual drum that's the problem, and the only way they could fix it is to get a whole new drum from Vekoma.
So they'd have rip out the existing one, theme the new one, and install it. I think that it would be too much work for what it's worth.

They are not too sure what the issue is with parking the drum, the replacement of the slew ring and fixing the audio will make a vast improvement on the ride though.
And yeah if a conference is using the Sanctuary then you can bet they paid top dollar to do so, though my money is on Towers using the maze for the media event.

Re: A Little Look at the Closed Season
How will this speed up throughput? Surely all it will do is allow them not to have the scaffolding up as pointed out. There was no affect to the throughput as far as I was aware? The only thing that really changed was the scaffolding being put up and guest were made to go through them and also the queue was stopped just short of the launch track and then some were let through every so often.

In other news, Rita is in the process of receiving an upgrade from Intamin. This involves installing a new catch tray beneath the track. It was decided the modification was required following the incident earlier this year, where one of the cables used to catapult the train forwards snapped, falling onto the pathway underneath it. This improvement has allowed the scaffold tunnels under the launch to be removed, improving the appearance of Dark Forest, and also speeding up the throughput of Rita.

Eh?

They wouldn't need fencing now though with the tray. Unless I have misunderstood. I absolutely loathed the temporary system, even if permanent tunnels were installed the are just felt too small & cluttered. This new tray though is, for sure, the best option for all parties.

Re: A Little Look at the Closed Season
Oh over the several times I went, I never saw it personally. Didn't know that it was happening to the point were there was no one in the ready queue to join the ride. I always saw something like 20/30 people let through at a time and then when it got low they let another lot through.
Dave said:The queue was held beyond the launch track so they had to stop dispatching trains to allow more people up to the station. You would often see a ready to launch train waiting because guests hadnt passed the launch.

Re: A Little Look at the Closed Season
That is how it worked, but they had to have two staff members (one near station side and the other on the other side of the track holding the queue back), and before a train would launch both staff would have to give the all clear before they would launch a train.
Quite a few times I have been on the ride and had to wait a few minutes until they would send the train.

As with most h&s they wouldnt do anything until it actually happned. Glad the park is being worked on, having not been this year (through no fault of my own) i saw at scarfest 2011 that it was looking faded. Air and nemesis was the main area of concern for me. Both look tired and unloved. The que line for nemesis especially. Im n ot sure if all of it is used much anymore but it was just an eye sore from the main que part. Air just needs painting.
Its always nice to look at pictures of the closed season. As it gives us a look at all the little tiny things we always missed when its open
