Why a minimum of two years? They planning on bulldozing the plaza in 2020 or...

Nice idea, £50 is a bit steep (with a minimum of 2 years, and not even a solid guarantee of that, you may as well etch a message onto the wood in the Wicker Man queueline which will probably last longer). They will make easy money from this regardless.

I have 2 of these outside ewood park with my kid's names and birth dates on them

Rovers offer replicas when you buy them and when our first was born we bought it....at a price of £59 if memory serves me right as they're twice the size of the AT ones

Now they are a waste of money....i have no idea where it is and didn't take them up on the offer when our second was born:D

Not sure exactly how it would work, but maybe it would be good for a group of people to be able to purchase a really good quality bench for the park and have a nice plaque put on it to show who provided it, and the sentiment. Useful and a nice touch for the people who provided it. I'd defo put some money towards something like that.

(I do remember that the park provided quite a few new benches a couple of years ago, so I wasn't having a pop at that).

Edit - If someone did arrange something like this, I'd be happy to put the first £20 to it to get it started. That's a promise, you can hold me to that.

I do, too, quite like the sentiment.

However Merlin Entertainment have over a billion pound turn over. They can buy their own benches.

:p

They can buy their own bricks too, but people will still buy them. I was simply trying to offer possibly a more useful use of funds directed into the park. I do also appreciate your sentiment though :)

This seems too close to a perfect metaphor for Merlin's business plan: Overcharge you and then walk all over you :p

I think it would've be a better, and longer lasting, idea if they used those bricks when they next build a brick building. That way you're metaphorically helping to hold the building up. Ipswich football club did this, as they realised they wouldn't exist without their fans. Who knows, maybe there's hope yet?

Oh yes, Liverpool Football Club offered this when they redeveloped the main stand the other year, far as I know they didn't end up going through with it. Unsurprisingly when you charge a ton of money for a tiny bit of ground you only get weirdos and p takers lol

They cost £40 (if my maths is correct) with the MAP discount.

I'm tempted, but do I really want to give any more money away to a company that don't seem to care about it guests.

Looking how many bricks will be needed to fill the entrance plaza, it could take me a couple of years to find my brick. Could purchase a brick with the name Wally on it, then we could have a game of where's Wally whilst waiting for the gates to open.

That's cool mate. Don't worry about the bricks any more. It's all about the Bench now. I've already pledged £20 towards a bench for a group of us (or the site - I'm making stuff up now). Pledge a few quid and if we get some more peeps interested maybe we could start a thread with the view to contacting the park with the general idea, and if successful think of a location :)

Oi, I've got my name on the King Power Stadium! :p

I quite like this brick idea though. I shalln't be getting one but it is a harmless way to give people a unique connection to the park and make a bit of cash at the same time. Everyone is a winner!

:)

Yeah, to be fair, it's a common thing nowadays.. My club West Brom did it a couple of years ago and it's a nice thing for people to be able to do if they have the funds and want something to remember their visits/loyalty by. Even more, some are in memory of their relatives who first took them to the ground. That's all good. Quite special actually.

But don't forget BENCH ;)

But why on earth do Alton need this cash?

I think it shows a pretty dire state they are in, and would suggest that the money from this should be going to the Merlin charity... a far better promotion.

All businesses need cash by selling products do they not?

:)

The merlin charity... where all proceeds go to giving free entry to sick children. Something which it would be no skin off Merlin’s nose to do for free themselves, but this way they make money out of it.

Sorry, it’s not a worthwhile and virtuous scheme at all, it’s profiteering from other people’s unfortunate circumstances

Here are some of the Q&A's on their website

Alton Towers Resort is a large theme park with a fantastic variety of rides and attractions suitable for all ages and therefore we recommend a full day visit.

Ironically, not all the rides are open at the start of the day :tearsofjoy:

https://support.altontowers.com/hc/...ou-recommend-to-spend-at-Alton-Towers-Resort-

If it rains continuously for more than an hour during your visit to Alton Towers Resort Theme Park, you can return on a like for like visit for free.

Pointless as you now get a years pass for the price of a day's entry :tearsofjoy:

https://support.altontowers.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000553232-Do-you-offer-a-Rainy-Day-Guarantee-

For the purposes of admissions an adult is 12 years and older at the Alton Towers Resort.

We do not accept entry into the park of children under 12 without an adult 18yrs or over.

How ironic :tearsofjoy:

To make the most of your visit on a busier day, arrive early, consider buying Fastrack tickets and our top tip is to leave the popular rides until last, this way you'll be going the opposite way to the crowds.

The staggard opening ride times will put a spanner in the works to that one :tearsofjoy:

Interestingly, The Smiler website page has been updated with some of the old imagery of the sharp style Inoculator, with prose such as:

'14 loops with a speed of 85 km/hr that will challenge your body and mind'.
'Will you belong to The Smiler?'

There is even a ring pointing out The Inoculator (which is shown below). Could we be seeing the original theme being restored gradually over time?

Hope so, Smiler is fantastic on full blast and needs more of this. The theme is nothing to do with the accident and is obviously in jest. Anybody who took offence at the time needs to face that it's just a bit of fun, and not have their complaints validated by neuturing the ride for everyone else.

Same with the full Oblivion clip with 'welcome to eternal darkness' (kind of bizarre that of all lines this was the one removed? :p )

Please don't bring back the dumb 'backstory explanation' boards at the X Sector entrance though, nobody cares! Just the full sound effects and video that got removed. Fingers crossed!
